Chapter 37 – My Legion Commander (Part 1)
by Salted FishIf the audience still harbored lingering doubts about the Ghost Server Legion after the first two matches, the exhilarating third match completely dispelled them. 2B Fighter Jet vs. Kill Gods If They Block Me—a Blood Warrior against a Berserker—put on a thrilling close-quarters brawl for the spectators. In the end, Fighter Jet narrowly lost, but the two players developed an irresistible mutual admiration during their fierce exchange. They exchanged contact info afterward, agreeing to meet again for a rematch on Fighter Jet’s Huaxia Summit account.
The only downside was that they swapped contact details before the match was even over—both still had half their HP left. They spontaneously took an intermission, chatting while regenerating health, going from small talk to enthusiastic conversation, from mutual admiration to outright flattery. The entire audience witnessed the birth of a bromance, forcing Brother Feifan to issue a reminder after the match concluded:
[System] Commentator: All contestants, please take the competition seriously and control your emotions.
Fighter Jet fought beautifully, but Kill Gods If They Block Me fought even more impressively, so the Ghost Server comrades refrained from their usual snark. Everyone could see that Meteor Blitz wasn’t in the same league as The Gods—they were aiming straight for the title of god-tier server’s top elite legion. Their slogan might be tacky, but behind it lay first-rate skill.
[Spectator] Born Like Summer Flowers: Holy shit, that was so damn satisfying to watch!
[Spectator] Storm Slash: Turns out the Ghost Server isn’t just about sneaky tactics.
[Spectator] Shifting Stars: But they’re still a ragtag group thrown together last-minute. They’re nowhere near as organized or coordinated as Meteor Blitz.
[Spectator] Storm Slash: Thrown together?
[Spectator] Shifting Stars: I made an alt to check them out. Their guild is brand new—just look at the guild info, they only formed right before the competition.
[Spectator] Born Like Summer Flowers: Ah, that explains the whole account hijacking fiasco.
[Spectator] Born Like Summer Flowers: But they’ve still done pretty damn well so far.
[Spectator] Dongfang Shuo: Don’t say that—I’m just getting hyped! Don’t let the next matches turn into a one-sided slaughter!
[Spectator] Dongfang Shuo: Go, Ghost Server! At least put up a decent fight!
[Contestant] Milk is Mom: Go fuck your mom.
Fang Zheng was genuinely pissed.
He was already frustrated after losing the first match, and just as he was starting to recover, he saw all these sarcastic comments. No way was he holding back.
[Spectator] Dongfang Shuo: What the hell? Who even are you?
[Spectator] Self-Supplied Rations: Oh, looks like the Ghost Server Legion Leader.
[Spectator] Dongfang Shuo: Haven’t seen him compete—probably just a figurehead.
[Contestant] Deadleaf: That name sounds familiar. Isn’t that a merchant alt? A professional power leveler?
Fang Zheng had already typed out a long rant, but at this point, he suddenly didn’t feel like sending it. Even seeing familiar names like Deadleaf didn’t spark his usual fighting spirit.
Because he suddenly realized—these sarcastic remarks were all objectively true. He had just wanted to have fun, so he dragged Birdy, Mad Lad, 2B, Blood Bull, and 438 along. There was no grand ambition to conquer Mirage, no heroic determination to crush armies. He’d won one preliminary match and gotten carried away, imagining himself riding triumphantly into battle, commanding an unstoppable force. But in reality… what was he, really? He was only the Legion Commander because no one else wanted the hassle. At the end of the day, this was just a team formed purely for fun. To put it bluntly, once the competition ended, they might disband.
The audience was buzzing in the chat, but YY was silent. The usual background noise of Birdy’s internet café only made the channel feel even quieter.
On screen, the next match had already begun: Blood Bulls Don’t Graze vs. Leaves Fall on Chang’an.
The two spawned close to each other and quickly engaged. Blood Bull fought aggressively, forcing the Blesscaller into a corner despite their attempts to keep distance. Then, with a swift slash, Blood Bull took them down before the audience could even react—the Blesscaller’s entire HP bar vanished in an instant.
One Cut Kill—a Berserker-exclusive skill, dealing physical damage with an 8% chance to instantly kill (excluding bosses).
Clearly, that 8% had just triggered.
Leaves Fall on Chang’an was fuming. Even after returning to the contestant lounge, they couldn’t let it go:
[Contestant] Leaves Fall on Chang’an: Fuck, Laozi barely had time to warm up the arena!
[Contestant] Leaves Fall on Chang’an: That was straight-up cheating!
[Contestant] Leaves Fall on Chang’an: You got the guts to rematch me?!
Blood Bulls Don’t Graze politely replied:
[Contestant] Blood Bulls Don’t Graze: Sorry, but our ragtag group is results-oriented. I have to answer to my Commander.
Before Fang Zheng could figure out whether Blood Bull was being sincere or sarcastic, 438 took the stage.
[System] Commentator: That last match was over in the blink of an eye! The Ghost Server has tied the score! Now, for the fifth match: Refined Into a Demon 438 vs. Kill All Who Block Me! Demon Refiner vs. Assassin—this is practically a repeat of Match 2!
[System] Commentator: No, the circumstances are completely different. The Assassin is already laying traps, while the Demon Refiner approaches… The Assassin activates Stealth! This won’t be a head-on fight but a battle of wits!
[System] Commentator: Will the Demon Refiner spot the traps?
[System] Commentator: Will they? Will they?
[System] Commentator: …Well, the Demon Refiner just stepped right into one.
On screen, 438 walked straight into the Assassin’s trap as if he was aiming for it. For a stealth-focused, ambush-reliant class like the Assassin, traps were essential—especially against ranged classes like Demon Refiners and Spirit Masters. Once immobilized, the Assassin could close in and finish them off in seconds.
[Spectator] Flower Not Flower: Talk about tit for tat—Meteor lost in seconds, now they’re about to win in seconds.
[Contestant] Summit of Mount Tai: Any decent ranged player would watch out for traps against an Assassin.
[Contestant] Nicknamed White Dragon Horse: [strokes chin] I feel like this legion defies all logic.
[Spectator] My Mind’s Made Up: Vice Guild Leader, this Demon Refiner… seems to be from our Huashan branch…
[Contestant] Nicknamed White Dragon Horse: Huh?
[Contestant] Nicknamed White Dragon Horse: Old Dog, get over here and debunk this!
[Spectator] Dog Strategist: As the HR director, I can confirm—he was part of our guild. Emphasis on was.
[Contestant] Nicknamed White Dragon Horse: Then why’s he in the Ghost Server now?
[Spectator] Dog Strategist: Apparently, he stayed behind when we transferred. The Huashan branch said they left him there for demon refining experiments.
[Contestant] Nicknamed White Dragon Horse: So he just defected?!
[Spectator] Dog Strategist: Deputy Commander, I’m HR, not his mom ╮(╯_╰)╭
[System] Commentator: While Five Peaks Pavilion is busy with family drama, Kill All Who Block Me has circled behind 438!
[System] Commentator: Backstab + Bloodseal Strike!
As the commentary scrolled, the screen erupted with effects. The Assassin’s Bloodseal Strike crit, and the combo took out two-thirds of the Demon Refiner’s HP in an instant!
[System] Commentator: The Demon Refiner’s pet has appeared! They must’ve started summoning the moment they fell into the trap!
[System] Commentator: But the Demon Refiner still can’t move. If the Assassin ignores the pet and goes for the kill, they won’t escape!
[System] Commentator: Huh? Why did the Assassin stop attacking?
[System] Commentator: The Assassin is floating in midair!!!
[System] Commentator: 438’s pet just suspended the Assassin!
[System] Commentator: What the hell kind of pet is this?!
[Spectator] Fading Lanterns: We’ve been wondering the same thing…
As if sensing the crowd’s confusion, 438 kindly typed an explanation despite being trapped:
[Arena] Refined Into a Demon 438: Charge, 502!
438’s battle cry seemed to glue the spectators’ thoughts into a tangled mess.
A veteran player hesitantly speculated:
[Spectator] Our Generation’s Desolation: I think… maybe… that’s Zhong Kui’s Sister?
Someone quickly looked it up:
[Spectator] Little Yang’s Flying Dagger: If you run into Zhong Kui in the Path of Infamy in the City of the Dead, he’ll use a Berserk Skill: “Summon My Sister!”
[Spectator] Fluttering Butterflies: Path of Infamy? Most teams wouldn’t choose that route, right?
[Spectator] Little Yang’s Flying Dagger: If over half the party has 999+ Infamy Points, you don’t get a choice =_=
[Contestant] Bastard Zeng: I thought only our Guild Leader would grind multiple accounts to max Infamy just to capture that monster…
[Contestant] Flag Raiser: Brother Zeng, that was our secret weapon. You just leaked it >_<
[Contestant] Hu Yifei 12138: How would you two like to die? ^_^
[Contestant] Flag Raiser: Boss, I’m innocent! TAT
[Contestant] Greatsword: Actually, if you look closely, Zhong Kui’s Sister is kinda hot…
[Contestant] Leaves Fall on Chang’an: Guild Leader, you’re focusing on the wrong thing.
[Contestant] Greatsword: We’re all men—what else should I focus on?
[Contestant] Leaves Fall on Chang’an: Like how Kill All Who Block Me is about to be floated to death by a pretty sister ╮(╯_╰)╭
Zhong Kui’s Sister’s Airborne skill lasted surprisingly long, and she could still attack while airborne. Meanwhile, 438 had already broken free and used Sprint to dash to safety, then directed 502 to pummel the poor Assassin. By the time the Assassin landed, only a third of their HP remained.
Even someone as battle-hardened as Mad Lad struggled against three pets—let alone Kill All Who Block Me, who’d already lost the advantage. The moment they finished off Zhong Kui’s Sister, the backup pet, 110, bonked them to death.
The carefree ghost enforcer circled the Assassin’s corpse a few times, reluctant to leave, before finally vanishing with its master.
Unlike Blood Bull’s lucky one-hit KO, 438’s victory was pure pet superiority. A quick search would reveal that Zhong Kui’s Sister’s Airborne duration wasn’t normally this long—meaning 438 had enhanced her through Demon Refining. But the exact method or recipe? That wasn’t something Baidu could answer.
Kill All Who Block Me had no complaints.
[System] Commentator: That was… an unexpected victory!
[System] Commentator: The Ghost Server Legion always delivers surprises.
[Spectator] I Love Pineapple: And nightmares.
[Spectator] Flower Not Flower: And suffering.
[Spectator] Born in 1994: Forever stan, no explanation needed >_<
YY was still silent. Fang Zheng had stopped trying to guess what everyone was thinking—he was just happy for 438’s win.
Until—
[Contestant] Big H: Demon Refiner, come join Meteor Blitz. Mirage’s a ghost town—what future is there?
[Contestant] Big H: Join us, and we’ll supply all the materials and mobs you need. Refine however you want!
Fuck, the Legion Commander was right here! How dare they poach in front of him?!
(Fang Zheng conveniently forgot that Birdy-kun had poached 438 the same way =_=)
[Contestant] Refined Into a Demon 438: I want to run dungeons.
[Contestant] Big H: Huh?
[Contestant] Refined Into a Demon 438: Being a Demon Refiner doesn’t mean I only refine. I want to run dungeons with a team.
[Contestant] Refined Into a Demon 438: So I won’t switch legions again. Our legion is great, and our Commander is great too! Our Commander is ga—
[Contestant] Refined Into a Demon 438: Even with the perverts, the scoundrels, the gays, and the queen, not one person has ever asked me for refining secrets!
(That’s because you’re the only Demon Refiner in the legion…)
[Contestant] Refined Into a Demon 438: I’m really sorry!
[Contestant] Big H: You don’t have to be so polite =_=
[Contestant] Nicknamed White Dragon Horse: “Not one person has asked for refining secrets”? Drink, is our legion catching strays?
[Contestant] Drink Till You Drop: Do you have to show up and reinforce that impression?
Author’s Note:
Occasionally, even the Milk Mom Commander’s shady little heart gets bruised~~=_=
