    Chapter 3 Goodnight, Sweetheart

The blackmailer who was not in good health, walked into a residential complex in Wax Apple Lane. Lu Kongyun followed him silently. The man walked into a doorway, then went up to the fourth floor, opened an iron security door from the last century, and then pushed open the door inside.

He turned back to look at Lu Kongyun and extended his hand to invite him in: “Come in, my house.”

Lu Kongyun looked inside. It was small and simple, with the decoration at the level of the last century, probably not changed since the man’s grandfather. There were peeling wooden tables and chairs, peeling simple sofas, dim lights, and not many decorations.

    Lu Kongyun: “Are you alone?”

The blackmailer seemed a little surprised by his question: “What else?”

After thinking for a moment, he turned around and took a step closer to Lu Kongyun: “Your question is quite ambiguous. Don’t you think it is?”

“…” Lu Kongyun walked around him and walked into the room.

The man closed the door behind him, then went to pour himself a glass of water and drank it down. Then he asked him: “Want some water?”

Lu Kongyun would not drink water in his house. He walked over, dusted the sofa, and sat down.

“Who are you, and how did you get this? Do you have the original? Are there other copies? Why don’t you just blackmail my dad directly instead of me? What do you want?”

The blackmailer was stunned by his barrage of questions, then looked at him and smiled again.

“I can sense how much you don’t want to stay here any longer. But don’t worry, it’s still early.” He turned on the TV, then went to the TV cabinet to get a disc, opened the box, and put it in the DVD player.

Someone was actually using a DVD player now.

    He closed the curtains again.

Lu Kongyun: “What are you doing?”

“Watching a movie.” The blackmailer sat beside him calmly. “Watch the movie with me, and then we’ll talk business.”

    The movie began.

The camera showed a simple sofa. Just as simple as the one Lu Kongyun was sitting on. Standard rental apartment equipment. The lighting in the movie was poor.

A male Omega walked over and sat down in the center of the screen. The actor looked unfamiliar.

He began to speak to the camera, nodding and bowing, looking like he was suffering from kidney deficiency. Foreign language. No subtitles. It looked like a documentary. After a while, another male Alpha sat next to the male actor, and the two began to talk.

“I don’t understand this foreign language.” Lu Kongyun said, “I don’t understand it.”

“Shh. Look. This movie can be understood by everyone in the world.” The man’s arm was on the back of the sofa behind him, as if he was hugging him.

Lu Kongyun glanced at his arm, but said nothing. He frowned and looked at the screen again, observing this so-called movie that everyone in the world can understand.

After a while, the new Alpha put his hand on the Omega’s leg.

His hand slowly moved up, and he touched the other’s ear with his lips.

The two strangers who seemed very polite just now suddenly became too affectionate.

    Lu Kongyun: “…”

He turned his neck and looked down at the pervert: “I don’t have time to play with you. Tell me the password to cancel the video upload quickly. Otherwise, I will make you regret it.”

“Don’t be impatient.” The pervert sat lower, and seemed to enjoy being looked down at by Lu Kongyun. The way he raised his eyes and looked up was like a cunning cat: “I just asked you to watch a movie with me, and you couldn’t even do it, and you still want something so important?”

    “…”

Lu Kongyun looked at him indifferently. After a moment, he sneered softly: “You feel it already?”

The cunning cat’s eyes flickered, and the outer shell of confidence and arrogance disappeared for a moment. Then his expression returned to normal, and he reached out to press the low-quality inhibitor patch on the back of his neck, which had been lifted up and looked like it was no longer firmly attached.

Lu Kongyun: “Your pheromones smell like some rotten fruit.”

The man’s fingertips twitched as he pressed the inhibitor patch, then he stood up and turned to go back to the inner room. The sound of a drawer being opened could be heard from the dim bedroom.

A moment later, he came out and poured himself another glass of water. He bent down, and Lu Kongyun saw that he had a new patch on the back of his neck, a deep red one, the strongest inhibitor type.

As an expert in the relevant field, Lu Kongyun decided to warn him.

“This patch is inherently harmful to the body. The strength of the inhibition is directly proportional to the side effects. Use with caution. Although I’m an Alpha, I’m not affected by your pheromones, so there’s no need for you to use it right now. As for your scent, I’m not too concerned. You can take it off and let’s get down to business.”

“…Who cares if you’re affected?” the man sipped from his glass of water, gesturing towards the two people in the movie, their conversation gradually deepening. “I use it because the actors’ acting skills have influenced me. Why should I do it for you when I can just do it for myself?”

He cursed, and Lu Kongyun was stunned.

“Wrisbands and neck rings. Cheap ones don’t work well. They’re noticeable but always malfunction. It’s really troublesome when they break down at the critical moment.” The man actually explained. “The ones that don’t break, are good, and lightweight, and they all cost tens of thousands. A box of patches is only a few dollars. What’s good about it, wouldn’t I know? Tell me.”

Lu Kongyun thought for a moment and said, “I can give you a high-end, lightweight wristband.”

The man looked at him, put down his glass of water, and walked over to him. The image on the TV was obscured, casting eerie shadows on the man’s silhouette.

    Lu Kongyun looked up.

“Do you think I’m doing this just for a few tens of thousands of dollars, or do you think this video is only worth a wristband?”

As if hearing something amusing, the man began to laugh, laughing at Lu Kongyun’s absurdity.

His knee slowly pushed against the bend of Lu Kongyun’s legs, which were now close together.

Lu Kongyun immediately spread his knees apart, avoiding contact.

The blackmailer’s knee continued to advance, encroaching on his territory until it brushed against the front opening of his pants, forcing Lu Kongyun to sit up straighter, backing away, pressing his lower back against the sofa backrest.

    “I want you to obey.”

The blackmailer lowered himself, slowly kneeling in the space created by Lu Kongyun’s legs. His hands also held onto the sofa on either side of his head.

“If you obey me, I’ll give you what you want.”

The powerful inhibitor patch completely blocked the man’s pheromones, so Lu Kongyun could smell his pure scent: shampoo, with a slight hint of soap still present. He must have just showered.

Looking closely, the moisture on the side of his neck and lips exposed by his collar also confirmed this. But he had blown his hair dry, hiding the fact that he had taken a shower.

Lu Kongyun turned his gaze to his eyes and said, “You’d better make direct and effective requests. I’ll get impatient if you keep beating around the bush like this.”

The blackmailer sat back on the sofa.

He took out his mobile phone, clicked on an interface, looked at it himself, and turned it to show Lu Kongyun.

It was a timer interface. In connection with what the blackmailer had just said to him, this should be the timer that “automatically uploads to websites around the world every eight hours.” And now it shows that there are 3 minutes and 12 seconds left before it reaches zero.

“It’s almost time.” said the blackmailer.

Lu Kongyun now understood why this man had been nagging him. He was hoping for the negotiating advantage this sense of crisis from the countdown would bring. The man checking the time might indicate he was about to issue instructions and make demands. So he waited.

But another minute passed. Time was still running out.

    He had to ask, “So?”

After another pause, the blackmailer said, “Kiss me.”

    Lu Kongyun: “…”

He turned back to the TV. The movie was at its most intense.

He said to the blackmailer, “If you really release this video, my dad will make sure you never see the sun again. Even if we fight to the death, the net will break. Why bother?”

The blackmailer, also watching the TV, said, “What a coincidence! I don’t care about tomorrow’s sun.”

“Half a minute left,” the blackmailer said.

    “…”

Lu Kongyun’s face darkened. But he had to admit he didn’t have time to think. He leaned in, trying to find the moist mouth between the man’s pale cheeks with his lips. But the man tilted his face away.

    “…Kiss, kiss on the cheek.”

So Lu Kongyun gently touched his cheek and left immediately.

The movie was nearing its end, and the Omega inside let out the most joyful cry.

The blackmailer did not comment on his perfunctory behavior, but immediately picked up his phone, operated it with his back to him, and then showed it to him. The timer number returned to eight hours.

Then the blackmailer put down his phone, reached out and grabbed the crumpled cigarette box on the coffee table, and took out a cigarette. The cigarette fell to the ground, and he picked it up again. He took the lighter again, lit it five times, and lit it. He took a puff, and the cigarette was half short.

Lu Kongyun looked at the cigarette and felt that the blackmailer was in poor health, which was probably related to his wild smoking style.

“I’ll answer a question as your reward.” The blackmailer, half a cigarette between his lips, looked at him sideways. “No one else has a backup of this video. That’s because the low-level thugs who recorded it didn’t even know your father and didn’t understand its value.”

Noticing Lu Kongyun’s grim expression, the blackmailer curled his lips. “And I completely destroyed the original before anyone else could see it. So, this video is indeed unique to me. But even if you crack my countdown code, you won’t be able to find all my backups. That’s all for today. I’ll see how you perform next time for the other questions.”

    …next time.

The blackmailer exhaled a puff of smoke provocatively. “Doctor Lu, obey. That’s your only option.”

Lu Kongyun’s first act upon leaving Wax Apple Alley was to have someone look up the man’s information. Quickly, using his home address, he obtained his basic information. His name was Yu Xiaowen, and he was a police officer.

No wonder he was able to obtain this video and destroy the original, it made perfect sense.

On the one hand, he was clearly breaking the law to blackmail him. On the other hand, he destroyed the original video of the military official, preventing an immediate scandal from spreading.

But why did he choose me?

Saying he likes him is absolutely impossible. Lu Kongyun had received countless confessions in his life, but nothing like this.

He rudely blew smoke in someone’s face while saying, “Being obedient is your only option.”

Of course, Lu Kongyun also rudely said his pheromones smelled like rotten fruit.

As a top-grade Alpha, he was usually more careful with his language when interacting with people of other genders and ranks.

But he didn’t with the blackmailer.

Lu Kongyun felt that this person wasn’t truly seeking any tangible benefits, and even disdained the opportunity to ask for exorbitant amounts. His focus seemed to be on making things difficult for Lu Kongyun.

This person knew him. He thought it was likely that he had some past grudge against him and was targeting him.

But he couldn’t remember who this person was.

Lying in bed that night, he received another message from Yu Xiaowen, the blackmailer who knowingly broke the law.

艹: Your appeal has been effectively responded to. Now, you are being given a direct and effective instruction

艹 : Say “Goodnight, sweetheart” to me every night before bed. When you receive the command, please reply “Received. Sweetheart.”

Lu Kongyun closed his eyes for two seconds and finally did not throw the phone away. Then he replied: What grudge do you have against me?

He sent a screenshot with a countdown of 0 minutes and 31 seconds.

    …

    Lu Kongyun: Good night. Sweetheart.
