    Chapter 33 The Second Order

On this ordinary Wednesday morning, the district-school joint sports meet was being held at Manjing No. 6 Middle School. The classrooms were all empty, and the playground was filled with thunderous cheers.

The bright morning light shone on the track in front from the side, and the strong cheers filled his ears. After Yu Xiaowen grabbed the baton, he immediately ran forward with all his strength.

    “Come on! Come on!”

Yu Xiaowen felt his blood flowing quickly, making his body light and powerful. He was now in second place. His eyes were fixed on the back of the first place, and he believed that he would be able to surpass the other and make up for the distance he had lost. This is the meaning of the last baton.

Confidence made his breathing steady and his body movements orderly. He was getting closer and closer to the goal, and the finish line appeared in front of him.

He leaned forward and exerted his physical strength to the limit without hesitation.

He closed the distance, was on par with his opponent, and then surpassed him.

“Go, No. 6 Middle School! No. 6 Middle School! Ahhhh, Xiaowen, Yu Xiaowen! Go! Go! Go! Go!”

As he accelerated and passed, the screams of his schoolmates’ cheers drowned out all other sounds. He heard the crescendo of cheers reaching a deafening climax, then, the moment he touched the line, it exploded like a tidal wave crashing against rock, crashing and surging against each other.

When the race was over, he was immediately surrounded. Yu Xiaowen, catching his breath, held the baton over his shoulder, smiled and raised his head, accepting the praise, strolling along with ease.

He quickly returned the baton, grabbed his towel, and, pretending to go to the restroom, left the circle. He then turned halfway, leaving the track and field, and hurried toward the sports field on the other side of the school. There, the tennis league finals were being held.

He could hear the clamor of the crowd from a distance, and he quickened his pace even further.

He walked into the packed auditorium amidst the roar of cheers that followed a tense silence, trying to find a spot to stand. He craned his neck and saw the sign on the scoreboard, “Manjing No. 6 Middle School: Experimental High School,” flipped over and read 30:40.

Yu Xiaowen knew that Lu Kongyun’s opponent was a student with a sports specialty recruited from the neighboring Experimental High School. Two years older than them, he specialized in tennis and had already qualified for university based on his tennis prowess. Even a year difference in age made a huge difference for teenagers of that age. His opponent clearly had the physique of an adult Alpha, making Lu Kongyun, a teenager who hadn’t yet successfully differentiated, seem much weaker in aura.

Lu Kongyun wore a tracksuit emblazoned with the school’s insignia and pristine white shoes. He wore a tennis cap and lowered his head, making it difficult to discern his expression. He still wore his bite-blocker and wristband. He tossed the tennis ball to the ground. It bounced obediently, and he loosened his grip, tossed it down again, repeating this several times.

He was about to serve. Then cheers erupted from the audience.

Yu Xiaowen looked at the agonizingly catching-up victory and the score, then at the young man restrained by the bite-blocker and wristband. Emotions surged inexplicably. He shouted, “Lu Kongyun! Go!”

His voice, breathless and frantic, fresh from the track and field, stood out above the cheers of the crowd.

The young man on the field stopped pitching. Then he raised his head, which had been lowered, and turned toward him. The sun finally shone on his face. As his gaze calmly turned toward the audience, the corners of his mouth, hidden behind the bite-blocker, twitched upwards for a rare moment, perhaps an illusion.

The breath had only traveled halfway before it abruptly stopped in Yu Xiaowen’s trachea, the jogging champion. He was deprived of oxygen. His heart raced, and his face flushed. His mind went blank, and he instinctively tried to wave back, but his hand only reached chest height before the young man turned back and wiped the sweat from his chin with the back of his hand.

Then he stepped back, looked up, and stared at a point in the air.

He tossed the ball high, simultaneously raising his right hand, gripping the racket, in preparation.

As the ball’s height aligned with his viewpoint, the lines of his Achilles tendon instantly became distinct.

He jumped, arched his back, and swung his racket. His movements through the air were so swift that blinking would have incomplete the shot. Yu Xiaowen’s gaze remained fixed on him.

Only after the match was over did Yu Xiaowen feel the deep crescents of red indented by his nails on his damp palm.

    How wonderful.

If only I could see him more often.

If only I could see him forever.

    …

Lu Kongyun studied the new, awkward order for a moment, then looked up, meeting the blackmailer’s gaze. He paused for a moment, then thought of asking back.

    “What are you looking at?”

“…” The blackmailer’s expression faded after a moment, one hand resting on his waist. “I see you don’t recognize the Chinese character for ‘S’, you’ve been staring at it for so long. What does it say?”

Lu Kongyun turned his phone screen to show him and repeated the message in his own words: “The two of you must release pheromones to each other for fifteen minutes. No suppressant products allowed.” There was a moment of silence.

    The blackmailer scratched his face.

He didn’t give any more instructions, so Lu Kongyun waved his phone screen at him.

The blackmailer pursed his lips for a moment before speaking, his voice unsatisfied. “You’re a top Alpha, and I’m an inferior Omega. Is this a punishment for you? It’s clearly a punishment for me.” Lu Kongyun’s mind suddenly flashed back to the time when his rut flared up, tied to his cabinet in his own bathroom.

He calmed down. Lu Kongyun’s rut period was over.

The blackmailer immediately raised a finger and quipped, “Why don’t we just repeat the last order? It’ll save us some trouble.”

Lu Kongyun: “It’ll save us some trouble.”

The blackmailer leaned back against the tree.

Lu Kongyun glanced at his fingers gripping the bark, his lips, once pale but now vibrant, and the flower juice stain on his chest.

He looked down at his pockets, which were even more stained.

After half a minute, he said calmly, “If you can’t afford the gamble, then forfeit.”

“How could that be?” The blackmailer looked unusually embarrassed. After a while, his expression relaxed, and his eyes showed a calm determination: “It’s not possible here. Let’s go somewhere else. Openly releasing pheromones in public is considered a disturbance of public order. If someone finds out, they will definitely call the police. You are still in military uniform.”

Lu Kongyun and the blackmailer looked at each other.

The blackmailer looked at the tree next to him.

After a moment of silence and thought, Lu Kongyun said: “I drove here.”

The two left the small park. First, go back to the police station along the original route, and then walk to the temporary parking lot on the other side of the street. Now that it’s the end of the day, many parking spaces are empty, but Lu Kongyun came early, so the car is parked very far away, in a corner on the edge.

The blackmailer followed Lu Kongyun in. He asked casually: “When did you come? Why is the parking space so far away?”

    Lu Kongyun did not speak.

As they got closer, the blackmailer looked at the jeep with military plates with even greater surprise: “You’re driving a military vehicle? Can cadets openly drive a military vehicle out of the camp during training? Your management is a bit off.”

    Lu Kongyun: “Yeah.”

The blackmailer opened the back door, sniffed, and said, “It smells like blood.”

Lu Kongyun got in from the other side and closed the door: “Yeah.”

So the blackmailer got in, too.

    It was very quiet.

Leaning against the car door, the blackmailer said, “Don’t forget to count the time.”

“Yeah.” Lu Kongyun glanced at him. He relaxed in the back seat, legs spread, and glanced at his watch. “So, shall we start?”

The blackmailer held his nose for a moment. “Sure.”

    “…”

Lu Kongyun glanced at his wrist again. “Take off the wristband first.” The blackmailer shifted his stance. He removed the wristband and held it in his hand.

Lu Kongyun extended his index finger, snatched the wristband from his palm, tossed it to the front seat, and then met his gaze.

After a moment’s stare, the blackmailer gave him a playful smile.

“So, the rut eruption is over, and Dr. Lu, the apathetic doctor, wants to see this inferior omega go in heat under his pheromones?”

Lu Kongyun said, “I didn’t set up that unhealthy dice app on your phone, Officer. I didn’t initiate the bet.”

He looked down at his watch.

    “7:53,” he said.

Then, he began to release his pheromones.

After just over ten seconds, he could smell the blackmailer’s pheromones. But they weren’t released actively; they were simply a passive reaction, stimulated by the Alpha pheromones.

The blackmailer seemed to sense that his own heat had come too quickly, so he swallowed and glanced at Lu Kongyun from the corner of his eye.

He observed Lu Kongyun, then laughed and said, “Maybe it’s because you don’t drink. Actually, some of my colleagues and friends say I smell pretty good.”

After a while, Lu Kongyun continued the conversation: “What did they say?”

The blackmailer was very immodest: “Sometimes, after working overtime, everyone is so exhausted that the office smells a bit messy, especially when a few high-ranking Alphas have a particularly unfriendly smell. With me here, no matter what kind of Omega it is, it’s always a lot fresher. Working overtime with me is easier, so the less high-ranking Alphas really like to work overtime with me. I’m still very popular.”

    Lu Kongyun stared at him.

Blackmailer: “Fuck. What’s with that expression? Don’t you believe it? People are really…”

Lu Kongyun interrupted him: “Let’s talk about something else.”

“…” The blackmailer bit his lip. He raised his hand to wipe his eyes that began to sparkle due to physiological reactions, then turned and looked out the window.

Lu Kongyun stood up and walked forward, opened the storage box in front of the seat, took out a pack of tissues, and took out half a bottle of water: “No one has drunk this bottle, I just used some to wash my hands.”

He put the water on the blackmailer’s legs, took out a tissue, and handed it to him.

The blackmailer sighed, turned around, and took the toilet paper. He rubbed his face, and under the cover of this action, he secretly pulled the hem of his clothes to cover himself.

“How did it take?” asked the blackmailer.

Lu Kongyun raised his hand to check his watch: “Only two minutes.”

The blackmailer was surprised to hear this: “Impossible?!”

Lu Kongyun raised his hand to show him the watch: “Look for yourself, 7:55.”

The blackmailer kicked his foot: “You make me feel like a wild animal being observed by humans, openly seeking pleasure in the wild. Is it interesting? Haha, I know what you think. It’s boring. You just want to get back at me.”

“…I said you can’t blame me.” Lu Kongyun did not retract his foot. “This is your bet.”

The blackmailer took a breath and said indignantly: “Lu Kongyun, you’ve become bad. You were not like this when you were young. I don’t like you anymore.”

Lu Kongyun paused: “Did we know each other then?”

The blackmailer clenched the tissue and wiped his neck, which was sweating from the heat. His hand left his neck and he weakly supported the backrest of the front seat to prevent his body from sliding down. He was a little out of breath, so he answered under his breath: “It’s not that we knew each other, it’s just one-sided. Who in No. 6 Middle School doesn’t know Lu Kongyun.”

Lu Kongyun looked at his wandering and clenched fingers: “But I don’t have much impression of you.”

The blackmailer: “Of course. Because I’m just an ordinary classmate, one of the many meaningless passers-by around you.”

After hearing this, Lu Kongyun’s eyes turned to his face again, looked for a while, and said: “Sometimes I don’t pay much attention. I will remember it if I notice it.”

The blackmailer didn’t respond to this, but just looked at the ceiling with his bright eyes and chuckled meaningfully. Then he changed the subject, “Did you ever beat that talented student from Experimental High School later on?”

This veered off a bit, so Lu Kongyun asked, “Who?”

The blackmailer said, “During your differentiation period, don’t you remember? The finals… against that incredibly tall guy. He had quite a beard back then.”

Lu Kongyun seemed to regain his memory: “Oh, that guy. We met again in the college tournament later, and I won.”

The blackmailer nodded, as expected. “Haha, you’re right.”

Someone was familiar with him, yet he had no memory of them. Lu Kongyun was no stranger to this feeling. Because of his status, he never paid much attention to others, but others would passively notice him because of his status as a member of the Lu family. Perhaps it wasn’t their intention, so he didn’t need to care.

Besides, he was still in the differentiation period, and his sense of smell was blurry. As a top Alpha, his memories of middle school were a continuous struggle against his animal nature.

The blackmailer’s gaze had drifted far away. He subconsciously shifted his body, angling the water bottle on his lap to hold it in place.

The half-empty bottle of water between the blackmailer’s legs shimmered faintly in the gloom.

… Lu Kongyun touched his wrist. It was bare.

He rarely wore the wristband before, so he wasn’t in the habit of touching it. He watched the blackmailer, who was becoming increasingly dazed. It didn’t matter. This blackmailer, who couldn’t afford to play, had had enough. The life he had been dragged into would soon return to shore, and never be seen again.

Lu Kongyun suddenly gritted his teeth, “Yu Xiaowen.” The blackmailer was startled, sitting up and looking at him, his eyes widening. “Huh?”

    “…”

Lu Kongyun stared at him in silence.

“Fuck. I thought you figured out the right answer.” The blackmailer looked relieved, his tone elusive. He suddenly banged his head against the backrest of the seat, his chest heaving, tears streaming down his face. He tugged at his collar to breathe. Then he simply lifted the collar to wipe his cheek, revealing what was underneath.

    “And how long?”

“Ten minutes.” Lu Kongyun looked away, hooked out the paper ball that had become soaked in the blackmailer’s hand, threw it casually to the passenger seat, and took out a new clean tissue, slowly inserting it into his palm.

The blackmailer suddenly couldn’t stop shaking all over.

Lu Kongyun approached the blackmailer and put his fingers on the back of his neck, which was very hot. The other party trembled even more because of the coldness of his fingertips, staring at him. Lu Kongyun half opened his lips, revealing a little bit of the white tip of his canine teeth, which was the place where the pheromones in the Alpha gland could be directly injected into the Omega’s body.

He finally sat back. Then he opened the car window and stuck his head out.

“Do you want another kiss?” the blackmailer behind me murmured
