However, Li Lingfeng effortlessly picked up the bowl in front of him.

    Jian Chengxi: ?

Li Lingfeng’s hands were steady and strong, and not even the soup in the bowl was disturbed. The man’s voice was deep and powerful, “I don’t need it. You stay away, don’t get burned.”

    Jian Chengxi was dumbfounded.

It wasn’t until Li Lingfeng carried the two bowls over to let the children eat that he came back.

Jian Chengxi quickly moved closer and, feeling a bit heartbroken, he grabbed his hand and said, “Why did you just use your hands? Does it hurt?”

Li Lingfeng’s face remained expressionless, and he spoke, “The physical constitution of beastmen is different from regular humans. This temperature won’t cause injury.”

In fact, the soil and climate on the Zerg’s black hole are much hotter.

They’ve long gotten used to it.

Jian Chengxi spoke up, “How different could it be? It’s all just flesh, right? It still hurts if it’s too hot.”

His slightly cold little hand held his large hand.

Under the warm yellow light, the fair little face drew a little closer, and gently blew. The breath that came out was soft and ticklish.

Jian Chengxi looked up at him, with a hint of a smile in his eyes, “Isn’t this much better? You go ahead, I’ll go get the chopsticks and spoons. I made the noodle soup with eggs today, you definitely have to try it.”

Li Lingfeng was momentarily distracted for no apparent reason.

Since he was young, after his mental power was found to be different from ordinary people, he was kicked out of his home.

A platform that high—he was pushed down by his mother. The steps were very high at the time, but they weren’t lethal for beastmen. He thought it wouldn’t hurt.

Yet when he looked up and saw his mother’s disgusted and distant gaze, he heard her say, “How did I give birth to such a monster?”

“If I had known, I would have strangled him when he was born.”

“A bastard like him wouldn’t feel pain!”

    “Just consider him dead.”

“Our family can’t have a child like this!”

On the cold ground, the sharp pain seemed to spread from his heart throughout his entire body.

That was the first time he felt pain.

So he could feel pain too.

Jian Chengxi’s voice came from beside him, interrupting his thoughts. His voice sounded a little worried, “General?”

Li Lingfeng snapped back to his senses.

Jian Chengxi said with some concern, “What’s wrong? Did your hand really get burned? Where does it hurt?”

Li Lingfeng looked at his face, and stared for a moment.

Jian Chengxi blinked and looked at him in confusion. From his angle, he could only see the man’s slightly stern profile, but couldn’t make out too many expressions.

    After a while—

Li Lingfeng said softly, “It doesn’t hurt.”

    He doesn’t feel pain anymore.

Jian Chengxi seemed to breathe a sigh of relief. He smiled and said, “You scared me to death.”

The sound of a child came from the nearby dining table.

Li Suisui’s voice was crisp and clear, “Daddy, Suisui is hungry.”

Jian Chengxi responded, “Coming, coming. Daddy will get you the chopsticks. You and your brother should blow on the noodles first, or they’ll be too hot to eat!”

His body was busy bustling around in the kitchen.

After grabbing the chopsticks, Jian Chengxi glanced at Li Lingfeng and said, “I’ll go over to the dining table to serve the noodles to the kids. General, please bring the last bowl of noodles and come over quickly!”

Li Lingfeng stood in place, watching his departing figure, and stared for a long time.

The dining table not far away was steaming.

His two children and his wife were all waiting for him.

He now truly had his own home.

    Evening—

After taking care of the two children and feeding them, Li Lingfeng would usually handle the task of cleaning the dishes.

At this time, Jian Chengxi would take the two children to wash up and put them to sleep.

When he came back, the television in the living room was playing the news. The person on the news was indeed Byrne. He was dressed in a suit and leather shoes. While facing the camera, he flashed a refined and elegant smile, as if he was saying something.

Jian Chengxi sat down beside him and said, “What is he doing?”

Li Lingfeng sat on the sofa. He glanced at him and said, “He’s running for the new term of the board chairman.”

Jian Chengxi asked in confusion, “Isn’t he already the chairman?”

“The chairman is elected every five years. He was elected five years ago, and this year, he needs to be re-elected.” Li Lingfeng spoke slowly, “This year, there have been quite a few outstanding candidates. His pressure is quite big.”

Jian Chengxi asked, “Will he get elected?”

He asked this question very naturally.

It was as if he was certain Li Lingfeng would know.

    Sure enough—

Li Lingfeng closed the magazine in his hands and spoke softly, “With the support of the Fuchs family, he will get elected.”

Jian Chengxi suddenly understood why there would be a marriage alliance.

Looking at Byrne smiling at the camera, his mood inexplicably became very complicated.

Alice’s mother’s sorrowful face lingered in his mind. That woman was truly pitiable, she became a victim in Byrne’s path to power.

Li Lingfeng turned off the TV and stood up, saying, “Go to sleep.”

    Jian Chengxi nodded, “Okay.”

Back in the bedroom, Li Lingfeng was already lying down on the bed. Jian Chengxi lay on the previously comfortable bed, but couldn’t sleep no matter what. The pulse readings from the day seemed problematic no matter how he thought about it. She must have been poisoned.

    Who poisoned her?

    Why poison her?

Jian Chengxi couldn’t keep things to himself, and when he thought about the difficulty, he couldn’t help but sigh.

    Finally—

He tossed and turned for an hour and still did not fall asleep.

Li Lingfeng’s voice came from beside him, “Did Byrne’s election success keep you awake at night?”

Jian Chengxi was startled. He glanced sideways. “General, you’re still awake?”

Li Lingfeng opened the door and turned to look at him, saying softly, “If you could sigh less twice, maybe I’d fall asleep.”

In fact, he usually couldn’t sleep at all.

The torment of his mental power kept him awake at night, only holding Jian Chengxi could bring him a moment of peace.

Yet today, his little wife seemed to have something on his mind.

Jian Chengxi felt a little embarrassed, and he mumbled, “Sorry.”

Li Lingfeng sat up, his cold expression showing no extra emotion. He calmly looked at him. “Tell me, what’s the matter?”

Jian Chengxi couldn’t keep things to himself. He blurted out his suspicion that the beastman lady had been poisoned, along with his guess that Byrne wanted to silence someone, and a series of other things.

“I suspect her poisoning is closely tied to him,” Jian Chengxi quickly said, “Mirage’s reaction was also strange, he definitely knows something.”

Li Lingfeng’s face was expressionless. “What does this have to do with you?”

    Jian Chengxi choked up.

He bit his lip a bit, feeling aggrieved, but couldn’t find a word to retort.

Perhaps it was because he was a doctor before, saving lives and treating the wounded was every doctor’s duty. He couldn’t stand seeing any patient get hurt in front of him while doing nothing.

He couldn’t blame Li Lingfeng for being cold-blooded.

He didn’t even have a position, yet blamed Byrne for being heartless.

There are too many sufferings in this world.

If he helped the lady, it might bring unnecessary enemies to his own general.

Li Lingfeng was already surrounded by enemies on all sides, so he shouldn’t cause him more trouble.

Jian Chengxi pressed his lips together. His fair little face trembled slightly as his eyelashes fluttered, and he finally said, “It doesn’t matter, let’s sleep. I don’t want to think about it anymore.”

    Little did he know—

He had just snuggled into the blanket when he heard a voice coming from beside him, “If you want to help her, I’ll have Mirage help you.”

Jian Chengxi popped his head out. “Huh?”

“Don’t you want to save her?” Li Lingfeng’s expression was calm. “If you want to do it, just go ahead.”

Jian Chengxi was a bit shocked and happy. “Really?”

    Li Lingfeng nodded. “Mhm.”

Jian Chengxi couldn’t control his happiness, and jumped into Li Lingfeng’s arms, hugging him. “Thank you General. The general is truly a great person!”

Li Lingfeng glanced down at him, meeting his bright and joy-filled eyes.

Jian Chengxi met the man’s dark, calm gaze, and that helped him calm down a bit, realizing that he had gotten a bit carried away. He awkwardly tried to pull back, but for some reason, it felt like his waist was trapped and he couldn’t pull away.

There was no way and he could only stay in the embrace.

    Yet soon—

Jian Chengxi asked again, “Why are you willing to help Mrs. Byrne?”

In fact, Li Lingfeng should be a good person too.

He just isn’t very good at expressing himself usually. Facing the pitiful Mrs. Byrne, he must have some compassion too.

He just said, how could everyone in his family be a villain except for himself?

Li Lingfeng spoke softly, “Byrne is a very arrogant person.”

    Jian Chengxi replied, “Hmm?”

“His wife supported him in starting from scratch, and she must have many of his secrets. That’s why Byrne is in a hurry to eliminate any potential threats.” Li Lingfeng’s voice was slow and deliberate, and especially clear in the night, “The hospital’s defenses are so weak, he’s just certain that his wife won’t be able to retaliate.”

    “Since that’s the case.”

Li Lingfeng glanced at Jian Chengxi sideways. His dark eyes lowered, with an invisible hostility in them, the corner of his mouth slightly curling up. “What harm is there in adding fuel to his election?”

    Jian Chengxi: “…”

    Stop smiling.

    I’m scared.

    The next day.

It was the children’s day off.

Jian Chengxi brought the children to the hospital. He first had Mirage check Li Chen’s leg, and only then did he bring up the purpose of this visit. Mirage seemed to have already been informed, and this time, he was especially cooperative.

The matter of deceiving the fourth-floor guards, he had already mastered it effortlessly.

    The group entered.

Jian Chengxi saw the lady again. Her condition looked worse than yesterday.

Jian Chengxi walked over and said, “Madam, are you alright?”

Alice crawled out of the cart, crying, and ran towards her mother.

The lady patted her daughter’s head and looked at Jian Chengxi, saying, “Thank you for still being willing to see me, you can call me Feiyun.”

Jian Chengxi walked over and said, “Ms. Feiyun, I suspect you’ve been poisoned—your condition is getting worse. I’ve talked to Dr. Mirage, and he said he’s willing to treat you.”

Feiyun looked at Mirage with some surprise.

Mirage smiled and said, “Good day, madam. I’m Mirage.”

Feiyun said in surprise, “But… How could this be? How could I be poisoned?”

Jian Chengxi took a deep breath and said, “We suspect it was your husband who poisoned you.”

    Feiyun immediately said, “Impossible!”

Alice, who was standing beside, heard Jian Chengxi’s words. Her eyes widened and she said, “Dad wouldn’t do something like that!”

Jian Chengxi glanced at the mother and daughter.

He finally understood who Alice’s innocence was inherited from.

Jian Chengxi and Mirage exchanged a glance.

Mirage said to Jian Chengxi, “You should show her the video.”

As soon as Li Lingfeng made his move, he knew whether it was there or not. Almost overnight, while Jian Chengxi was still asleep in his dream, Li Lingfeng had already obtained all the information and evidence.

Jian Chengxi pulled up the video from the information terminal and played it.

Soon, two people appeared in the video. It was Byrne and Fuchs’ daughter.

The beautiful angel race said somewhat impatiently, “My father said that I am his eldest daughter, and I cannot be a concubine. Isn’t your wife from the Underground City leaving yet?”

Byrne gently took her hand and said, “I’ve already arranged for her to go to the hospital, she won’t appear.”

Fuchs’ eldest daughter was still unhappy. “So what? With her here, am I not still a concubine? The empire’s laws don’t allow the legitimate wife to become a concubine!”

    Feiyun sat up in disbelief.

Her eyes widened as she watched the scene in the video. Her husband, holding another woman’s hand, softly said, “How could I let a lowborn from the u Underground City be my legitimate wife. I’m already the chairman of the empire, if it weren’t for the fact that we have a daughter, I would have divorced her. Rest assured, I will handle this matter properly.”

    The video abruptly stopped here.

    The video abruptly stopped here.

Feiyun’s tears also flowed down, she seemed unable to bear such sadness.  A severe headache struck her, the woman helplessly lowered her head in pain.

    Alice anxiously called out, “Mom!”

Jian Chengxi immediately grabbed her shoulder. “Madam!”

His approach and comfort seemed to relieve the pain of the beastman’s mental breakdown to some extent.

Feiyun’s scarlet eyes slowly regained calm. She wiped away her tears, looked at Jian Chengxi, and said, “Mr. Jian, you said I’ve been poisoned. How much longer do I have to live?”

Jian Chengxi hesitated for a moment. “I don’t know either, but I can try my best with Mirage to help you. He’s the best doctor in the entire empire, he will surely have a way!”

This seemed to truly comfort the woman.

Feiyun calmed down. She looked so fragile, but now, she seemed so strong. She said, “Actually, Byrne has never left me, not because of Alice.”

    Everyone was somewhat surprised.

Feiyun glanced at her daughter, who was also crying, and softly said, “Many years ago, I saved him in the Underground City. At that time, he was seriously injured, and I almost lost my life trying to save him. He was very grateful to me after he woke up, not only did he promise to marry me, but he also stood before the statue of the God with me, using a sacred stone to swear. If he ever wrongs me, let him lose the light of the angels and never be able to recover.”

Mirage said in surprise, “He actually dared to swear such an oath?”

Jian Chengxi asked curiously, “Is this oath very serious?”

Mirage nodded and said, “You’re not an angel, so you don’t know. For angels, swearing in front of a statue with the sacred stone is the most serious oath. That sacred stone will be split in two, with each person keeping one part. If they eventually break the oath, they will suffer backlash with consequences ranging from death to the loss of ordinary angelic powers.”

Feiyun nodded and said, “That’s right. All these years, I’ve been keeping one of the stones.”

Jian Chengxi immediately said, “His wedding with Fuchs’ daughter is scheduled for next week.”

Feiyun seemed to have heard some joke. She wiped away the tear at the corner of her eye, and said, “Since I saved his life, I will make him pay the price.”

Mirage asked, “But without his half of the stone, the curse won’t take effect.”

    The atmosphere immediately turned awkward.

In the midst of the silence—

Li Suisui, who had also come over, spoke up, “Alice can sense it.”

Everyone immediately turned their gaze toward her.

The blue-haired little girl, Alice, seemed completely devastated.

For a child who has always been innocent, kind, and worshiped their father, this kind of thing is truly too hard to accept.

Jian Chengxi asked his daughter, “How did Alice sense it?”

Li Sui Sui walked up next to the protagonist and she said, “Last time Alice was looking for her mom, she used her sensing ability. She said she can sense the presence of objects through the fluctuations of energy.”

In other words, as long as Alice senses Feiyun’s piece of the stone.

She can sense the location of the other piece of the stone!

Mirage said with some astonishment, “She’s actually one of the rare psychic perception angels. You’re an amazing little girl, your future is limitless.”

Jian Chengxi thought to himself, Of course. She’s the future protagonist, after all.

Alice took a step back. Tears fell from her pale and delicate face as she said, “But, there are so many guards at home and Dad’s things are hidden very deeply. Even if I find the place, I can’t defeat the guards.”

    That is indeed a problem.

    Jian Chengxi hadn’t spoken yet.

Li Chen looked at her coldly. “So stupid.”

Li Suisui also sighed. The little girl’s ponytail swished, and she gave her a glance, then took out several bottles of potions from her bag and handed them to her. “Here, throw it on whoever you meet.”

    Then—

Li Chen also took out a small mech combat rod from his bag and handed it to her. He said, “This is the close combat rod I designed for the hamster, zap whoever you meet.”

    Alice: “…”

    Is this really usable?

Li Suisui patted her shoulder and said, “Don’t worry, Suisui has already tested these potions. One splash, and it’s guaranteed.”

Alice looked up at Li Suisui with red-rimmed eyes and tears falling down. She hugged Suisui and cried out, “Suisui, you’re amazing. Alice wants to be a bad guy like you in the future!”

The room was exceptionally warm and cozy.

    Jian Chengxi: “…”

    Who understands?

He originally wanted his child to be friends with the protagonist.

Now the protagonist has become a subordinate.

And it’s not just any subordinate, he’s become the future villain’s subordinate. Can this storyline really be aired?
