Half a month later, Shen Mo met with Ji Mingxuan’s lawyer.

Back at the hospital, when Ji Mingxuan said those words to him, Shen Mo had already expected this day would come. Whether what Ji Mingxuan said was true or not, the fact that he said it meant there was no going forward for the two of them.

What Shen Mo hadn’t expected was that Ji Mingxuan wouldn’t even handle the breakup in person. He simply sent his lawyer to talk to him.

Should he say Ji Mingxuan was too rational, or just too cold?

Or maybe, to him, their entire relationship had only ever been a contract. And now that the contract was void, it naturally needed to be settled in the most appropriate way.

The lawyer’s surname was Chen. He was a young man with good looks and a polished demeanor, the kind of person who looked every bit the professional. He shook Shen Mo’s hand and introduced himself.

After a brief exchange of pleasantries, Shen Mo got straight to the point. “Where is Mr. Ji?”

“He went abroad,” Lawyer Chen replied as he pulled some documents from his briefcase. “Once Miss Ji’s condition stabilized, she was transferred overseas for further treatment.”

Shen Mo hadn’t seen Ji An’an again since that day. Now, hearing some news about her brought him a small sense of relief.

Lawyer Chen laid out the documents in front of Shen Mo. “Mr. Shen, according to the agreement you signed with Mr. Ji back then, these are the assets you’re entitled to.”

Shen Mo glanced over them. They included stocks and properties. Though he didn’t know much about their value, he could tell they were worth a lot.

Ji Mingxuan truly was a businessman. Even his affections came with a price tag.

Shen Mo flipped through the documents indifferently and said, “Mr. Ji is very generous.”

Lawyer Chen smiled and replied, “He always is.”

His manner was so practiced, Shen Mo figured this probably wasn’t the first time he’d handled a breakup for Ji Mingxuan. Shen Mo didn’t dwell on it. He picked up a pen and asked, “Do I just sign?”

“Yes. Also, Mr. Ji said that if you have any other requests, feel free to bring them up. However…” Lawyer Chen looked around and added, “This villa has been Miss Ji’s childhood home…”

Shen Mo immediately understood. “I get it. I’ll pack up and move out in a few days.”

He was so tactful and considerate that Lawyer Chen looked visibly relieved. He gestured to the documents on the table and said, “Mr. Ji was generous. Some of the properties are very well-designed. Once the paperwork is completed, you can move into any of them at your convenience.”

Shen Mo nodded and lowered his head to sign.

For someone who had just been dumped, he felt he was handling it all remarkably calmly.

Maybe it was because he and Ji Mingxuan had never truly begun.

There had only been a vague ambiguity between them, a few small sparks that hadn’t even had time to ignite before turning to ashes.

Maybe this was for the best.

Shen Mo was halfway through signing when he heard Lawyer Chen say, “By the way, Mr. Ji said that everything he gave you before is still yours. However, there’s one thing he hopes to take back.”

Shen Mo looked up and asked, “What is it?”

    The car?

    The ring?

He had no objection to either. But what Lawyer Chen said next was unexpected.

“It’s the house at Jinxiu Villa.”

Shen Mo’s hand trembled. The pen streaked across the paper in a long, jagged line, but he didn’t even notice. He stared wide-eyed and asked, “What did you say? What house?”

“You weren’t aware?” Lawyer Chen looked more surprised than him. He flipped through the file, then confirmed, “About three years ago, Mr. Ji transferred a property in Jinxiu Villa to your name.”
