Chapter 32 – Investigation
by Salted FishAlthough Sunshine Andrology Hospital was a private hospital, its location was quite favorable, just a street away from several high-end clubs in the city center. It occupied a seven-story building, and just from the exterior decor, it exuded an air of sophistication and grandeur, resembling a modern business hotel more than a hospital.
Once inside, this impression was further reinforced. The nurses were dressed in tight-fitting pink uniforms with skirts barely reaching their thighs, and their appearances far surpassed the standard of typical top-tier hospitals. Standing there, regardless of their professional skills, their “hardware” alone was sufficient to comfort patients—especially male patients. Wei Yang subtly observed the details of the hospital’s interior and couldn’t help but marvel inwardly. It seemed that the Pi Sect had undergone a complete transformation over the years, far surpassing the Jin Sect’s charlatans who posed as “mystical masters.” Indeed, it was one thing to deal with scammers, but quite another to deal with educated scammers. Compared to the shady stalls of mysticism, this “professional” hospital, operating under the guise of Western medicine, was undoubtedly more appealing.
“Has Mr. Wei ever visited our hospital before?” Director Li had some urgent matters to attend to and left earlier, leaving Jian Ning to guide the two Feng Shui masters. Without his mentor present, Senior Manager Jian’s tone was noticeably less polite.
Wei Yang smiled faintly, “I’m afraid I haven’t had the opportunity yet. I didn’t expect Mr. Jian to be working at Sunshine Hospital. You don’t strike me as a doctor.”
“Far from it, I’m just in administration.” In truth, Jian Ning did graduate from a reputable medical school, but his medical skills were far from exceptional. He had merely relied on a bit of cleverness to become a disciple of General Manager Li Ke. This Li Ke was no small figure either. He was the protégé and son-in-law of Jiang Nianhua, the founder of the Jiao Yang Group, and was likely to inherit the massive medical conglomerate within the next decade, taking the top seat. Jian Ning’s goal was to emulate his mentor and replicate this success story. With this ambition, he spared no effort in currying favor with his mentor’s wife and appeasing the tempermental daughter of the Li family. After enduring numerous trials, he had achieved considerable success. With such a bright future ahead, Manager Jian naturally carried an air of superiority in front of outsiders. Being outsmarted by a young charlatan had left him deeply resentful.
Glancing at Wei Yang’s calm expression, he continued, “What surprises me even more is that Mr. Wei is actually from Jieshui Studio. At such a young age, you’ve already earned widespread praise. You must have some skills. I’m just curious what exactly those skills are.”
The comment was clearly laced with sarcasm, but Wei Yang remained unfazed, chuckling lightly, “That would depend on what exactly is going on in your company.”
Seeing that Wei Yang was unmoved, Jian Ning snorted coldly and stopped wasting words, leading the two toward the staff lounge on the fifth floor.
Despite being seven stories high, the headquarters of Sunshine Andrology Hospital was arranged quite compactly. In addition to the standard hospital facilities like outpatient clinics, examination centers, operating rooms, and extremely expensive VIP wards, there were also some reception rooms whose purposes seemed rather dubious. Half of the fifth floor was dedicated to these reception rooms, while the other half served as the rest area for the high-end nursing staff.
Logically, reception rooms of this caliber should exude elegance and warmth, making guests feel at home. However, for some reason, the floor now felt anything but warm and inviting. It was eerily empty, with no guests in sight and only a few on-duty nurses in the lounge. Jian Ning, clearly anticipating this situation, walked into the office and beckoned to the nurse on duty, “Xiao Song, come here.”
If the nurses downstairs could be rated at 70 points, those upstairs started at an 85. Seeing Manager Jian, the pretty nurse hurried over. Upon noticing the two men behind him, she was visibly startled and hesitantly asked, “Manager Jian, are these two… guests?”
Even in an andrology hospital, or any hospital for that matter, nurses shouldn’t look at patients this way. Even Zhang Xiuqi’s model-like good looks seemed to have no effect on her, her anxiety clearly showing. Jian Ning snorted, “They’re not guests, just here to take a look. Are you the only one here? Where’s the nurse on duty today?”
“Sister Liu had something to attend to, but she’ll be back soon!” Xiao Song quickly explained, stealing another glance at Wei Yang and the other man, clearly confused about what “taking a look” entailed.
While the nurse was sneaking glances at Wei Yang, Wei Yang was also discreetly observing Zhang Xiuqi’s expression. However, since entering the hospital building, Zhang Xiuqi had shown no reaction, as if his earlier comment about “carrying evil” had been forgotten. There was no sign of anything unusual. Yet Wei Yang didn’t dare let his guard down. He still remembered the incident at Chaoyang Community clearly. If Zhang Xiuqi really detected something sinister, he wouldn’t give any warning—he’d just disappear in the blink of an eye. The feeling of being abandoned in a haunted house was far more terrifying than facing a malevolent spirit head-on. This time, Wei Yang didn’t want to be left behind again, especially with a Pi Sect elite present. He needed to keep his story straight.
Seeing that Zhang Xiuqi showed no reaction, Wei Yang cleared his throat and said to Jian Ning, “Manager Jian, since there’s someone here, could we have this young lady explain the situation first?”
Frowning slightly, Jian Ning didn’t object and nodded to the nurse, “Xiao Song, hasn’t your advanced department been having some issues recently? How has it been the past couple of days? Tell them.”
Xiao Song was clearly startled, her eyes widening as she glanced over the two men. It seemed she had figured something out and stammered, “W-Well, it’s just been a bit strange… For the past two months, the fifth floor has felt… off. Both the patients staying here and the nurses on duty have noticed that once night falls, they start feeling drowsy. If they fall asleep, they have nightmares all night—really… really bad ones. They’re disgusting and eerie, enough to make you sick.”
The young woman’s face was a mix of embarrassment and indignation, clearly struggling to articulate her words. Wei Yang quickly grasped the situation. These were likely either erotic dreams or nightmares—either way, they weren’t pleasant. Especially in an andrology hospital, where most patients were “dysfunctional,” and the nursing staff had seen too many distressing cases, it was a miracle if they weren’t already desensitized, let alone having such “eerie” fantasies.
After a moment of thought, Wei Yang followed up with another question, “Aside from the nightmares, are there any other symptoms?”
“Lethargy, dizziness—it feels like you’ve donated too much blood,” Xiao Song replied, then added after some thought, “And we’re the lucky ones. Some of the head nurses have it even worse…”
“Even worse how?” A voice came from behind, gentle and soft, though the speaker hadn’t yet entered the room.
“Sister Liu!” Xiao Song called out cautiously, immediately falling silent.
Wei Yang didn’t immediately look at the newcomer. Instead, he subtly grabbed Zhang Xiuqi’s arm. He could tell that his companion was starting to react—his brows furrowed slightly, and his lips moved as if he wanted to say something. Whatever it was, Wei Yang didn’t want him to blurt it out here. With quick reflexes, he stopped Zhang Xiuqi from speaking and only then turned his gaze toward Head Nurse Liu.
If Xiao Song was a delicate beauty, then Head Nurse Liu was a voluptuous bombshell. The well-tailored nurse uniform on her didn’t just look like a uniform—it was pure seduction. Yet this bombshell now pursed her lips tightly, her phoenix eyes fixed on Xiao Song. The dark circles under her eyes were almost breaking through her makeup, starkly visible on her skin.
“Manager Jian, I recall the director recently said not to bring anyone to the fifth floor. Why are there guests here?” After silencing Xiao Song with a glare, Head Nurse Liu turned her gaze to Jian Ning. Seeing her, Jian Ning’s arrogance diminished somewhat, and he smiled amiably, “Sister Liu, you’ve misunderstood. These are esteemed guests personally invited by the director to take a look at the situation on the fifth floor.”
Seemingly more informed than Xiao Song, Head Nurse Liu raised an eyebrow, “So young? You…”
At this point, Wei Yang had already released Zhang Xiuqi’s wrist. He looked Head Nurse Liu up and down, then glanced at Manager Jian, smiling lightly, “We’re just here to understand the situation. Xiao Song didn’t finish earlier. Could you tell us what exactly happened to the head nurses?”
Caught off guard by the young man’s directness, Head Nurse Liu was momentarily stunned. She glanced at Jian Ning, who gave an almost imperceptible nod, before she pursed her lips and said, “It’s nothing much. I fainted one night, and Li Fang said she saw a ghost. As for Xue Ning Shuang… well…”
At the mention of these names, Head Nurse Liu’s face twisted slightly, clearly reluctant to say more. Wei Yang nodded understandingly and asked another question, “Do you have an employee directory? I’d like to get a better grasp of the situation.”
What did an employee directory have to do with the issues on the fifth floor? However, Head Nurse Liu, having worked in the service industry for years, was no fool. Without asking further, she pulled a staff roster from her desk drawer and handed it to Wei Yang, “It’s all here.”
Wei Yang didn’t hesitate and began flipping through it casually. He skimmed over most of the entries but paid close attention to the photos of Head Nurse Li and Head Nurse Xue. Both were quite attractive, each with their own charms, not inferior to Head Nurse Liu. Smiling inwardly, Wei Yang looked up and asked another question, “Excuse me, what’s above the fifth floor?”
Not expecting Wei Yang to shift the topic so abruptly, Jian Ning frowned slightly, “That’s the management offices. Why?”
Wei Yang smiled, “Nothing, I just think the real issue might not be on the fifth floor but on another level. Could you take us up there, Manager Jian?”
