Chapter 142 – Extra 3 – Master Sun’s Marvelous Adventure 3
by Salted FishThe situation wasn’t particularly complicated. Shuirui Group had secured a tourism project near Wushan County, aiming to capitalize on the “big tourism” concept. Coincidentally, the mountainous area connected to the Little Three Gorges and bordered Shennongjia. They had put in considerable effort to obtain the development rights, planning to turn the relatively untouched forest into an eco-tourism zone.
The initial survey went smoothly, but when it came to actually building the roads, problems arose. While passing through a forested area, equipment kept malfunctioning, with all electronic devices being affected to varying degrees. Some suspected magnetic interference, and upon further exploration, they discovered a large black stone deep in the mountains. Upon receiving the news, Director Ling Miao himself rushed to the scene. However, due to the lack of accessible roads, heavy machinery couldn’t be brought in, so the matter was kept quiet, and only a small sample of the stone was taken back for analysis.
But just after removing that small piece, issues arose at the construction site the same day. All personnel on-site experienced some form of mental disturbance—some saw ghosts, others went mad, and a few loggers simply collapsed. Strangely, only those who had handled the black stone remained unaffected. However, after leaving the mountain area, the symptoms disappeared. This made Director Ling uneasy, suspecting that the stone might be the problem. Yet, he couldn’t bring himself to give it up. Eventually, he came up with the idea of finding someone who could identify the stone’s origin and solve the current dilemma.
Sun Chengfeng clicked his tongue, “That Ling guy is quite cunning. He didn’t even disclose the full story to Tiande, probably afraid that he’d stumbled upon some treasure and someone else might snatch it away. But as soon as I saw through it, he quickly spilled everything.”
After hearing this, Wei Yang and Zhang Xiuqi exchanged glances and immediately guessed the gist of it. The location of the Yang Bi must be the same sinkhole where Sun Yunhe had performed his ritual years ago. In an attempt to summon the remnants of his friend’s soul, he nearly broke the seal left by the Daoist sects. Unfortunately, he failed in the end and vanished from the world.
However, looking back now, although there was no record on the Spiritual Aperture Diagram, Sun Yunhe must have set up something near the sinkhole—similar to the grand formation he had arranged at Mount Xian. It was likely a defense mechanism to prevent the sinkhole from being discovered again or to restore the seal he had previously broken. In any case, a new defensive formation had appeared in the mountain forest, with the Yang Bi stone at its core. Thus, when Shuirui Group tampered with the Yang Bi, they triggered the formation. Those who had handled the stone were unaffected due to its unique properties, leading to the bizarre situation.
This was truly unexpected but couldn’t be ignored. Wei Yang immediately asked, “So, what did you tell Director Ling? Did you agree to go?”
“Well…” The old charlatan awkwardly smiled, “Director Ling offered a pretty high price, and it didn’t seem too dangerous. Ah Yang, what do you think…”
This old man. Wei Yang almost laughed in exasperation, but agreeing to it wasn’t a bad idea. After all, the Yang Bi was suppressing a sinister sinkhole. If some clueless outsiders ended up damaging it, who knows what kind of chaos it could cause. After some thought, Wei Yang turned to Zhang Xiuqi, “Brother Qi, it looks like we’ll have to make a trip. We can’t just leave it alone.”
Zhang Xiuqi, as usual, maintained his icy demeanor, but now with an added seriousness. He nodded, “We should go as soon as possible.”
Seeing the two of them in sync, Sun Chengfeng suddenly felt his legs go weak. What was going on? Why did they both look so serious? Was it really that dangerous?
Master Sun, ever the one to value his life, immediately thought of backing out. He forced a laugh, “Ah Yang, did I cause trouble again? If it’s too dangerous, we don’t have to take the job. Haha, safety first, right…”
Having known the old man for so long, Wei Yang could easily guess what he was thinking. He chuckled and reassured him, “Uncle Sun, the situation over there is a bit complicated, but it’s certain that the Yang Bi stone is suppressing something extremely sinister. If Shuirui Group ends up moving that stone, things could spiral out of control. All we need to do is dissuade them and ensure the stone remains where it is.”
Wei Yang made it sound simple, but Sun Chengfeng wasn’t foolish. Billions of dollars in investment—how could they just give up on it? Convincing Ling Miao wouldn’t be easy, right?
Seeing the old charlatan hesitate, Wei Yang grinned, “Uncle Sun, this is indeed a tricky case, but we don’t have to take the direct approach. Instead, we’ll turn the tricky into the straightforward. That’s where you come in. This is a big fish, and it’s not too dangerous. Don’t you want a piece of the action? Besides, Brother Qi and I will be there. What’s there to fear?”
Looking at Wei Yang’s relaxed smile and recalling the numbers on Director Ling’s check, Sun Chengfeng gritted his teeth and slapped his thigh, “Let’s do it! As long as it’s straightforward, I’m not afraid! But, uh, Ah Yang, Little Celestial Master Zhang isn’t part of our Jieshui Studio, wouldn’t it be too much trouble for him…”
Though his words sounded considerate, Sun Chengfeng’s eyes were practically glowing with greed, like a wolf eyeing its prey. Understanding what the old man was really asking, Wei Yang chuckled, “I forgot to mention, Uncle Sun. From now on, Brother Qi will also help with some of our cases. But we might not always be around, as we’ll be traveling occasionally. So don’t be surprised if we’re not always here.”
“No problem! No problem!” Sun Chengfeng was overjoyed. Was this a part-time arrangement? That was great! After all, the feng shui business was feast or famine. Now that Jieshui Studio had gained some reputation, with these two powerhouses on board and the connection to Shuirui Group, business would surely boom. As for the straightforward cases, he was an old hand and could handle them well. It’s not about lacking the work but lacking the skills. As long as a feng shui company had a true master, they’d never have to worry about making a living.
“Then, Uncle Sun, what about the original plan for shares?” Wei Yang raised an eyebrow, hinting at something.
Sun Chengfeng’s liver ached, but he was decisive enough to reply, “Of course, we’ll proceed with that! Haha, Jieshui Studio’s success is all thanks to you, Ah Yang. How about we split the profits 40-30-30? Of course, any cases you take on your own won’t count toward the studio’s ledger. Ahem, Ah Yang, you know I have a wife and kids to support. It’s not easy.”
This was indeed a generous split. It meant that for any case taken by Jieshui Studio, even if Sun Chengfeng handled it alone, they’d still get a combined 60% of the profits. Conversely, for any cases handled solely by Wei Yang and Zhang Xiuqi, Sun Chengfeng wouldn’t take a cut. Even for a part-time arrangement, this was more than profitable. The place was comfortable, and the Sun family was easy to get along with, so it was definitely a brand worth developing.
Wei Yang immediately smiled, “No problem. Let’s draft the agreement later.”
With this assurance, the weight in Sun Chengfeng’s heart finally dropped, and he grinned from ear to ear. With both sides on the same page, it was time to deal with Shuirui Group’s case. Sun Chengfeng quickly brought over all the materials provided by the other party for them to review, personally serving tea and water, his enthusiasm palpable.
After looking at the medical reports of the injured provided by Ling Miao, Zhang Xiuqi nodded, “It’s a Mao Mountain technique, but it’s not fatal. It should be possible to break it. However, once broken, the Yang Bi will lose its protection.”
Wei Yang stroked his chin, “It’s the 21st century. There’s more than just Daoist methods to solve problems. I’ll handle this. With Shuirui’s deep pockets, we can take a different approach.”
With that, he chuckled and leaned in to whisper into Zhang Xiuqi’s ear. Sun Chengfeng, standing nearby, didn’t try to eavesdrop but instead watched the two of them intently. It had only been a few months since they last met—when had they become so close? Look at how they were sitting, practically squeezed into one sofa seat, whispering so closely. And that phone call this morning… Suddenly, a lightbulb went off in Sun Chengfeng’s head, and his eyes widened as he glanced between the two. “Oh my god,” he thought, “is it… that?”
After whispering for a while, Wei Yang got up to make a phone call. As soon as he hung up, he saw the old charlatan sidle up to him, his expression awkward, and whispered, “Hehe, Ah Yang, you know I’m not some old-fashioned guy. If there’s something going on, you can just tell me. You and our Little Celestial Master, are you… this?”
As he spoke, he made a suggestive gesture with his thumbs, as if saying, “Don’t hide it, I get it.” Wei Yang hadn’t planned to keep it a secret in the first place. He raised an eyebrow and smiled, “We just hadn’t found the right opportunity. Uncle Sun, you’re not going to hold it against us, are you?”
“Of course not! What’s there to hold against you?” Sun Chengfeng immediately grinned, lowering his voice even further, “Why didn’t I think of this earlier? Learning from him is one thing, but now you’re family! Don’t let our Little Celestial Master feel like an outsider. But you’ll have to be careful with his uncle—he’s not an ordinary man. We’ll have to take a roundabout approach and keep things under wraps for now. If you get caught, it’ll be like the proverbial stick breaking the pair of mandarin ducks…”
The old man sure had a lot of concerns. Wei Yang couldn’t help but laugh, “Don’t worry, Master Zeng already knows. We’ve got his approval.”
Sun Chengfeng was shocked, his jaw nearly dropping to the floor. But he recovered quickly, his expression shifting to one of earnestness, “Then you two must live well together! Keep him close! Men need to settle down, you know. Take my Xiaofeng, for example—she’s a real expert at keeping me in line. Why don’t you learn a few tricks from her later?”
What the hell is this? Wei Yang’s lips twitched, “Uncle Sun, don’t worry about it. We’re doing just fine.”
His voice was a bit too loud this time, and Zhang Xiuqi, sitting on the opposite sofa, looked over. Wei Yang smiled back at him and walked over. But Sun Chengfeng wasn’t done yet. He shamelessly sidled up to Zhang Xiuqi, his face breaking into an “in-law’s” kind of warm smile, “Xiuqi, my Ah Yang is smart, hardworking, and incredibly down-to-earth. You mustn’t let him down. Oh, and if you two decide to have a wedding abroad, don’t forget to invite me! I’ll definitely give you a big red envelope!”
This guy even knows about foreign weddings? Wei Yang didn’t know what to say. But Zhang Xiuqi nodded at Sun Chengfeng, “Okay.”
His expression was unusually serious, though it was unclear whether he was responding to the “not letting him down” part or the “wedding” part. Wei Yang suddenly found Sun Chengfeng less annoying and sat down next to Zhang Xiuqi with a smile, casually placing his hand on Zhang Xiuqi’s thigh, “Uncle Sun, have a seat. We’ve come up with a rough plan and need to discuss it with you in detail.”
His demeanor was perfectly natural, but Sun Chengfeng couldn’t help but feel a pang of jealousy. Couldn’t you at least keep the thigh-touching for private? But envy aside, when it came to money, he was all ears and sat down with utmost focus.
