Chapter 30 – Warm Baby Crybaby
by Salted FishChu Yin heard Wei Lai say he was almost home and suddenly felt a bit hungry. He couldn’t focus on writing songs anymore, so he hugged Big Orange while sitting on the sofa, warming his feet by the heater. When he heard the sound of keys turning in the lock, his back straightened abruptly. He slipped on his slippers and tiptoed stealthily to the door, quick and light-footed.
When Wei Lai opened the door, Chu Yin pretended he had just happened to be passing by and said, “You’re back. You could’ve come back later—I’m not hungry.”
Big Orange poked out its little head: “Meow~”
Wei Lai changed his shoes: “Quick, hand Orunju over to warm my hands. I’m freezing to death.”
Chu Yin placed Big Orange on the shoe cabinet and scolded him in distress, “Big Orange hates the cold! How could you freeze her?!”
Wei Lai: “…”
Wei Lai was about to say that cats have fur anyway when suddenly, his vision darkened. The tall, lanky Chu Yin leaned in, grabbed Wei Lai’s hands, and pressed them against his own face.
His hands, just warmed by the heater, were dry and toasty, while the icy fingers now cupped the plump, smooth cheeks of the hottest idol, Chu Yin.
With most of his handsome face obscured by Wei Lai’s palms, Chu Yin revealed only a pair of sparkling eyes and whispered, “Don’t bother Big Orange. Bother me instead.”
Wei Lai rubbed Chu Yin’s face and thought: Raise a cat for a thousand days for a day of warmth.
But even as he joked to himself, his heart inexplicably started racing.
Over the years, it wasn’t like no one had pursued him—mostly bottoms, a few tops. They’d throw money at him, take him stargazing, discuss poetry and philosophy, but Wei Lai remained unmoved. He’d lie there indifferently, only interested in their dicks, and once satisfied, he’d say goodbye.
Wei Lai always thought that when he met his true love, the moment would be extraordinary.
It should be like thunder striking fire, the east wind meeting the morning dew, his man appearing amid a shower of colorful clouds and pink bubbles, seizing his heart in the most romantic setting imaginable.
But the moment Chu Yin reached out, Wei Lai suddenly had an indescribable vision in his mind.
Pressing his face against Chu Yin’s abs and inhaling deeply, like he would with a kitten, until Chu Yin mewled.
The thought startled Wei Lai. How deprived must I be? He’s just warming your hands, and you’re already imagining how many kids you’ll adopt together?
But Chu Yin remained oblivious, still holding Wei Lai’s hands. He glanced down and saw only shopping bags—no grocery bags.
Chu Yin: “…Where’s my fish?”
Wei Lai teased him: “Couldn’t find any. I took a detour to buy clothes instead~”
“Oh.” Chu Yin lowered his head in disappointment but understood that Wei Lai didn’t owe him anything. Fish was a luxury, not an obligation. “Then let’s order takeout. It’s not like I’m hungry anyway.”
As soon as he finished speaking, his stomach growled loudly.
Chu Yin: “…”
Wei Lai burst into laughter: “OHOHOHOHOHOHOHO!”
Flustered and embarrassed, Chu Yin twisted his face away, refusing to let Wei Lai touch him, and roared, “What’s so funny?! No more warming for you!”
Wei Lai cupped Chu Yin’s face to placate him: “I bought it, I bought it! Yun Yun has it. The fish smelled too strong, so I let him carry it.”
Chu Yin, still simmering: “Where is he?!”
“Parking the car.”
As soon as he said this, light footsteps approached from afar. Yan Yunshui, weighed down by bags, sprinted up the stairs with vigorous strides. The first thing he saw was Chu Yin holding Wei Lai’s hands, sticky and inseparable. If this wasn’t some kind of affair, then his eyes were useless.
Yan Yunshui: “…Which one of you is the top? Please, give us shippers a clear answer.”
Wei Lai and Chu Yin immediately pulled apart, speaking in unison: “There’s nothing between us!”
Yan Yunshui silently closed the door, knowing anything he said would just mean more dog food shoved down his throat. He wrapped the soft orange cat around his neck with an ‘I-get-it’ expression. “Alright, alright, switches then. You’re switches, happy?”
Wei Lai: “…”
Chu Yin: “…whimper.”
