    Chapter Index

Wei Lai lay sprawled on the hotel bed, snoring loudly, completely oblivious to the messages Chu Yin had sent him.

To some extent, Wei Lai and Chu Yin were polar opposites in temperament.

Chu Yin disliked getting close to people. On a daily basis, he ignored outsiders and looked down on all two-legged creatures besides himself. Yet once he truly fell for someone, he became clingy to an extreme—not in a sweet, affectionate way, but with a near-maddening possessiveness. It was an all-or-nothing, you-and-no-one-else kind of love. His affection was like the endless shedding of a big cat’s fur, sticking to a person in every possible crevice, impossible to ignore.

Wei Lai, however, was different. His job revolved around dealing with people. No matter how much he was cursing inside, he had to keep a smile plastered on his face. Sometimes, after too much socializing and talking, his brain would buzz with exhaustion, and all he wanted was to be alone.

Being alone was a luxury few adults could afford. Turning off his phone, sitting in a room with just his thoughts—no need to assign tasks to subordinates, no need to clean up after his artists, no need to network with industry bigwigs, and no need to worry about his cold expression scaring Chu Yin.

This had nothing to do with love. He just wanted to be by himself for a while. But based on years of experience, Wei Lai knew Chu Yin would overthink it, so he didn’t tell him.

Most importantly, Chu Yin was on a diet recently. If the usual Chu Yin was as fragile as crystal glass, dieting Chu Yin was even worse—like a soap bubble. Wei Lai didn’t dare risk upsetting him further.

While Wei Lai was dead to the world in his hotel room, Chu Yin lurked behind the door, spying.

A woman with a little boy rang the doorbell a few times. When no one answered, she patted the boy’s head, comforted him, and carried him away.

Chu Yin drove to Wei Lai’s studio, searched around, and learned that Wei Lai hadn’t shown up at all that day.

Lost, Chu Yin sat behind the steering wheel and dialed Wei Lai’s number—only to hang up immediately after pressing call.

    Where was Wei Lai?

Why did Wei Lai lie to him?

Was it related to that girl he met at the coffee shop?

Each question buzzed in his mind like a swarm of bees, leaving him unsettled.

Chu Yin rubbed his face for a full minute, his thoughts in complete disarray, before finally tracking Wei Lai’s car.

The map showed that Wei Lai’s car was parked in the underground garage of a themed hotel specializing in couples’ suites.

Wei Lai often took Chu Yin there to play out cliché, tropey roleplays—like the domineering CEO and the debt-ridden little celebrity, or the cold campus heartthrob and the predatory professor who withheld thesis approvals unless the student pleased him with his body. There was even the decadent young emperor and his beautiful general. The scenarios were endless. Over time, the front desk staff had developed knowing smiles whenever they saw the two of them.

Sure enough, before Chu Yin could even approach the front desk, the receptionist grinned at him again.

    Chu Yin: “…”

The receptionist said, “Mr. Wei is in Room 6188.”

    Chu Yin’s face darkened further.

He and Wei Lai had used Room 6188 before. It was decorated like an ancient brothel, themed around a wealthy merchant who splurged on the cold, untouchable courtesan who refused to sell her body.

In other words, it was full of very suggestive props.

Chu Yin was losing his mind.

Memories of catching Chen Meixian cheating flashed through his head—the disgusting images, the nauseating sounds.

He desperately told himself that Wei Lai wasn’t like Chen Meixian. Wei Lai was good, he would never betray him. But when he caught sight of his own aging reflection in the elevator mirror, tears burst from his eyes.

Wei Lai, still half-asleep, heard loud banging on the door. Rubbing his eyes, he thought, Are food delivery guys this impatient now?

The moment he opened the door, Chu Yin stood there with two thick trails of tears, his face flushed red as he screamed, “WEI LAI, YOU LIED TO ME!!! WHY ARE YOU HERE???”

Wei Lai: “…Chu Yin, listen to me—”

Chu Yin shoved Wei Lai aside and began darting around the room like a cat chasing its own tail. “Where is he? Hasn’t he arrived yet???”

Wei Lai: “Who??? What are you—”

Chu Yin pounced on Wei Lai, yanking off his pajamas in one swift motion, biting and gnawing at his flesh while wailing, “YOU DARE CHEAT ON ME BEHIND MY BACK!!! AHHH!!! WAHHH!!!”

At that, Wei Lai was speechless.

He had secretly ordered a super luxurious lobster platter without telling Chu Yin…
