Chapter 62 – Yin Yin Sneaks Around
by Salted FishThe next day, Wei Lai went to wake Chu Yin up.
Waking Chu Yin up was an incredibly difficult task, especially in cold weather. Chu Yin seemed to be welded to the bed—unless he had to use the bathroom, he was inseparable from it, capable of sleeping for half a day straight.
As for Wei Lai, when he wasn’t out sucking the essence of men, he was a health-conscious Queen who conserved his energy—going to bed early to nourish his skin and waking up early to attract more 1s.
With a loud rustle, Wei Lai pulled open the thick curtains. Golden sunlight flooded into the room, illuminating every corner. Standing energetically by Chu Yin’s bed, Wei Lai announced, “Wake up, it’s time for breakfast!”
Chu Yin turned over, burying his face in the blankets, leaving only a disheveled head exposed, pretending not to hear.
Wei Lai, long accustomed to this and absolutely ruthless, dug Chu Yin out. First, he pinched Chu Yin’s cheeks and inspected them. “Ohhh, much better! Our crybaby’s face is amazing! All that thick skin wasn’t for nothing!”
Chu Yin: “…!”
Only then did Chu Yin remember he’d had an allergic reaction. Instantly burdened with two hundred pounds of idol baggage, he twisted his waist with lightning speed, turning his back to Wei Lai. Sitting cross-legged at the edge of the bed, he miraculously fished out a small mirror from under his pillow, glaring at his reflection as he scrutinized it from every angle, even rubbing his cheeks with the back of his hand.
His face was no longer swollen, just a little red. But because his skin was smooth, it had a delicate, rosy glow—his looks had recovered to a middling level.
Wei Lai exclaimed in surprise, “What? You actually hide a mirror under your pillow? What else do you have stashed there?”
Chu Yin clutched the pillow protectively. “Nothing else!”
Wei Lai knew better. He wasn’t about to let it go. Reaching under the pillow in one swift motion, he pulled out a small packet of spicy dried fish.
Chu Yin: “…”
Wei Lai: “…You actually hide snacks in your bed?”
Chu Yin: “…I don’t.”
Back when Chu Yin slept on the streets, he’d developed the habit of bundling up his important belongings and tucking them under his head while he slept—otherwise, they might get stolen. Nowadays, no one stole from him anymore, but when he was outside, he still felt insecure. So he continued hiding food, essentials, and things he deemed important under his pillow.
Wei Lai gave Chu Yin a skeptical look before quickly reaching under the pillow again—this time pulling out a ghost-repelling talisman.
The tattered yellow talisman fluttered in the air. Holding it between his fingers, Wei Lai said incredulously, “Where did this come from? There wasn’t anything like this in your bed before!”
Chu Yin replied with total seriousness, “Hotels are different! Our house has anti-ghost measures in every room—it’s very safe. But hotels, especially big ones like this, who knows what might’ve happened here? Haven’t you seen how many ghosts haunt hotels in stories? Like that one time in The Shining!”
Wei Lai was speechless. After a moment of stunned silence, he asked, “What else are you hiding?”
This time, Chu Yin shook his head vigorously and plopped down firmly on the pillow, declaring resolutely, “Nothing!”
Wei Lai didn’t believe him, but he was cunning. Pretending not to care, he said dismissively, “Alright, fine. Let’s go eat. Oh man, your thought process is just…”
Chu Yin sighed in relief and let his guard down. Seizing the opportunity, Wei Lai lunged like a hawk snatching its prey. With a playful cry, he executed a “monkey steals the peach” maneuver, snatching a stiff piece of paper from under Chu Yin’s butt.
Chu Yin roared, “WEI LAI!!!”
Afraid Chu Yin might punch him in the nose, Wei Lai quickly rolled away, tumbling off the bed with a loud thud. Chu Yin scrambled after him, grabbing at Wei Lai’s wrist to stop him from looking.
But Wei Lai had already seen it.
It was a selfie of him and Chu Yin at Lake MacDonnell, their heads pressed together.
Under the clear blue sky, Wei Lai was grinning brightly, one arm slung over Chu Yin’s shoulder, slightly turned to show off his perfect hip curve. Chu Yin, meanwhile, wore a cold expression, looking like he was seconds away from tossing Wei Lai into the lake—but his head was still leaning against Wei Lai’s.
Wei Lai stared at the photo for a long time. Chu Yin’s heart pounded nervously, hoping Wei Lai would notice something.
Wei Lai: “You… why…”
Chu Yin’s Adam’s apple bobbed—Why did I hide your photo under my pillow? Go on, ask me!
I might answer: Slut Queen Madam Wei, contraceptive by day, ghost repellent by night.
Or I might say: Since you won’t sleep with me, I keep the photo there to wake myself up if I have nightmares.
If you ask sincerely, I’ll tell you the truth. I’m lying to you. The real reason is—Wei Lai, I like you!
Chu Yin was on edge, waiting for Wei Lai to ask the question he longed to hear.
But Wei Lai, already desensitized by the dried fish and ghost talisman, had learned to calmly accept Chu Yin’s bizarre logic—Keeping a selfie under his pillow to admire his handsome manager first thing in the morning? That’s just artistic dedication.
So, after a long pause, Wei Lai said with utmost seriousness, “I can’t tell if my teeth are so white they make my face look dark, or if my face is so dark it makes my teeth look too white. Either way, this photo isn’t my peak handsomeness. Why didn’t you photoshop me but edited yourself? Is our friendship really that fake?”
Chu Yin: “…”
After a long silence, Chu Yin snatched the photo back and snapped furiously, “Madam Wei, I’m cutting ties with you!”
Wei Lai: “?”
Right in front of Wei Lai, Chu Yin blocked him.
