Chapter 44 – Supplemental Update
by Salted FishThe three hundred square meter house had five bedrooms. The largest bedroom was naturally shared by Yun Xiguang and Chi Qiong. Of course, in Chi Qiong’s mind, he was the one residing in the master bedroom, and Yun Xiguang was merely enjoying the privilege of staying there because of his presence.
It was a vast suite, but the master bedroom itself spanned eighty square meters, complete with a study and a bathroom, forming a self-contained room.
The slightly larger bedroom with an en-suite bathroom was given to Azure Dragon. Not only was a large fish tank installed within the bedroom for Azure Dragon, but even the bathroom was equipped with a large bathtub, which allowed Azure Dragon to soak comfortably inside.
Yun Xiguang had also prepared a bedroom for the Crimson Chi, but since the Crimson Chi needed to live together with Azure Dragon for now, borrowing Azure Dragon’s dragon aura to cultivate, it wasn’t moving out just yet. However, the bedroom remained reserved for the Crimson Chi, and it could move over whenever it wished to reside there.
The other two bedrooms were a pure guest room, while the other was left for Wu Ailang and Snow Wolf.
Ever since Yun Xiguang moved, neither of these two huskies had returned home, persistently staying at Yun Xiguang’s place. Snow Wolf shed fur every day, but fortunately, its hair was made of ice and snow, requiring no cleaning as it quickly turned into water vapor and evaporated. This also helped save money on a humidifier in the dry climate in the north.
Snow Wolf was a vigilant wolf, always pricking up its ears to listen to the commotion in Yun Xiguang’s room, waiting to find Chi Qiong as soon as possible.
At the sound of Yun Xiguang and Azure Dragon’s conversation, Snow Wolf immediately picked up Wu Ailang and leaped forward, politely tapping the door with its paw.
Yun Xiguang smiled, admiring how polite Snow Wolf was compared to the Golden-Winged Great Peng, a noble divine beast that was less well-behaved than Snow Wolf!
He said, “The door isn’t locked, come in.”
Snow Wolf elegantly walked in, and the scene would have been even more beautiful if it weren’t for Wu Ailang dangling from its mouth.
Wu Ailang’s butt was in pain from being bitten. He mumbled half-consciously, “Xiaoyuan ah, last night I was ranking up, and I only went to bed at four in the morning! It’s just six-thirty in the morning now. I’ve only slept for two and a half hours, you’re trying to kill me with overwork!”
Snow Wolf didn’t care about Wu Ailang’s sleep; it spat him onto the ground, shrunk its body, and gracefully walked towards Yun Xiguang in a cat-like manner, lying down at his feet and barking at Chi Qiong.
Yun Xiguang didn’t understand Snow Wolf’s language and glanced at Wu Ailang.
Wu Ailang, covering his butt, said, “Xiaoyuan just said, the esteemed B-B-Beep Beep Master, do you need me, your mount, to take you on a tour of your territory?”
At this moment, Chi Qiong didn’t seem cute in his deep sleep. He sat upright, dignified and solemn, addressing Snow Wolf in a gruff voice, saying “Chirp.” But despite his attempt to sound rough, the innocence in his voice could not be concealed.
After hearing this, Snow Wolf obediently lowered its head.
Chi Qiong flapped his wings twice, jumping from Yun Xiguang’s body to Snow Wolf’s head.
Proudly carrying Chi Qiong, Snow Wolf raised its head haughtily, leading Chi Qiong around the three hundred square meter house.
Every time they entered a room, Chi Qiong would nod and “chirp.”
However, when passing by Azure Dragon’s room, Chi Qiong paused for a long time, his brows furrowed so much that his three tufts of hair gathered together.
Fortunately, Azure Dragon was tactful and immediately said, “I’ll clean the room right away.”
A small green snake then slithered into the room, sucking all the water out of the fish tank in one gulp.
Satisfied, Chi Qiong “chirped” and stepped on Snow Wolf’s head, directing it to the kitchen. The soup that Yun Xiguang had boiled the previous night should be ready today, and he wanted to enjoy breakfast.
Yun Xiguang glanced at Azure Dragon, who was forced to drink bathwater, silently mourning for a second for his once beloved spirit beast. He then followed the little spirit bird with a loving smile, contemplating whether to make a small pastry for the little spirit bird for breakfast.
Azure Dragon: “…”
After breakfast, served by Yun Xiguang, who wiped his mouth and claws with a napkin, Chi Qiong jumped onto Yun Xiguang’s shoulder, nodding his head, planning to sleep.
Wu Ailang lay on the table, looking drowsy as he asked Yun Xiguang, “Has the house been transferred to your name?”
“Not yet,” Yun Xiguang replied. “The evidence against the Yun family has just been collected. There will be further interrogations, investigations, and confirmations before the trial can begin. After the Supreme Court secretly adjudicates, I can reclaim this house as the aggrieved party. It will probably take at least half a year.”
However, he was undoubtedly the owner of the house now. Considering his status as a Grade A Spiritbond Master, the Special Affairs Bureau, after receiving approval from higher-ups, had allowed him to move in ahead of time, sparing Yun Xiguang the trouble of finding another place to live for the next half year.
But the two houses in Hai City and Shen City could not be returned to him for the time being, and the procedures still had to be followed.
“Weren’t the Yuns paying off the mortgage for you back then? That part of the income was certainly ill-gotten gains. Will they pursue repayment of that amount from you?” Wu Ailang asked worriedly.
“I asked Director Li about it, and he said they probably won’t. Someone from the Yun family has been living in these houses for years, and the rent has been sufficient to cover the mortgage. The money the Yun family used to pay off the loan was actually the rent I should have inherited, so I don’t owe anything,” Yun Xiguang explained.
“That’s great. How many square meters are your other two houses?” Wu Ailang asked.
“The one in Hai City is smaller, around two hundred square meters, and the one in Shen City is a villa, with three floors totaling five hundred square meters,” Yun Xiguang said, visibly delighted at the mention of these two houses. His eyes lit up with anticipation, giving the usually mature man a rare glimpse of youthful enthusiasm.
Chi Qiong glanced at Yun Xiguang and sighed inwardly. This spirit servant was tempting him again.
On that mountain belonging to the Yun family, the spirit servant had taken the initiative to touch his lips, enticing him in a human way. Back then, Chi Qiong was very dissatisfied. He was annoyed that Yun Xiguang hadn’t followed his bird courtship rules.
However, after they moved into this house, Yun Xiguang got a raise and took him shopping for new clothes. He repeatedly showed off the newly exchanged white shirts and white T-shirts, essentially displaying his body.
But Chi Qiong disliked white!
Being a bird, of course, he preferred feathers that were colorful and vibrant. Why would he like something as simple as white?
When Yun Xiguang was picking out clothes, Chi Qiong stood in front of that brightly colored floral jacket, but Yun Xiguang wouldn’t spare a glance at it, completely disregarding the preferences of his noble Phoenix Venerable, which really upset the bird.
If it weren’t for Yun Xiguang taking him for a bath together at night and showing off his well-defined body, Chi Qiong would have been angry until today!
If it weren’t for seeing that the prices of those few pieces of clothing were more expensive than the money he had to pay the landlord for destroying the kitchen, Chi Qiong would have burned those clothes!
During the bath, Chi Qiong sternly refused Yun Xiguang.
He “chirped” for a long time, telling Yun Xiguang that he liked splendid feathers and didn’t like colorless humans like him. He was a noble Phoenix Venerable, and Yun Xiguang was just an ordinary person. From now on, he shouldn’t entertain such delusions.
After being rejected, Yun Xiguang fell silent for a long time, perhaps hurt by his words, leaving Chi Qiong feeling oddly low-spirited.
Of course, all of this was purely Chi Qiong’s imagination. The truth was that Yun Xiguang hadn’t understood a word Chi Qiong said. He merely thought that he might dislike water, which was why he resisted and chirped in the bathroom. Afterward, Yun Xiguang’s silence was simply because he was pondering how to repay Wu Ailang for the renovation costs.
This beautiful misunderstanding continued.
Chi Qiong discovered that despite being rejected, Yun Xiguang still harbored secret affection for him. Every morning, while grooming him, he would secretly kiss him. Did he really think the noble Phoenix Venerable was asleep and knew nothing? He was merely unwilling to shatter the spirit servant’s delusions!
Since regaining the two phoenix feathers from the Yun family, although Chi Qiong hadn’t regained his strength, his excessive sleepiness had improved significantly.
He became more energetic, with more waking hours during the day, unlike before when he would sleep soundly through thunder.
Golden-Winged Great Peng’s daily greetings were known to Chi Qiong, but he was simply too lazy to wake up and acknowledge them.
In ancient times, there were countless people and spirit beasts greeting him every day, and Chi Qiong had no obligation to respond to each one.
However, Golden-Winged Great Peng had gone too far today, daring to interrupt while the spirit servant was serving him. It was truly presumptuous and deserved some punishment.
It was time to teach the spirit servant the technique of using Heavenly Fire to set up barriers. If insufficient spiritual energy was available, it could be drawn from those three phoenix feathers.
Speaking of phoenix feathers, Chi Qiong couldn’t help but look up at the natural gas stove in Yun Xiguang’s home, where two phoenix feathers were being roasted, burning with golden flames.
These two phoenix feathers were undergoing purification by fire.
When they were with the Yun family, they were tainted by blood filled with resentment. When retrieved, they appeared free of impurities, but Chi Qiong hated these two phoenix feathers, always sensing a foul smell emanating from them. He requested Yun Xiguang to purify these two phoenix feathers.
Following Chi Qiong’s instructions, Yun Xiguang placed the phoenix feathers on the fire and cast a spell to increase the temperature of the flames, accelerating the purification process.
Ordinary fire could not damage the phoenix feathers; only the invisible filth on the outside was being slowly burned away.
After roasting for over a month, from Wu Ailang’s house to their new home, these two phoenix feathers were finally clean.
Chi Qiong “chirped,” signaling Yun Xiguang to retrieve the phoenix feathers.
Yun Xiguang turned off the gas stove, took back the phoenix feathers, and brought out the previous one, placing the three phoenix feathers on the table.
When the three phoenix feathers touched, their radiance grew brighter, resonating slightly. The power of the three combined was far greater than the sum of their individual strengths.
Even Wu Ailang, who could see nothing, rubbed his eyes and said, “Why do I feel like something is shining on the table? Strange, I can see the light, but not the object in the light.”
Yun Xiguang immediately realized that after the three phoenix feathers came together, they were attempting to break through the seal left by the laws.
Although they could not shatter the seal, they could indeed tear open a small gap, leaking out a bit of power.
Chi Qiong circled the phoenix feathers, ensuring there was no foul smell on them, before proudly and elegantly lifting a claw and placing it on the phoenix feathers.
Flames enveloped Chi Qiong, making the little spirit bird in the golden flames appear especially sacred.
He opened his mouth and called out to Yun Xiguang.
This time, Yun Xiguang heard “chirp,” but in his mind, a proud youth’s voice echoed.
“Yun Xiguang, listen carefully. My name is Chi Qiong. You must remember my name forever, abide by our pact, love me, protect me, respect me, until the end of your life.” These were the words Yun Xiguang heard from Chi Qiong.
Yun Xiguang’s expression softened, and he softly asked, “Can I?”
He had always assumed that once Chi Qiong regained his strength, he would dissolve their pact.
How could such a powerful divine beast, unbound by the laws, willingly be constrained by a contract?
“What else could it be? Are you going to violate the contract?” A hint of danger crept into the youth’s voice.
“No, I’m not violating the contract, I’m just overwhelmed with joy. I just feel… how fortunate I am to be able to form a pact with you,” Yun Xiguang spoke sincerely.
The moment he met Chi Qiong and formed a pact with him, it had softened Yun Xiguang’s entire life.
He had thought he would never have a life-or-death-bound spirit beast again.
It was Chi Qiong who helped him realize his dream of becoming a Spiritbond Master.
Yun Xiguang had already made up his mind. In this lifetime, he would only be a Spiritbond Master for the little spirit bird. After the little spirit bird dissolved their pact, he wouldn’t seek out any other spirit beasts.
Chi Qiong received a satisfactory answer and lifted his little claw, chirping happily.
He was saying, “Regarding your secret pursuit of this Exalted One, this Exalted One cannot give you a response, but this Exalted One likes your courtship, please continue courting. Even if this Exalted One doesn’t respond, you must continue.”
However, since Chi Qiong didn’t touch the phoenix feather, Yun Xiguang didn’t understand what he was saying.
Yun Xiguang didn’t know what Chi Qiong was talking about, but assuming it was related to the contract, he readily nodded in agreement.
Fortunately, he didn’t understand, and unfortunately, he didn’t understand.
