Chapter 56 – Perfect Match
by Salted Fish
The two finished their meal in silence. After Guan Heng had cleared the table and washed the dishes, he returned to the study.
Ye Zhou found it boring to stay in the living room alone, so he went back to the bedroom to play on his phone to pass the time. When he was done showering, Guan Heng still hadn’t emerged from the study. Just when Ye Zhou was worried that Guan Heng might sleep in the study tonight, Guan Heng finally came out, taking his clothes into the bathroom to shower.
After Guan Heng finished showering, he didn’t return to the study again, seemingly planning to go to sleep. Ye Zhou had been remembering the incident at the hospital where he had hit Guan Heng, and now he finally found the opportunity to ask, “Did I hurt you?”
“Nothing happened.”
But Ye Zhou was still uneasy, “Can I take a look?”
Guan Heng had no choice but to lift up the hem of his pajamas to show him. Perhaps because his abs were too firm, there was only a bruise on them, which didn’t seem to be a big problem. He had suffered more severe injuries while practicing boxing and sparring with others before, but there was no need to mention that.
Ye Zhou was finally relieved, it was good that no bones were broken, “Let me help you apply some medicine.”
“No need, it’ll be fine in a few days.” Guan Heng didn’t even give him a goodnight kiss, he only said, “Go to sleep early.”
Ye Zhou felt helpless, but there was nothing he could do. He had brought this upon himself, and now he would have to bear it obediently.
However, whenever Ye Zhou had some abnormality in the middle of the night, Guan Heng would still hold him in his arms, allowing Ye Zhou to sleep more soundly, then quietly let go when he woke up.
It was like this for the next few days. Guan Heng wasn’t giving him the cold shoulder; he would answer whatever Ye Zhou asked him, but he just wouldn’t get intimate with him anymore, nor would he talk much to him. Ye Zhou could clearly feel Guan Heng’s distance, and they seemed to have returned to how they were before they got together. Guan Heng was a mature and disciplined man who wouldn’t make unreasonable demands and throw a tantrum. The reason why he did this, Ye Zhou had roughly understood over the past few days—it was to let him experience firsthand what it was like to be neglected and hidden from by someone closest to him.
In fact, Guan Heng could have not been angry about it, but if so, Ye Zhou wouldn’t learn his lesson, and he would do it again next time, thinking that he could handle everything on his own.
It wasn’t until Saturday that Ye Zhou still hadn’t made up with Guan Heng.
The restaurant was very busy on weekends, so Ye Zhou usually wouldn’t take a day off on this day, but he had a special reason to do so today—he was going to see Teacher Zhan for treatment. Since Guan Heng already knew about it, he didn’t plan to hide it from Fang Ji anymore, and he revealed everything in the bar the night before.
“No wonder…” After Fang Ji learned the truth, he was silent for a while, but just like when he first learned that Ye Zhou was gay, he didn’t look at him with any strange eyes.
Ordinary people had a stereotypical impression of control freaks, but they were even more opinionated about mental patients, with greater apprehension towards the latter than the former. Fang Ji had known Ye Zhou for over ten years and was well acquainted with his character, so he could be so unconcerned. He was also a cheerful person, unable to say anything comforting, and could only crack a joke to liven up the atmosphere, “You two are truly a perfect match.”
When Ye Zhou heard this, he also laughed. He didn’t feel offended, on the contrary, he liked this description very much. Guan Heng’s need for control needed to be satisfied, and he just happened to fit the criteria. He had originally thought he was in a dead end, but unexpectedly, at the end of the road, he found a peach blossom spring. He and Guan Heng weren’t a perfect match, what else could they be? “I think so too.”
He had an appointment with Teacher Zhan in the evening, but Guan Heng and Ye Zhou had to set off in the afternoon, because Teacher Zhan didn’t live in this city, and it took more than three hours just to travel there.
With Ye Zhou not in the restaurant, Fang Ji had to take over. He had helped out for a while when Ye Zhou injured his foot, it was just a minor matter.
Given Ye Zhou’s current condition, it was best not to drive alone, so the whole journey had to be driven by Guan Heng. It would take six hours just for the round trip, not to mention that Ye Zhou had to work in the restaurant the next day, so they had to go back and forth in one day, which was very rushed in terms of time.
Although Guan Heng hadn’t explained anything, Ye Zhou understood when he sat in the passenger seat. Guan Heng followed him to the hospital that day because he was worried about him.
Guan Heng had been cold to him these few days, but he didn’t neglect to remind him, “Rest for a while if you’re tired.”
“Mm.” Ye Zhou leaned against the back of the chair, looking sideways at Guan Heng. His mental stress had been great enough lately, and he easily felt tired. But being around Guan Heng, he could relax, and he could trust him to take care of everything. Ye Zhou maintained this position and fell asleep defenselessly.
Every time they stopped at a red light, Guan Heng turned his head to look at Ye Zhou. After several times, he couldn’t resist reaching out to touch his head.
Ye Zhou slept all the way to their destination, feeling his face gently pinched. He opened his eyes, the sky outside was completely dark, the car had been turned off for who knew how long, and Guan Heng was just looking at him quietly, “We’re here, get out of the car.”
“Okay.”
Ye Zhou lowered his head to unbuckle the seat belt, and when he looked up again, Guan Heng suddenly leaned over and kissed him.
Ye Zhou was stunned for a moment, and by the time he reacted, Guan Heng had already backed away, getting out of the car as if nothing had happened.
Ye Zhou’s mood was like a stagnant lake rippling with ripples, experiencing emotional fluctuations. Even though his current state wasn’t good and he lacked motivation to do anything, he could clearly feel at this moment that he loved this person deeply, which was why he was moved by the other’s joys and sorrows, and cared about him more than himself.
Ye Zhou immediately opened the car door and got out, this time he no longer cared about anything, taking the initiative to grab Guan Heng’s hand.
Guan Heng didn’t shake him off, just held Ye Zhou’s hand and walked toward a medical building.
Guan Heng and Teacher Zhan had arranged to meet directly at the medical center, because it had top-notch doctors and complete facilities. Guan Heng seemed familiar with the place, leading Ye Zhou directly to the office upstairs.
They had made an appointment in advance, so Zhan Hong had set aside time for them, first meeting Guan Heng, then looking at the person beside him.
The two had been holding hands all the way here. It was fine for Ye Zhou not to know anyone here, but it seemed a bit inappropriate in front of Teacher Guan Heng. He had wanted to let go, but Guan Heng still had no intention of letting go, so he didn’t move, just a little nervous, his face a little red.
Guan Heng greeted first, still composed, respectful yet with a hint of intimacy, “Teacher. This is Ye Zhou.”
Ye Zhou didn’t know how to address Zhan Hong, so he followed Guan Heng’s lead and said, “Hello, Teacher.”
Zhan Hong had seen their clasped hands earlier, and after looking at Ye Zhou, he immediately understood that this was the person Guan Heng had recognized. He smiled kindly, saying nothing more, leading them toward the consultation room.
Zhan Hong was old, after all, and couldn’t do everything himself, especially since mental illness required long-term follow-up or treatment, so he introduced them to his star disciple, a chief physician named Wang who was famous in a major hospital.
Guan Heng had no objections to Teacher Zhan’s arrangements. He had always known that Teacher Zhan was a responsible person, and since he had promised him, he would continue to pay attention afterward.
Ye Zhou was first taken to do a brainwave examination, genetic testing, and a series of preliminary preparations. These weren’t difficult, just rather troublesome, requiring moving from place to place. Ye Zhou couldn’t possibly have Guan Heng and Teacher Zhan follow him around, so he went alone. Guan Heng accompanied Zhan Hong to wait for Ye Zhou to finish his examination in another consulting room.
