Chapter Index

“Do you think I’m an alchemist master?” Daniel retorted with annoyance to Lin Wei.

Lin Wei shot him a look that said “You’re useless” and coolly replied, “Then you’ll have to steer the ship.”

    “What?”

“Look, originally we could have flown over the Siren Sea directly, but now that we’re stuck with a non-flying alchemist like you, we’ll have to borrow Old Ansel’s Magic Wheel to go out to sea, and even bribe him with crystals.”

Daniel: “Wait, aren’t you also a non-flying thing?”

Lin Wei crossed his arms and looked at him: “The only non-flying thing here is you.”

“Doesn’t seem like it…” Daniel’s icy green eyes scrutinized Lin Wei. “Can your little body even summon a flying magical beast?”

“Of course, watch this.” Lin Wei pretended to chant a spell and then called out, “Duan Yu, come out!”

There was no movement from upstairs.

    Daniel: “…”

Clearly, Duan Yu had no intention of responding to this guy anymore.

Haitie looked helplessly at the two of them. Ever since they had gotten familiar with each other, these two would inevitably bicker every time they met—Lin Wei’s reason was “Seeing that green outfit makes me uncomfortable.”

Most elemental mages wore robes that matched their element, but for people like Lin Wei and Daniel, the color of their robes was more flexible. Aside from the white that symbolized an Archmage, they could wear any color. Lin Wei, for example, often wore a black, narrow-sleeved, waist-cinched magic robe. Compared to him, Daniel was much more unique.

This alchemist not only loved green but also favored bright green and preferred wide sleeves and loose waistlines. It was common to see him floating around the floating islands and the main island in his green attire, standing out strikingly, especially with his signature rings on his hands. He was truly a sight to behold on Siren Island.

Daniel’s peers had this to say about him: “If I were Master Sirius, I’d also be tempted to throw him off the island.”

However, no matter what, with Daniel stirring up trouble, time passed quickly. Although the Seasonal Tide hadn’t completely subsided, the students soon began flying off the island one after another. By the time Xipo, who left the latest, came to bid farewell, it was already nearing evening.

Xipo and his group were heading to the Magic Beast Forest, where they planned to hunt for magic crystals.

“Although we’d love to go adventuring, with graduation approaching, we need to find a way to build up our resources,” Xipo explained.

Magic crystals could be obtained from the bodies of magical beasts. The higher the grade of the crystal, the purer the magic power it contained. These crystals were also one of the common currencies used by mages.

Xipo asked, “Where are you four planning to go?”

Haitie answered, “We’re going to the Floating Sky Capital for a while first. We haven’t decided on the rest yet.”

“That’s a great place for you. The Floating Sky Capital is very safe, and it’s the most prosperous place in the Magic World. You can buy any magic ingredient or alchemical product you can imagine there,” Xipo said. “Everyone who’s been there says it’s what the Magic World should be like.”

Daniel, with a sly look, fiddled with his space ring: “I’ve stored a lot of things I made myself. I plan to make a fortune there.”

For Daniel, who was notorious far and wide, Xipo could only sigh in resignation.

After seeing Xipo off, the four of them also prepared to depart.

Ansel reluctantly handed over the control scroll to them.

“If you break the Magic Wheel, don’t come back!”

After saying that, Ansel glanced at Daniel: “Especially you, the alchemist kid. Don’t even think about tampering with the Magic Wheel!”

Daniel, who was innocently caught in the crossfire, suddenly brightened up: “Teacher Ansel, if you hadn’t mentioned it, I wouldn’t have thought of it…”

Ansel snorted and waved his sleeve to send the group onto the boat: “Just like that damn Old Sirius used to say!”

Regardless, the Magic Wheel, which they had finally managed to borrow, slowly sailed away from Siren Island.

As they passed through the center of the Siren Sea, it happened to be daytime, so the four of them didn’t catch a glimpse of any mermaids.

Old Ansel’s concerns were indeed justified. Over the next two days, Daniel’s troublemaking was minimal, as he spent most of his time poking around the deck and cabins, clearly itching to take the Magic Wheel apart.

Fortunately, the small boat, which had been passed down for generations, was of excellent quality and safely delivered them to the dock along the Siren Bay.

The Magic Wheel couldn’t return on its own without someone to control it, so they had to rent a long-term berth at the port, planning to sail it back when they returned.

As for the cost of the berth… the two elemental mages who had been born into the Magic World naturally didn’t have a single coin of the continent’s common currency, and Daniel showed no intention of paying either.

Although the Magic Academy’s ships came and went from the dock every year, they were quite low-key. Just as the portly middle-aged man at the rental office was startled by the sudden appearance of the legendary mages, the words “Mages, you can dock your ship for as long as you like, no charge!” rolled around in his throat but never made it out.

Lin Wei stepped forward helplessly, took out a simple yet heavy-looking emblem from his space ring, and waved it in front of the man: “Charge it to the Tidis family.”

Given the shock of seeing mages appear in person, the emblem didn’t cause much more of a stir. The man, flustered, first bowed to Lin Wei, then bowed to the other three one by one.

Lin Wei sighed inwardly. The image of mages in the minds of the people on the continent didn’t seem to be very positive.

Since they still couldn’t fly long distances, the four of them would have to rely on the continent’s transportation methods for most of their journey.

In the Magic Academy, Lin Wei was at best a talented summoner, but once they were on the continent, it was a completely different story.

Lin Wei spoke first: “Let’s go buy some clothes from the continent first, or else we’ll run into trouble.”

Thus, the three of them were taken by Lin Wei to a tailor shop in the city.

Haitie looked at the various clothes in the tailor shop with the same eyes that mermaids had when they saw jewelry.

However, she still had some sense: “But… what am I supposed to use to pay for these?”

Lin Wei finally regained a bit of his haughty demeanor and said to Haitie, “Don’t worry, just pick what you like. My family is loaded.”

Haitie, reassured, cheered and began selecting clothes.

Lin Wei glanced at the colorful Daniel: “You go pick something too, but no green!”

Of course, Duan Yu had some trouble picking out clothes on his own.

So Lin Wei quite naturally led him directly to the fitting room and went out to pick clothes for both of them.

As the eldest son of the Duke’s family, Lin Wei had always been dressed meticulously since he was a child, so he was quite confident in his taste.

However, when it came to choosing colors for Duan Yu’s clothes, he found himself deeply conflicted.

The reason was simple: he couldn’t help but imagine Duan Yu wearing these colors… and he seemed to look good in all of them?

In the end, Lin Wei chose two outfits with a white base and golden patterns.

These colors were strikingly similar to the magic robe Duan Yu had worn in his previous life.

The pristine color, standing on a battlefield drenched in blood, was utterly breathtaking.

As for himself, Lin Wei stuck to the black he was accustomed to.

For Duan Yu, who was used to simple magic robes, these meticulously crafted, intricate garments felt like something from another world.

In the end, Lin Wei had to help, personally fastening the delicate collar buttons and cufflinks.

When Duan Yu was finally dressed, looking at the fine embroidery, the elegant collar, and the perfectly fitted waistline, even Lin Wei couldn’t help but admire him.

“When we get to the Imperial Capital, the unmarried ladies will be screaming when they see you.”

Duan Yu was puzzled: “Am I that scary?”

“No, no,” Lin Wei patted his shoulder. “When your eyes recover, you’ll understand.”

On the other side, Daniel had also finished dressing.

Even though Lin Wei had warned him, the guy still couldn’t overcome his preference for green. Fortunately, he toned it down a bit, opting for a less eye-catching dark green.

He looked at Duan Yu and Lin Wei, clicking his tongue in admiration: “You two really look the part.”

Lin Wei, in a rare good mood, didn’t snap back at him.

A little while later, Haitie, dressed in her new outfit, appeared before the three of them. The deep red dress complemented her hair color beautifully, adding a touch of radiance to her already lively demeanor.

And Lin Wei, as before, simply flashed the Tidis family emblem, and the bill was charged to the Tidis family’s fleet, which frequently traveled between the harbors.

It wouldn’t be long before the news reached the Tidis family in the Imperial Capital.

After a year of separation, it was time to go back.

“When we get to the Imperial Capital, there’ll be even better things,” Lin Wei said to Haitie, who was still a little reluctant to leave. “We’ll get you a few custom-made outfits then.”

With Lin Wei, the wealthy young duke, around, their journey on the continent was going incredibly smoothly. The four of them boarded a luxurious and comfortable carriage, heading toward the Imperial Capital.

“I take back what I said before,” Haitie said, lifting the carriage curtain to look at the scenery outside. “This place is much more fun than the island.”

Then she added, “When Young Duke Lin Wei is around.”

The Empire was currently in an era of unparalleled prosperity and wealth, which made everything feel fresh and exciting to Haitie. Lin Wei, looking at the bustling towns they passed along the way, also felt a sense of déja vu.

The carriage moved quickly, and after just two days, they arrived at Crescent Town on the edge of the Central Forest. It seemed that in another four or five days, they would reach the Imperial Capital.

As night fell, they found a nearby tavern to stay in.

The Central Forest was vast. It wasn’t just a popular spot for mages; there were also many ordinary people who formed mercenary groups to hunt low-level magical beasts. If a mercenary group had a particularly skilled warrior, they could even venture deeper to hunt mid-level beasts.

Warriors were fewer in number compared to mages, but there were still many of them.

They couldn’t communicate with magic elements, but their bodies could naturally contain elements. The stronger their bodies, the more elements they could hold, and when they fought, the elements would be released, increasing their power exponentially.

Warriors didn’t have a fixed training method like mages. Those with weaker talents would join mercenary groups or serve as guards for noble families. Those with strong talents often joined the Imperial Army, and if they were lucky, they could even enter the Royal Knight Order, serving the Imperial Family.

Crescent Town, being close to the Central Forest, had a bustling trade and was a frequent stopping point for mercenary groups. Even at night, the first floor of the tavern was lively.

However, there seemed to be… an argument coming from inside the tavern?
