Dohee blinked at the endless scroll of announcements. Truthfully, he had been secretly looking forward to the Winter Festival, it was always fun. Everything sounded great… until…
“Couple Avatar…?”
What the hell? A couple avatar? Who the hell am I supposed to do that with?
In Sword of God, event quests like this were never quick. They always demanded hours of grinding for the final reward.
Screw it. I just won’t get it.
But then he clicked the “Preview: Sweet Achelle Couple Avatar Set” link, and his resolve crumbled.
The set was stunning. Winter-themed, with intricate embroidery, jeweled accents, and even a subtle falling snow effect. Dyed properly, it would be gorgeous.
“Damn it. These bastards put more effort into free event avatars than the cash shop ones.”
After a moment of hesitation, he grabbed his phone. Baek Yeohoo was his best bet.
If he missed this, it’d be a disgrace to his title as Sword of God’s top fashionista and dye master.
💎
Spoiler: His plan to recruit Baek Yeohoo failed spectacularly.
“Uh… I already promised Yeojin…?”
“What? Tell her to do it with the healer.”
“I asked, but Daeyoung got to them first.”
“Daeyoung? Since when do they care about this stuff? What’s going on?”
But this time, he said he wanted to do it. Yeojin’s pissed too because she couldn’t team up with the healer… Trying to smooth things over now.
Hearing Yeohoo’s dejected voice, Dohee knew he couldn’t throw a tantrum. He was well aware of how much Yeojin doted on the healer, so he had no choice but to give up on Yeohoo. Normally, Yeojin was easygoing–nothing ever really bothered her–but this time, even Dohee and Yeohoo had to tread carefully.
Lying on his bed, Dohee grabbed his phone and opened GameTalk, a messenger app that allowed voice chat and screen-sharing while playing. It was essential for coordinating difficult raids or new content, though Dohee hadn’t used it much lately. Back when he first challenged Corrupted Hana and the Snow Witch, he’d relied on GameTalk to strategize with other players. But those days were long gone. These days, raids weren’t as challenging, and he didn’t care much for chatting while gaming.
The only reason he’d reinstalled it was for Knockoff
[Party] AssaGo: Hey, do you know GameTalk?
[Party] GOingSupporter187: What’s that…? 8ㅅ8
[Party] AssaGo: It’s an app. Works on PC or phone.
[Party] AssaGo: Our playtimes never match, so just download it.
[Party] AssaGo: Sign up, give me your ID, and I’ll add you.
[Party] AssaGo: Just message me when you’ll log in.
[Party] AssaGo: Makes it easier for me to carry you or gear you up.
[Party] GOingSupporter187: ㅠㅡㅠ Am I being too much trouble…?
[Party] AssaGo: How long are you gonna say that lol
[Party] AssaGo: It’s less annoying than waiting around for you.
[Party] GOingSupporter187: Oh, really!? 8ㅅ8 I’ll download it now!
Their mismatched schedules had finally gotten on his nerves. Knockofg was about to hit Level 50, and Dohee needed to carry him daily while also grinding dailies and life quests together. But the guy logged in at completely random hours, and Dohee’s own playtime was erratic. It was impossible to sync up.
Is the icon green? How do I sign up? Am I doing this right?
The sheer number of questions just to download and register was absurd. After much struggle, he’d finally added Knockofg as a friend two days ago.
He’d considered just giving his phone number but changed his mind. His profile picture showed his face, and he knew nothing about Knockoff–not even what he looked like. It felt too awkward to exchange numbers so casually. That had nothing to do with how naive or kind Knockoff seemed.
Dohee opened their chat.
Me
Hey
Knockoff
Yes!? ㅎㅁㅎ I’ll be able to log in this evening today! Planning to play a bit before my part-time job…!
The reply came faster than expected.
When does this guy even sleep? He guessed Knockoff napped between morning and noon, but since Dohee was usually asleep then too, he couldn’t confirm. Still, no matter when he messaged, he replied quickly.
Dohee snorted at the flood of unsolicited details about Knockoff’s playtime. All he’d sent was a single “Hey.” Talk about eager.
Me
ㅋㅋㅋㅋ That’s not what I meant
Did you happen to see the Winter Fest update notes?
Knockoff
Winter Fest!?
Me
Winter Festival
Knockoff
Ah! That thing you asked me about a while ago!?
Me
Yeah
It got updated, so I was wondering if you saw it
Knockoff
Uh…No… Where can I see that?
Me
?? Obviously on the official site, where else?
Knockoff
Ah… I usually just launch the game through the launcher, so I don’t really go on the official site ㅠ-ㅠ
Yeah. I figured you wouldn’t know.
Me
Then go check it out now. Are you working right now?
Knockoff
Ah, no! I only have an evening shift today, so I was thinking of going to the library to study for a bit ㅎㅁㅎ
Me
ㅋㅋㅋ Isn’t it winter break?
Knockoff
Yeah! But if I get it done now, it’ll be easier when the semester starts!
Me
You’re really living that diligent life
Anyway, if you take a look, there’s this thing where they’re giving out couple avatars
If you don’t have anyone to do it with, do it with me
Knockoff
Couple avatar!? I’m fine with it, but… can two male characters do it together?
8..?8人8
His finger hovered over the screen. What kind of outdated mindset is this? It literally doesn’t matter. Most in-game “couple” events just required registered friends, regardless of gender. But for some reason–Knockoff’s ssumption, that “couple” meant strictly male and female–irked him. Tch. Dohee licked his lips and typed back.
Me
Doesn’t matter.
It’s not like either of us has anyone else to do it with, and the avatar’s cute
Knockoff
Then I’ll go check it out too! I’m good with it! ㅎㅁㅎ
Of course you are. It’s not like you have anyone else either.
Dohee snorted for no real reason.
Still, it looked like they’d be able to get through the quest without any issues.
