At midnight, the TV began its scheduled rerun of the 8 PM primetime drama.

Outside, the rain was heavier than before. As the night deepened, the temperature dropped a few more degrees. Pei Siyin leaned against Song Shengyang’s shoulder, hugging his arm and yawning again and again.

“You’re this sleepy?” Song Shengyang reclined on the sofa, his bare upper body starting to feel the chill. He shifted his numb right arm into a new position. “Then go to bed.”

Pei Siyin looked like he could barely keep his eyes open. He let go of Song Shengyang and wrapped both arms around his waist from the side. “If I fall asleep, I’m afraid you’ll leave.”

His skin was bare, so every touch landed with full force. The towel around Song Shengyang’s waist hung loose, like it would fall off with a single tug.

He turned awkwardly and patted the arms around his waist. “You’re falling asleep on me. Where am I supposed to sleep?”

The chatter from the drama on TV filled the background. Pei Siyin rested his chin on his shoulder and let out a quiet laugh. “There’s only one bedroom.”

The implication was clear. They were going to be in the same bed tonight.

Pei Siyin took the inner side. When Song Shengyang got into bed, Pei Siyin reached out immediately, throwing an arm and a leg over him, stretching himself out across Song Shengyang’s body.

“What now.” Song Shengyang no longer made a fuss about this kind of thing. “How am I supposed to sleep like this.”

“Like this,” Pei Siyin mumbled, playing dumb.

Song Shengyang lay spread out on the bed in a starfish pose. The weight on his chest was manageable. He gripped Pei Siyin’s waist and gave it a firm but not-too-hard squeeze. “I’m going to sleep.”

His voice was a little hoarse. Pei Siyin reached out in the dark and pressed his hand against Song Shengyang’s Adam’s apple. His wrist was immediately caught. Song Shengyang sighed. “What are you trying to do now?”

The black night hung like a curtain. Not even the stars gave off light. Pei Siyin stayed draped across him and nudged his chin with his nose. “I want to kiss you.”

“Song Shengyang, just one kiss before bed. Is that okay?”

The darkness between them was absolute. The only thing either of them could feel was each other’s breath, hot and close. Pei Siyin raised a finger and pressed it gently to Song Shengyang’s lips. His heart pounded in his chest. “I promise.”

Song Shengyang didn’t overthink it. The next second, he agreed. He pulled Pei Siyin into his arms, lifted his chin, and kissed him. His hand locked tightly around the small of Pei Siyin’s back. He bent one leg and pushed Pei Siyin’s thighs apart, pressing him flat beneath him.

“You don’t know how to open your mouth when you kiss?” Song Shengyang pulled back briefly. One hand was braced by Pei Siyin’s side, and the other tilted his chin. “I’ll teach you. Stick your tongue out.”

Pei Siyin had no idea why Song Shengyang was suddenly doing this.

He was breathing hard. Song Shengyang’s scent clung to him. He opened his mouth and stuck out the tip of his tongue, unsure if it was enough. Trying to be clear, he tilted his head and gently brushed his tongue against Song Shengyang’s lips.

Song Shengyang caught it immediately. He tilted Pei Siyin’s chin and slid his warm tongue into his mouth, licking slowly along the soft inner wall before tangling with his tongue.

Pei Siyin tilted his neck back, his chin caught in Song Shengyang’s firm grip. His strength was overwhelming, forcing a flood of saliva from the intensity of the kiss, so much that Pei Siyin couldn’t even swallow fast enough. His hands braced against Song Shengyang’s chest, low muffled whimpers slipping from his nose as he trembled.

But Song Shengyang didn’t let up. He smeared the spit from the corner of Pei Siyin’s mouth with his thumb, then locked onto the base of his tongue, sucking and tangling with no intention of stopping.

Pei Siyin’s tongue went numb from the kiss. His eyes brimmed red with tears. Even in that dizzying lack of air, he still clawed a few red scratches across Song Shengyang’s chest.

Song Shengyang bit down on his lower lip, holding it between his teeth before pulling away. “Was that good enough?”

The lips that had just been devoured were now strangely hot and dry. Pei Siyin touched his mouth, fingertips coming away damp. “Probably.”

His voice still held a reluctant trace of longing.

Song Shengyang decided he wasn’t going to coddle him anymore. He grabbed the blanket at the edge of the bed and pulled it over both of them. Then he flipped Pei Siyin onto his side, back facing him. “Now sleep.”

It was technically back-to-back, but Pei Siyin’s spine was pressed tightly to Song Shengyang’s chest, the whole of him wrapped in his arms.

    “You like sleeping like this?”

“No.” Song Shengyang closed his eyes and wrapped his arms tighter around him. He pulled Pei Siyin’s wrist to his chest and tangled their legs together. “I’m just worried you’ll start acting up again.”

Pei Siyin tried to twist around. “What kind of person says that?”

Song Shengyang didn’t answer. He buried his face into the side of Pei Siyin’s neck, his breath deep and steady. Pei Siyin lay there like he had been tied up tight, unable to move. With some effort, he pushed back with his hips and bit down on Song Shengyang’s arm. “You’re burning me up.”

That push made Song Shengyang grunt through his teeth. He pushed up Pei Siyin’s sleep shirt with one hand and pressed his erection against the small of his back.

The towel around his waist had disappeared long ago. Pei Siyin’s back felt like it had been branded by something searing. Song Shengyang rolled his hips, grinding against the tender skin. “Whose fault do you think that is.”

A wave of heat spread through his spine. Pei Siyin stiffened. Song Shengyang held him in place. “I’ve got a meeting in the morning. I’m going to sleep now.”

The heat against his lower back didn’t go away. Pei Siyin’s eyelids were heavy too. Limbs going soft, he mumbled drowsily, “Then what about you?”

“Don’t move. I’ll be fine in a minute.”

Pei Siyin stopped moving. Song Shengyang gave a small smile and rested his head against the back of Pei Siyin’s neck. Not long after, he heard him breathing evenly in his sleep.

Their bodies were too close. Sweat gathered beneath the blanket, sticking damply to their skin. Song Shengyang carefully slipped his hand free and turned on his phone, letting the screen light guide him as he moved without waking Pei Siyin.

The sheets were a mess. He spent a long time trying to find the towel that had nearly fallen off the bed. Once he got it, he crept into the bathroom, leaned back against the cold tiles, and let the chill from the porcelain press down the heat. But the fire inside him raged hotter than ever.

He grabbed his painfully hard cock, shut his eyes, and all he could see was Pei Siyin’s face.

Song Shengyang told himself it didn’t mean anything. That was just his body reacting, nothing more.

After cleaning up and changing clothes, he came back to bed. He still couldn’t understand why he kept giving in to Pei Siyin.

The moment he lay down, the sleeping figure beside him rolled over, as if by instinct, and curled into his arms again. Pei Siyin pressed close, knees drawn up, murmuring softly in his sleep.

    “Song Shengyang.”

Song Shengyang knew he was fast asleep, but still responded quietly, “Why are you calling me?”

It was a conversation beyond waking, two mismatched frequencies brushing against each other until they converged on the same thing. Pei Siyin let out a quiet hum.

    “I like you.”

Song Shengyang’s heart took a direct hit. It jumped like it had been wound with springs. He turned on his side and let Pei Siyin cling to his waist.
