    01. The Psychiatrist

Ahead stood the Zhou family estate. He stepped out of the car and strolled inside under the watchful eyes of the bodyguards. The patient sat in the specially-prepared consultation room, wearing soft white loungewear.

Beside him sat a gentle-looking young man with a quiet, serene demeanor. His features bore traces of mixed foreign ancestry—his nose slightly upturned, brow bones more prominent than average, and his eyes a striking shade of platinum-amber, beautiful and elfin.

When he saw the psychiatrist enter, the young man offered a small smile.

He then gently tugged on the patient’s sleeve. The patient lazily glanced at the doctor and gave a bland greeting.

The psychiatrist nodded to them both. “Good afternoon.”

This was his twelfth visit—and the last. His employer hoped the patient would come to accept the second personality residing within him, for the two consciousnesses to coexist in harmony.

From what he’d gathered, the patient had a twin brother who had passed away several months ago. Unable to accept the loss, the patient began living as his brother.

Eventually, a personality split occurred, manifesting as the brother’s identity.

However, as the primary persona, the patient had difficulty accepting this.

At first, the patient had been furious, demanding to know how to eliminate the second personality.

Already paid a deposit, the psychiatrist tried to gently persuade him to accept the second persona. The patient flipped the table in a rage.

By the second visit, a beautiful young man had appeared beside the patient.

He introduced himself as the patient’s boyfriend.

The psychiatrist adjusted his glasses in mild surprise. The wealthy Zhou family had only one heir left, and that heir had a male partner?

He sighed inwardly. Old Master Zhou must be quite open-minded.

The young man smiled and remarked, “Langxing likes wearing glasses too, sometimes.”

As soon as he said that, the patient’s face darkened terribly. His fists clenched. The psychiatrist thought the table might be in danger again and braced himself accordingly.

But instead, the young man placed his hand gently over the patient’s.

    The menacing aura vanished instantly.

The psychiatrist, taken aback, eased himself back into his seat.

Pushing his glasses again, he glanced thoughtfully at the young man and asked if he’d be present next session. The young man nodded with a soft, tender gaze.

As time passed, the psychiatrist grew more familiar with the patient’s condition—and more informed about the older brother’s background.

Old Master Zhou occasionally shared childhood anecdotes of the twin brothers.

Gradually, the psychiatrist guided the patient into recalling his own early memories. The bond between the brothers grew stronger.

Eventually, the patient softened. He expressed a willingness to coexist with the second persona—but was dissatisfied with the latter’s active hours.

The psychiatrist then discovered that the second persona always emerged at night—and shared intimate moments with the primary persona’s boyfriend. Ah. That explained a lot.

No wonder the patient was so agitated—he felt cuckolded, unable to be close to his own lover at night. Who wouldn’t be enraged?

This time, the psychiatrist needed to speak directly with the second persona.

When he brought up the idea, the patient wore a sour expression and shut his eyes.

When he opened them again, his entire demeanor had shifted.

Looking at the psychiatrist, he said with refined grace, “Dr. Luo, thank you for all your hard work on our behalf these past days.”

Adjusting his glasses calmly, the psychiatrist replied, “I’m just doing my job. Payment and service are clear—no need for thanks, Young Master Zhou.”

The second persona smiled faintly, then turned to the beautiful young man. The psychiatrist noticed how much softer the young man’s gaze became—filled with tenderness—as their hands interlaced, fingers entwining.

Sigh… must I be force-fed this kind of affection?

Let’s get this over with quickly.

Thankfully, the second persona was cooperative and agreed to compromise. Otherwise, the primary persona would’ve had no way to take back the reins.

    Whew.

The psychiatrist let out a breath of relief. With the final payment received, he left in good spirits. In a world growing ever stranger, more high-paying and secure jobs like this from families like the Zhous would be most welcome!

    02. Taking Over

    Although… well…

Zhou Langxing knew, as long as Zhou Shurong hadn’t completely vanished, this was already the best possible outcome.

Zhou Langxing was Zhou Shurong. Zhou Shurong was Zhou Langxing.

In other words—ahem—he was technically Qin Yan’s boyfriend too.

Beneath all the bluster and frustration, he secretly felt a little smug.

The night Zhou Shurong agreed to step back, Zhou Langxing had been nervous about how to interact with Qin Yan. But to his disappointment—Qin Yan wouldn’t even open the door.

Well, fine. Qin Yan needed time to adjust.

As months passed, Qin Yan started allowing small displays of affection.

Holding hands, pinching cheeks, toying with earlobes… little intimate gestures like these weren’t rejected. Qin Yan let him do as he pleased.

After another long while, Zhou Langxing was allowed into the bedroom at night. Though for now, it was just to lie under the covers and chat.

Two years passed. Zhou Langxing finally had his chance to shine!

Oddly reserved when it came to romance, he would always ask before making a move. Even when he wanted to hold Qin Yan’s hand, he’d check first. In bed, right before taking the final step, he would ask with restrained patience:

“Ah Yan, can I go in?”

    And when Qin Yan nodded—

He was so excited he blacked out.

Ah—turns out Zhou Shurong, equally excited, had hijacked control in that moment.

    03. The Rookie Guide

During the time they were working things out, Brother Wu from the Observation Society visited multiple times, trying to recruit Zhou Langxing and Zhou Shurong to join the team.

They had no time for it then, but after resolving their relationship, they finally considered their careers.

    And agreed.

Brother Wu was thrilled—another pair of talented recruits under his wing!

At that time, they all firmly believed:

    The future would be bright.
