    Extra 6  Rose Candle

Yan Anqing’s tablet ran out of battery. He looked at the bedside table, there was no charging cable in the socket. Maybe Chu Baiyan had put it away in the drawer.

He opened the drawer and searched inside. He didn’t find the charging cable, but he did find two rose-shaped candles.

He took them out. One was wine-red with gold dust, and the other was icy blue. They didn’t have boxes, but both were finely made.

Yan Anqing set aside his search for the cable and studied the candles carefully. He guessed they were a gift from Chu Baiyan. He sniffed one, it had a faint fragrance. They might be scented candles.

He put the blue rose candle on the bedside table, picked up the wine-red one, and went out wearing slippers. Neither of them smoked, so there was no lighter in the house, but that didn’t stop him.

He went to the kitchen and turned on the gas stove. He held the candlewick near the flame, and soon the wick was lit.

Holding the candle in his hands, he came out and lowered his head to smell the scent. The bathroom door suddenly opened.

Yan Anqing got startled when Chu Baiyan stepped out after a shower. His hand shook, and a small pool of melted wax spilled from the rose’s center.

“Candle—” Chu Baiyan opened his mouth, but it was too late. The melted wax had already dripped onto Yan Anqing’s fingers.

He was about to cry out, but when the wax touched his skin, the sound got stuck in his throat. The pain he expected never came. The wax wasn’t hot. He was surprised. When he was a child, a birthday candle had burned his finger red.

To test it, Yan Anqing carefully poured a bit onto the back of his hand and found in amazement that it really wasn’t hot. It was about as warm as bathwater.

“This isn’t hot, and it smells nice. Is it an aromatherapy candle you gave me?” Yan Anqing’s attention was completely fixed on the candle. After confirming that the wax didn’t burn, he couldn’t help letting more drip onto his wrist, playing with it.

The wine-red wax with gold dust flowed down his pale arm and slowly solidified. His body was still warm from the bath, and the heat inside him rose even more. Chu Baiyan’s throat tightened as he explained, “It’s a low-temperature candle. It came as a gift with the lubricant. I just put them in the drawer.”

When he first opened the box, Chu Baiyan had thought the candles were useless since the power rarely went out at home. Now he realized they weren’t completely without use.

The wax that had hardened on the back of Yan Anqing’s hand came off easily when he moved his fingers. Yan Anqing peeled it away and walked toward the bedroom while showing Chu Baiyan how the wax could run down the back of his hand. It wasn’t enough for him to try alone, so he took Chu Baiyan’s hand and let a few drops fall onto it too.

“It’s warm, right? It feels ticklish when it lands on the skin?”

“Baby, do you want to know what it feels like when it drips on your body?” Chu Baiyan closed the bedroom door.

“I want to.” Yan Anqing tried to let some drip on himself, but the angle was wrong. The wax missed and fell onto his thigh. The pale skin instantly showed a few scattered drops of melted wax.

“Lie down. I’ll do it.” Chu Baiyan took the candle from his hand.

Only the bedside lamp was on in the room. The flame flickered inside the rose’s center. Chu Baiyan tilted the candle slightly, and the wine-red wax dropped onto Yan Anqing’s chest. The gold-dusted wax solidified quickly, like dark roses blooming in the night.

“How does it feel?” His voice was husky as he looked down at Yan Anqing.

“It tickles.” The chest felt more sensitive to heat than the arm. The wax felt hotter there and made him itch more.

Chu Baiyan sat by the bed. The wax flowed down from Yan Anqing’s collarbone, then dripped onto his lower abdomen. Chu Baiyan’s fingertip brushed lightly across it, spreading the warm wax to other places.

The wax wasn’t hot, but its gentle heat pulled all his focus to where it touched. Chu Baiyan’s fingers were long and defined. At that moment, they looked like brushes dipped in wine-red paint, and Yan Anqing’s skin was the canvas.

Yan Anqing couldn’t describe the feeling. Each drop of wax sent a current through him, making his body tremble and tingle as if tiny sparks ran inside him. Chu Baiyan’s touch made that sensation spread even wider. There were no kisses or caresses, yet his body reacted. He looked at Chu Baiyan and saw that his reaction was even stronger.

“Mm…” When another drop fell on his chest, a moan slipped from his lips before he could hold it back.

“Feels that good?” Chu Baiyan moved the candle closer and let more drops fall on the other side. The sound of soft moans filled the air.

When he peeled away the hardened wax layer by layer, it brought another kind of stimulation. Yan Anqing’s body trembled again. When all the wax shells were gone, he felt as if the warmth had soaked into his skin, his whole body wrapped tightly in heat.

“Baby, let’s try your back.” Chu Baiyan’s eyes were darker now. He seemed even more interested in the candle than Yan Anqing was.

Yan Anqing turned over and lay on his stomach. He thought it might feel better on his back than his chest. When the wax streamed down, each drop made him let out a muffled sound. His body shook, and he hardened even more.

The wax left beautiful marks across his back like branches, with round drops decorating them like blossoms.

Neither candle was wasted. The icy blue wax looked coldly beautiful as it ran down Yan Anqing’s body. The next day, Chu Baiyan went online and ordered ten more low-temperature candles.
