After barely surviving the catastrophic appearance of the first Gate, South Korea is in desperate need of superhumans. Into this fray is dispatched Heisha, an ethnic Korean with formidable abilities, living as a C-class Guide to keep his true power a secret. For over a year, he’s been relegated to a reserve role, stationed behind the front lines of the Gates.

Then, fatefully, a berserking Esper appears before him: Park Kang-woo, the nation’s only S-class Esper. He is known for recklessly charging into battle, seemingly with a death wish. Heisha recognizes him immediately as the man he’s been drawn to and, sensing an incredibly high matching rate between them, decides to become his pair. But as he dives into the chaotic and dangerous world of S-class Espers, he can’t help but wonder: is he really ready for what’s to come?

“You’re that guy from the reservoir.”

Heisha had charged blindly into the Gate to save a man who seemed intent on dying, but instead, he got caught.

“You really are a sea otter.”
