TSBDRA 77: Yan Yushan, I Think I’m Going Into Labor
by starlightxelThe news of Yan Yushan and Xu Xishuang getting married caught everyone completely off guard. Even the celebrities who had witnessed the proposal firsthand hadn’t expected them to move so fast—proposing one day, getting the marriage certificate the next.
After the initial shock, netizens dove into lively discussion.
【Aaaah congratulations! Wishing you a lifetime of love, happiness, and never being apart. Happy wedding day!】
【Why didn’t anyone say “may you have children soon”? (dog head emoji)】
【If I’m not mistaken… It hasn’t even been a month since they went public with their relationship, right? Ughhh】
【Brother Yan and baby Shuang finally got their happy ending, I’m so happy! You two better take good care of each other!】
Most of the comments were filled with blessings, and any negative ones were quickly drowned out. Not long after Yan Yushan and Xu Xishuang posted on Weibo, the regular and guest cast members from the travel show also sent their congratulations. A few other celebrities, whether genuinely supportive or just joining in the buzz, left well wishes in the comments too. The whole scene was abuzz with joy.
Yan Yushan and Xu Xishuang only replied to thank a few close friends. As Xu Xishuang watched the flood of activity online and recalled how things had gone in the original story, he wondered to himself—did this count as being blessed by the entire entertainment industry?
Some people hadn’t seen the announcement about Xu Xishuang and Yan Yushan going public, so when news of their marriage dropped, they couldn’t understand why things were moving so fast. Once they learned that the two had grown close during the variety show A Trip on a Whim, they immediately went to watch it.
And then they were hit with such a sugar rush from the way Yan Yushan and Xu Xishuang interacted that it nearly gave them cavities. Suddenly, it all made sense. Why wouldn’t two people with such obvious affection for each other get married so soon? It felt completely natural.
On the other side, Fei Yuan was staring at the skyrocketing views of A Trip on a Whim, along with a flood of fan edits and remixes, so excited he nearly passed out. Even when netizens joked that his travel show looked more like a romance show, he didn’t care at all—results were results, and the influence was undeniable.
Fei Yuan had never expected the variety show he filmed to become a breakout hit. To be honest, all he’d wanted in the beginning was to ride a wave of traffic and make some easy clicks. Now, clutching his phone in excitement, he made up his mind—when Yan Yushan and Xu Xishuang held their wedding, he was definitely going to give them a big red envelope as a wedding gift to properly thank the two people who had turned his show into a massive success!
As for Xu Xishuang—now at the center of the spotlight—he was beginning to feel genuinely nervous. Because right now, he was on his way to meet Yan Yushan’s parents.
He temporarily turned off his phone, looked out the car window, and tried to use the passing scenery to calm his nerves.
Meeting the parents was something Xu Xishuang had brought up himself. His and Yan Yushan’s marriage had been a bit of a “shoot first, report later” situation—with a fair bit of impulse involved. The day after Yan Yushan proposed, they brought their household registration books and went straight to the civil affairs bureau to register their marriage.
Xu Xishuang was already in the late stages of pregnancy, and planning a wedding would take too much effort and energy, not to mention the pressure of hosting guests. So Yan Yushan decided to postpone the ceremony for now. First, they would visit his parents, and after that, Xu Xishuang would check into the hospital under Dr. Xu’s care and stay there until it was time for the C-section.
After getting their marriage certificate, Xu Xishuang hadn’t really felt much of anything. It wasn’t until this moment—when he followed Yan Yushan into the Yan family’s villa and saw Father and Mother Yan sitting on the sofa waiting for them, along with Yan Jingmo, whom he’d met once before—that he finally felt a sense of belonging.
The thought hit him, he really had become part of Yan Yushan’s family.
The moment Yan Yushan and Xu Xishuang walked in, the other three members of the Yan family immediately stood up. Xu Xishuang had just opened his mouth to say “Hello” when Mother Yan rushed forward and grabbed his hand.
“Shuangshuang, you’ve really been through so much,” she said, eyes already red. “We know everything now. Pregnancy isn’t easy, is it? When I was carrying my own child, I threw up so much I thought I’d die. I almost didn’t want to go through with it. Has Yan Yushan been taking care of you? With that temper of his, are you even able to deal with him?”
Xu Xishuang froze for several seconds before replying, “It hasn’t been bad, there’s not much morning sickness. Yan Yushan’s been really good to me, truly… Mom, don’t worry.”
Mother Yan nearly teared up at that one word—“Mom.” She quickly pulled Xu Xishuang to the sofa and sat him down, asking about the usual symptoms. Xu Xishuang answered each question one by one.
Yan Yushan’s care and gentleness had been thorough in every way. Sometimes Xu Xishuang would think he probably wouldn’t meet another person in this life who could love and take care of him the way Yan Yushan did.
With Xu Xishuang’s permission, Yan Yushan had told the Yan family about the pregnancy the night before. At first, their reaction was disbelief. But knowing Yan Yushan, they also knew he would never joke about something like this. After a moment of confusion and internal conflict, they received the medical reports Yan Yushan had sent and were utterly floored.
After triple-confirming with Yan Yushan that it was all real, that Xu Xishuang really was pregnant with his child, and that the due date was only a month away, each member of the Yan family reacted very differently.
Father Yan had started by scolding Yan Yushan harshly, demanding to know how he could have been so careless—falling into someone else’s trap was one thing, but dragging Xu Xishuang into it as well? If not for Xu Xishuang being generous and genuinely in love with him, how could this mess have ever been resolved? And if something were to happen to Xu Xishuang, wouldn’t they owe him two lives?
Yan Jingmo hadn’t expected there was still something being hidden, but he could understand it. He knew his younger brother truly loved Xu Xishuang, so he focused on calming their father down. The two of them ended up outside by the window, smoking in silence for most of the night.
Inside, Mother Yan was going through the medical reports while crying for half the night. Her heart ached for Xu Xishuang. She felt that what Yan Yushan had done wasn’t right, but at the same time, she was relieved the two of them had become a couple—otherwise, they would’ve owed Xu Xishuang far too much.
So when Xu Xishuang came over today, all three members of the Yan family treated him like a son or younger brother. Even Father Yan, who was always strict with Yan Yushan, wore a kind expression when talking to Xu Xishuang. He asked a few questions, then casually tried to give him several properties. The gesture was so grand that, if Xu Xishuang hadn’t already known he’d been accepted into the family, he might’ve thought Father Yan was trying to throw money at him to make him leave Yan Yushan.
When Mother Yan found out that Xu Xishuang had no family and had struggled with health issues in the past—and on top of that, looked so lovely—her heart ached for him even more. She turned to Yan Yushan with nothing but criticism, her tone sharp and scolding.
Yan Yushan didn’t mind at all. Having his family adore Xu Xishuang was exactly what he’d hoped for. This situation couldn’t be better. Xu Xishuang wouldn’t suffer a single grievance and would have new family members who genuinely loved him.
After dinner, Mother Yan was reluctant to let Xu Xishuang leave. She wanted him to stay the night, to chat more—she’d never met a child so lovable. But she also knew that his health came first, so with great reluctance, she sent Yan Yushan and Xu Xishuang off, reminding them to follow the doctor’s instructions and check into the hospital early as planned.
Once in the car, Xu Xishuang held the three thick red envelopes in his hands—gifted as part of the “name change” tradition—and gave them a little squeeze. He couldn’t help but feel that the visit had gone incredibly, almost unbelievably, smoothly.
As of today, he had gained another set of parents, and a brother. He had a new family now. The feeling was strange but wonderful. He kept running his fingers over the envelopes, a soft smile on his lips the entire time.
Seeing that smile, Yan Yushan couldn’t help but smile too. He reached up to pull down the car’s privacy screen, then leaned over and kissed Xu Xishuang for a long time—only letting go when Xu Xishuang’s cheeks had gone completely red.
…
For Xu Xishuang, marriage didn’t seem to bring any major changes between him and Yan Yushan—except now, Yan Yushan was even more brazen, taking advantage of him both verbally and physically without the slightest guilt.
Their way of addressing each other also changed after tying the knot. Yan Yushan no longer called him “Teacher Xu.” After Xu Xishuang firmly rejected the term “wifey,” Yan Yushan smoothly switched to calling him “hubby” instead—leaving Xu Xishuang blushing for a solid two hours before he could calm down.
In the end, Yan Yushan settled on calling him “Shuangshuang” and “baby,” shamelessly stealing the nicknames fans had come up with. Xu Xishuang stared at him, lips pressed together, then finally whispered a soft “hubby.”
Yan Yushan: …
If it weren’t for the fact that Xu Xishuang was in the late stages of pregnancy, Yan Yushan seriously doubted he would be able to hold himself back. He would definitely drag Xu Xishuang off to do something.
But that light, sweet atmosphere didn’t last long. Very quickly, Yan Yushan began to grow restless.
Because of Xu Xishuang’s unique physical condition, a standard surgery wasn’t an option. So Professor Fred took the lead, teaming up with his colleagues and Dr. Xu to brainstorm multiple surgical plans. They even brought in Yan Yushan to get his input.
As Yan Yushan listened to the three doctors discuss the extremely low success rates and the possible consequences of failure, he felt like his heart was being torn apart. He couldn’t sleep at night, plagued by nightmares where he sat outside the operating room, waiting—only to be handed Xu Xishuang’s death certificate.
He never let Xu Xishuang know any of this. Every time he visited the hospital room, he made a conscious effort to stay upbeat and composed, not wanting Xu Xishuang to worry. But even so, Xu Xishuang could tell something was wrong—from the dark circles under his eyes, and the exhaustion in his gaze.
Xu Xishuang wanted to comfort Yan Yushan, but didn’t know how to start. After all, he understood better than anyone just how high the risk of death was. In the original book, he hadn’t survived the surgery—only the child had.
With a little over two weeks left until the due date, Xu Xishuang looked at the now noticeably thinner Yan Yushan and felt an overwhelming ache in his chest. He wanted to find the right moment to have a proper conversation with him.
That moment came sooner than expected.
That day, Yan Yushan received a call from an unfamiliar number. He had a private phone number that only a few people knew, so he stared at the screen for a few seconds before declining the call. Not long after, the phone rang again, relentless.
Frowning, Yan Yushan finally answered.
“Hello, Mr. Yan. I’m an employee of ‘Final Wish Fulfillment Services Co., Ltd.,’” the voice on the other end said politely—yet what they said next hit Yan Yushan like a sledgehammer. “The late Mr. Xu Xishuang left a letter addressed to you, which he specifically requested be delivered to your residence. I’m currently at your front door, but someone named Mr. Wang told me you weren’t home.”
The caller asked, “Should I leave the letter with Mr. Wang, or continue trying to deliver it directly to you?”
For several seconds, Yan Yushan’s mind went completely blank.
He was struck by a terrifying illusion—that Xu Xishuang really had already passed away, just as the person on the phone said. That all the anxiety he had been feeling these past few days hadn’t been worry over a future possibility, but denial of a reality that had already happened. It was a delusion brought on by grief.
It wasn’t until the phone slipped from his hand and hit the ground with a loud crack—leaving several fractures across the screen—that Yan Yushan snapped out of it. He bent down to pick up the phone, realizing his hands were shaking uncontrollably.
On the other end, the staff member remained calm, clearly used to reactions like this. He had seen plenty of people break down sobbing or screaming when receiving a loved one’s final belongings. Compared to that, Mr. Yan’s silence was almost a relief. So he waited patiently for an answer.
During that silence, Yan Yushan clenched the phone tightly and strode quickly back to Xu Xishuang’s hospital room. He flung the door open and nearly collapsed at the bedside, grabbing Xu Xishuang’s hand.
Warm. Soft.
Xu Xishuang was startled. “What’s wrong?”
Hearing his voice, Yan Yushan suddenly felt all the strength drain out of him. He slumped slightly, shoulders loosening.
It wasn’t a hallucination.
Yan Yushan slowly let go of his hand. “Nothing, I just needed to grab something downstairs.”
He braced himself on the edge of the bed and stood up, slightly unsteady, then walked out of the room. Holding up his phone, he gave the staff member on the other end an address, voice hoarse, “Send it over.”
A little over ten minutes later, Yan Yushan received a small suitcase.
Even though he wore a hat and a mask that covered most of his face, the staff member delivering the item couldn’t help but glance at him a few extra times. He had the nagging feeling he had seen this man somewhere before… and the name of the deceased—Xu Xishuang—was identical to that of the actor Xu Xishuang…
Yan Yushan didn’t return upstairs. Instead, he walked into the small garden outside the hospital, took a deep breath, and opened the suitcase. Inside was a single, thin envelope.
When he unfolded the letter and read the contents, his expression froze in a mix of shock and confusion. He stared blankly at the words on the page, completely dazed.
At that exact moment, Xu Xishuang received a call from Final Wish Fulfillment Services Co., Ltd.
The person on the other end sounded panicked. “We’re so sorry, Mr. Xu. There was a glitch in our system, and you were mistakenly categorized as a deceased client. The items you left with us have already been delivered. We deeply apologize!”
“According to our delivery records… the belongings you entrusted to us have just been handed over to that gentleman…”
He never heard the rest of the call.
The door to his hospital room was suddenly thrown open with a loud bang. Startled, Xu Xishuang’s hand jerked, accidentally ending the call. He turned quickly, panic rising—only to see Yan Yushan standing there, expression dark, holding a very familiar envelope in his hand.
Xu Xishuang hadn’t expected the agency to be this unreliable. They had actually delivered the farewell letter to Yan Yushan ahead of time.
The secret he had carefully hidden had been ripped open without warning. As he watched Yan Yushan walk toward him step by step, Xu Xishuang instinctively shrank back. But the next second, Yan Yushan grabbed his wrist tightly and pulled him forward, burying him in his arms.
Xu Xishuang was truly panicking.
Even though it had taken Yan Yushan less than half a cigarette’s worth of time to accept the idea that a man could carry a child, Xu Xishuang still wasn’t sure if he could handle this—this truth, this world-shattering revelation. What if, after learning he had come from another world, from inside a book, Yan Yushan couldn’t stay calm? What if he saw him as some kind of monster or alien?
What if he couldn’t love him the same way anymore?
But the way Yan Yushan held him now—tight, steady, almost desperate—silenced every doubt. Xu Xishuang rested his forehead on Yan Yushan’s shoulder, quietly waiting for him to speak.
After reading Xu Xishuang’s letter, Yan Yushan found that, surprisingly, he wasn’t as shocked as he had imagined. Instead, a quiet thought surfaced in his mind—So that’s what it was.
So that’s how Xu Xishuang had known about Tang Min’s crimes and found evidence so quickly.
So that’s why Xu Xishuang had thought he liked Chi Siyuan.
So that’s why, after falling for him, Xu Xishuang had tried to run away at first.
So that’s how Xu Xishuang had all those unexpected skills…
In truth, Yan Yushan was even more panicked than Xu Xishuang.
“Will you… leave?” he asked in a low voice.
Xu Xishuang was silent for a few seconds. “I don’t know.”
Those words hit Yan Yushan like a knife.
Even though the letter explained Xu Xishuang’s life before entering the book and even said he didn’t regret coming here, that having a second life felt like a gift—Yan Yushan still felt a deep ache on his behalf. He felt that Xu Xishuang deserved a better life, one not shaped and twisted by broken plotlines.
“I love you,” Yan Yushan whispered, pressing a kiss to Xu Xishuang’s hair. His voice was almost pleading. “I love no one else but you, Xu Xishuang. Please… don’t leave me. Okay?”
Yan Yushan didn’t get the response he was hoping for—no “I love you too,” no “I won’t leave.” Because all of a sudden, Xu Xishuang’s body became rigid.
He clutched Yan Yushan’s shirt tightly and said, “Yan Yushan… I think I’m going into labor.”
