    Chapter Index

“As long as I can do it, Master, please give me your instructions!” Finally seeing Sun Chengfeng take action, Ling Miao was overjoyed and immediately agreed. The two trusted aides behind him also nodded hurriedly, clearly frightened by today’s events and eager to get rid of the troublesome boulder.

Seeing their cooperation, Sun Chengfeng nodded in satisfaction and said, “The stone absolutely cannot be moved. What lies beneath it is too malevolent, and no one can guarantee that moving it won’t cause problems. However, we can bury it deeper. As long as this conspicuous boulder is buried in the ground and a plain-looking Mount Tai Stone is placed on top, it will effectively block people’s view, and ordinary people won’t be able to disturb the Yang Bi.”

“Is it really that simple?” Ling Miao and the others wore expressions of astonishment, clearly finding it hard to believe that such an evil object could be dealt with so easily.

Sun Chengfeng, however, put on a stern face and snorted, “If it were truly that simple, why didn’t the Taoist masters of the past handle it themselves? Of course, it’s because there are significant risks involved! While burying it, the Yang Bi must not move even a fraction. It must be wedged directly into the hollow beneath it, and we must prevent the Yin energy from escaping. One misstep, and it could lead to complete disaster.”

Ling Miao was still confused, unable to comprehend how they could bury the stone without moving it. However, the engineer standing behind him, Yue Gong, frowned and cautiously asked, “Master, would this require some civil engineering techniques? For example, controlled blasting…”

“Exactly!” Sun Chengfeng immediately praised, “Yue Gong is correct. We will indeed use directional blasting. First, we’ll dig a ring around the stone, then blast away the soil beneath it, allowing the Yang Bi to fall directly into the pit. After that, we’ll quickly bury it, place the Mount Tai Stone on top, and finish the job. Meanwhile, we’ll set up a formation around the area to ensure that the Yin energy released during the explosion doesn’t escape and harm everyone.”

He then added, “Of course, your road construction will need to slightly change direction, staying as far away from this area as possible. We’ll also set up additional formations nearby to ensure tourists don’t wander into this part of the forest. That way, everything will be fine.”

After hearing this, Ling Miao frowned, hesitated for a moment, and then said to Sun Chengfeng, “Master Sun, I need to discuss this with Director Yu and Yue Gong first to see if the plan is feasible. Please give us a moment.”

With that, he smiled apologetically at Sun Chengfeng and pulled his two trusted aides aside to discuss the plan. Sun Chengfeng didn’t pay attention to them, instead strolling over to Wei Yang and whispering, “Ah Yang, did I do well with that act?”

Wei Yang smiled and whispered back, “You were great, Oscar-worthy.”

Sun Chengfeng immediately grinned, but since the clients were still nearby, he didn’t dare to laugh too shamelessly. His face twisted for a while before he managed to regain his composed demeanor, chuckling softly, “But your idea was quite creative too. After the whole performance, Ling will definitely fall for it. Don’t you think we’re missing out by not asking for more money?”

“In this day and age, just asking for money isn’t enough,” Wei Yang scoffed. “Why not aim for stocks, dividends, or something like that? If this eco-tourism area becomes profitable, they’ll be begging us to handle risk monitoring. Back and forth, it’ll become a steady income stream.”

Sun Chengfeng’s eyes immediately lit up, and he couldn’t help but pat Wei Yang’s arm. If it weren’t for the presence of others, he would have laughed out loud three times to vent his excitement over the “My parents gave me life, but Ah Yang understands me best” feeling. Finally suppressing the surge of greed in his heart, he turned back with a calm expression and looked toward Ling Miao.

It seemed their discussion was almost over. Ling Miao noticed Master Sun’s gaze and immediately walked back, saying respectfully, “Master, Yue Gong and I have discussed it, and there shouldn’t be any problems. Including the construction and the blasting point setup, it should take less than a day to complete. When do you think we should start?”

“Only one day?” Sun Chengfeng pretended to frown. “This is a matter concerning many lives. You must prepare thoroughly.”

“No need to worry about that,” Yue Gong, who was standing nearby, quickly explained. “Our group’s precision blasting technology is quite advanced. We’ve done construction and restoration work on key protected buildings before. As long as we calculate the soil load and the blasting point correctly, there won’t be any mistakes.”

Hearing this, Sun Chengfeng nodded, stroking his beard and saying, “In that case, let’s schedule the ritual for tomorrow evening, during the transition between Yin and Yang. It’s the most suitable time for such work. Your survey must be completed before nine o’clock. The forest’s Yin energy is too strong, so it’s not advisable to stay too long. Tonight, Xiao Wei and Xiao Zhang will stay here to set up the formation. You can start digging tomorrow morning when the Yang energy is strong. This will serve as a double insurance to prevent any issues.”

“That’s perfect!” Director Ling clapped his hands. “I’ll arrange for the survey team to enter right away. Master Sun, shall we head out now?”

Without Master Sun present, these people didn’t dare to walk the mountain path alone. However, Sun Chengfeng wasn’t too keen on it either. Coughing lightly, he said to Wei Yang, “Xiao Wei, you come too. Coordinate with Director Ling’s team and bring them into the mountain later.”

Wei Yang, of course, knew what the old charlatan was thinking and didn’t refuse. He just smiled reassuringly at Zhang Xiuqi and led the group out of the mountain. True to his status as a big group’s boss, once they were out of the mountain, Ling Miao immediately regained his CEO demeanor, efficiently arranging for the survey team to enter the mountain and selecting a group of trusted workers to start the digging the next morning. Sun Chengfeng, of course, went back to rest early, while Wei Yang once again led the people and equipment into the mountain.

Watching the technicians fiddling with their machines, Zhang Xiuqi whispered, “No one would have thought of this.”

Yang Bi was an extremely heavy mineral. A boulder of this size couldn’t be lifted even by the strongest of men, let alone the fact that it was as hard as steel and impervious to both Yin and Yang energies. In ancient times, with limited resources, only the Taoist masters of old or geniuses like Sun Yunhe could have conquered this extraterrestrial object.

Yet what had cost countless lives a thousand years ago could now be solved with a few shovels and a couple of explosive charges. This was something no Taoist practitioner could have imagined—a method that was likely effective.

Wei Yang smiled. “At the end of the day, I’m just an ordinary person. My way of thinking is different from yours. Science is the primary productive force. When it comes to changing the world, its power is no less than that of Taoist magic, and perhaps even surpasses it.”

Looking at the nearly completed scenic area nearby, Zhang Xiuqi frowned. “However, there will still be risks when we activate the formation tomorrow. If we fail to block the Yin energy escaping from the cave, the consequences could be dire.”

“Brother Qi, are you confident you can block the Yin energy?” Wei Yang asked with a smile.

“Eighty percent confident,” Zhang Xiuqi answered honestly.

“Eighty percent is enough. If it’s not, I’ll give you the remaining twenty percent,” Wei Yang said, leaning in to nibble at Zhang Xiuqi’s ear. From his wrist dangled a bracelet—a rough leather strap, a metal skull, and three pale finger bones—a rebellious and somewhat tacky accessory that no one would give a second glance.

However, Zhang Xiuqi’s gaze fell on it, and he gently brushed Wei Yang’s wrist. “No need. Eighty percent is enough.”

Wei Yang smiled, leaning in again to steal a kiss under the dark shade of the trees. The spot where he stood was once where a man had been driven mad with grief, his hair turning white. Now, he was holding his lover, effortlessly prying open his lips. This wasn’t the time for such intimacy, and it might even attract unwanted attention and ruin their plans, but Wei Yang felt somewhat uncontrollable. He needed another way to confirm that he wouldn’t lose this person.

The fingers at the back of his head tightened slightly, and the tongue that had entered his mouth became more forceful, plundering the saliva and air between them. It wasn’t a long kiss, but it was certainly deep.

When their lips parted, Zhang Xiuqi reached up to ruffle Wei Yang’s hair, whispering in his ear, “We can handle this.”

Wei Yang smiled, responding in the same tone, “Yes, we can.”

    &&&

The next day, everything was ready. A two-meter-deep circular pit had been dug around the black boulder, exposing the soil around it, leaving only a pillar of dirt beneath the stone as support. At the bottom of the pit were several detonators, waiting for the right moment to be triggered. Surrounding this setup were three layers of ritual instruments: the inner layer consisted of seven layers of talismans, the middle layer was nine small yellow flags, and the outermost layer was a large formation of thirty-six copper coins, tightly enveloping the boulder.

On one side was the highly modern civil engineering setup, and on the other was the most classical of formations and talismans. The two were bizarrely fused together. Though terrified, Ling Miao still gritted his teeth and came along. Such a formation was something anyone would be curious about, and he was determined to witness Master Sun’s ritual, even if it cost him half his life.

However, Director Ling’s unexpected arrival made Sun Chengfeng inwardly groan. If Ling hadn’t come, he could have found a way to slack off, but now that the client was here, he had no choice but to roll up his sleeves and get to work. Fortunately, they had rehearsed this beforehand. Grumbling internally but maintaining a solemn expression, Sun Chengfeng took three short incense sticks from Wei Yang and respectfully inserted them into the soil in front of him. He then picked up a peach wood sword, pricked his fingertip with a sharp nail, and a drop of blood welled up. Without changing his expression, he flicked the blood onto the sword. Once everything was ready, Master Sun sat cross-legged on the ground, closing his eyes and focusing his mind.

A gentle breeze whispered, and the sky was dim. The elderly man in white sat cross-legged before the strange formation, three wisps of incense smoke rising in front of him. Everything seemed mysterious and unfathomable, making everyone hold their breath. At that moment, Sun Chengfeng suddenly opened his eyes, raised the wooden sword, and shouted, “Begin!”

With this roar, Yue Gong, standing nearby, pressed the detonation button. There was no delay. A muffled explosion came from the pit, and it was immediately visible that the soil beneath the boulder had been blasted away. The massive black boulder, weighing dozens of tons, didn’t immediately fall but hovered in the air for a moment.

In that brief moment, before the dust could even settle, a shrill scream erupted from the ground. The terrifying sound tore through the dusk, as if some monster were struggling to break free from beneath the stone. The talismans in the inner circle all burst into flames, the golden fire extinguishing in an instant. Then, the yellow flags in the middle layer trembled and snapped in unison, their tips falling to the ground before the copper coins in the outermost layer stood up, spinning like tops.

The sudden change was as swift as lightning, and in the blink of an eye, the formation was almost completely destroyed. Everyone’s faces turned pale. It was clear to all what would happen if the copper coins were flung away. Outside the formation, Sun Chengfeng was completely stunned, the peach wood sword slipping from his hand and sticking into the ground. At that moment, Zhang Xiuqi had already drawn the Suihou Sword and plunged it into the soil.

With just this action, the teetering copper coins immediately stopped. A ripple passed through the air, as if a slow-motion scene had suddenly sped up, and the Yang Bi crashed into the pit with a thunderous roar!

The scream ceased abruptly, and Wei Yang shouted, “It’s done! Quickly fill in the pit!”

With that, he rushed forward, grabbing a shovel and starting to fill the pit. The workers around them also reacted, frantically shoveling soil into the pit. In just two or three minutes, the freshly dug pit was filled again, and with it, the dark Yang Bi boulder was buried.

Once the soil was completely filled, Ling Miao, still uneasy, had a small road roller drive over it to ensure the ground was firmly packed. Then, trembling, he turned to look at Sun Chengfeng, who was still sitting in place. At this moment, Master Sun’s face was as pale as paper, his lips white, looking as if he was barely breathing. Ling Miao was startled and immediately stepped forward, asking anxiously, “Master Sun! Are you alright?!”

Sun Chengfeng’s lips trembled before he slowly spoke, “I’m fine. It’s just that maintaining the formation took a lot out of me. Thankfully, Master Zhang lent his strength…”

Standing beside him, Wei Yang couldn’t help but twitch the corner of his mouth, suppressing a hidden smile. The old man hadn’t expended any energy at all—he was just scared stiff and couldn’t even stand up. However, Wei Yang wasn’t about to expose him now. He respectfully walked over and helped the old charlatan to his feet. “Master, why don’t you rest over there? We’ll handle the placement of the Mount Tai Stone.”

“Good, good…” Sun Chengfan would never refuse. He leaned against a nearby tree, pretending to rest with his eyes closed while actually trying to calm his nerves.

Wei Yang then smiled at Ling Miao and said, “Director Ling, bring the Mount Tai Stone you prepared and place it right here. After this, there shouldn’t be any more problems.”

Ling Miao was thoroughly frightened and nodded repeatedly. “Right, right, that thing is too terrifying. We can’t let it out! We’ll have to completely reroute our construction plans! We must avoid this part of the forest…”

That was exactly what Wei Yang wanted to hear. He nodded and then glanced at the workers around them, speaking in a voice loud enough for everyone to hear, “There’s one more thing. Since this is essentially defying fate and going against the natural order, it’s important that Director Ling and everyone here keep this matter strictly confidential. If anyone leaks this, and something goes wrong, they will face heavenly retribution. We must be very careful.”

This was undoubtedly an exaggeration, but everyone present was as meek as a quail, taking every word the masters said to heart. Ling Miao also agreed repeatedly and quickly arranged for the Mount Tai Stone to be brought over.

Only then did Zhang Xiuqi walk over. His clothes were covered in dust, and there was a faint trace of blood on his hand, clearly from using his essence blood to stabilize the formation. Wei Yang frowned, carefully scanning Zhang Xiuqi’s face. Seeing no signs of distress, he relaxed and took advantage of everyone’s focus on the Mount Tai Stone to quickly grab the blood-stained finger and suck on it, removing the remaining blood with his tongue.

Zhang Xiuqi raised an eyebrow and pulled his finger back. “It’s dirty.”

“That’s why I’m disinfecting it,” Wei Yang said with a wink, as if it were the most natural thing in the world.

A faint smile appeared on Zhang Xiuqi’s usually expressionless face, like a frozen lake thawing and reflecting rippling light. Wei Yang felt a warmth in his heart and forced himself to look away to avoid doing something that would ruin the serious atmosphere. Zhang Xiuqi, on the other hand, turned his gaze to the now-compacted ground. Who would have thought that beneath it lay a miracle of the Xuanmen?

They had indeed succeeded. Perhaps it wouldn’t last forever, but it would ensure that no problems arose during their lifetimes. Could this be considered their first joint venture? Gently rubbing his now-dry finger, Zhang Xiuqi relaxed his tense shoulders and took a step closer to Wei Yang, standing side by side.

On the other side, Sun Chengfeng finally recovered and slowly got up from the ground. He shot Wei Yang a resentful look before composing himself and walking over to the gullible client. This was way too risky! Laozi isn’t doing this again! But for now… hehehe, the dividends are mine!

With a calm demeanor, Master Sun approached Ling Miao and said, “Director Ling, although the problem has been resolved, it’s not a permanent solution. We’ll need to keep an eye on it…”

Under the other man’s mix of respect and fear, the old charlatan began his spiel.
