Chapter 33 – Suspicion
by Salted FishJian Ning’s expression immediately turned unpleasant: “First, you said our Mr. Li is carrying evil energy, and now you’re ignoring the issues on the fifth floor, insisting on targeting the management. It seems Mr. Wei is a bit too interested in our company’s upper echelons, don’t you think?”
You’re really flattering yourself. If it weren’t for Brother Qi wanting to come, I wouldn’t have stepped foot in this godforsaken place. However, Wei Yang didn’t voice his thoughts. Instead, he smiled and said, “If I recall correctly, it wasn’t Mr. Jian who invited us here, was it? If you’re not confident in us, you can always ask Mr. Li to step in, and we’ll leave immediately. But…” Wei Yang glanced Jian Ning up and down, his smile lingering as a hint of mockery flashed in his eyes.
Jian Ning’s mouth twitched, and his voice rose a notch: “You think I wouldn’t dare to tell Mr. Li? I’ve seen too many of you frauds…”
Nurse Liu suddenly coughed lightly, cutting off Jian Ning’s outburst. She turned to Wei Yang and said, “Mr. Wei, I’m not sure what makes you so special, but our hospital doesn’t have any major issues. It seems some people are just putting on airs to attract attention. Should I speak to Director Li and have him reconsider?”
While others referred to Li Ke as “Mr. Li,” Nurse Liu called him “Director Li.” Wei Yang glanced at her with interest and asked, “Even if you’re carrying evil energy, it’s fine?”
“Don’t talk nonsense!” Jian Ning was truly furious, raising his voice sharply. Nurse Liu, however, merely opened her mouth slightly before pursing her lips tightly, as if suppressing her anger.
Wei Yang ignored Jian Ning, who was clearly backing her up, and instead looked straight into Nurse Liu’s eyes, saying calmly, “Believing or not is your prerogative, but I think this matter doesn’t just concern you and Mr. Li. Nurse Li and Nurse Xue are likely involved as well. What caused such a strange situation? Honestly, I’m quite curious myself.”
As soon as these words were spoken, the expressions of the two in front of him changed, with Nurse Liu’s face turning particularly grim. She clenched her teeth and turned to Jian Ning, saying, “Didn’t Director Li invite him here? Hmph, you take him to see Director Li!”
Her tone was a mix of frustration and guilt, the earlier gentleness completely gone. Jian Ning shot Wei Yang a glare: “Wait here!”
With that, he turned and left, likely to go complain. Nurse Liu also lost interest in dealing with the two and left the office with Nurse Song. Once the outsiders were gone, Wei Yang finally let out a sigh of relief and turned to the Little Celestial Master sitting beside him, asking with a wry smile, “Brother Qi, was that woman also carrying evil energy?”
Zhang Xiuqi nodded: “Heavier.”
Even heavier than the evil energy on Mr. Li. Wei Yang clicked his tongue. It was just as he had suspected. When he had held Zhang Xiuqi back earlier, he had already guessed that Nurse Liu might also have issues, otherwise she wouldn’t have triggered such a strong reaction from Brother Qi. Moreover, the way the woman had mentioned others with problems had been quite telling—it didn’t seem like she was just talking about colleagues. Combined with Jian Ning’s attitude, Wei Yang easily deduced that Nurse Liu, as well as Li and Xue, likely had some inappropriate relationship with the dashing and handsome General Manager Li.
In theory, this kind of thing was nothing out of the ordinary. With such a group of beauties around and absolute authority, turning the hospital into a personal harem wasn’t a big deal. However, while others showed no signs of evil energy, it was only General Manager Li and his “darlings” who were affected, which was worth pondering. That’s why Wei Yang had made that comment. Whether the evil was on the fifth or sixth floor wasn’t the main issue; the key was to get Mr. Li to show up and grant them more authority to investigate. After all, this kind of thing only manifested at night, and Wei Yang had no interest in staying in this haunted place until dark. If they could resolve it quickly, that would be best.
Turning to Zhang Xiuqi, Wei Yang cautiously reminded him, “Brother Qi, if you discover something later, you mustn’t act on your own. This time, we need to proceed steadily and carefully…”
However, Zhang Xiuqi didn’t seem to pay much attention to Wei Yang’s words this time. His focus had already followed Nurse Liu as she left, like a hunting dog locking onto its prey. The words of his owner seemed almost irrelevant. Wei Yang sighed in frustration. If this were a regular scam, he would have full confidence in controlling the situation. But faced with this kind of scenario, he wasn’t sure if he could keep Brother Qi in check. It was truly vexing…
“What did you say? He said Liu Qian is also carrying evil energy?” Hearing his disciple’s complaint, Li Ke furrowed his brows deeply. This wasn’t like a typical scam. Even if they were using a second-level tactic, they should have chosen the right moment. The fifth floor hadn’t been fully inspected yet, so why bring this up now?
“Not just Sister Liu, he also said Sister Li and Sister Xue might have problems too. This isn’t about identifying issues—it’s clearly that kid making wild guesses and spouting nonsense! Master, we can’t let this slide. If he’s trying to make fools of us, he should pay the price…” Without hesitation, Jian Ning poured out his grievances in front of Li Ke, his anger evident. He had been tricked by that little bastard again. Liu Qian was one of his master’s favorites. If she whispered a few words in his ear, it would be enough to make his life difficult. That scoundrel must have intentionally said those things to her!
However, Li Ke remained silent, as if considering something. After a long while, he finally said slowly, “Xiao Jian, go bring them up. I’ll ask for more details…”
“Master!” Jian Ning was anxious. “This is obviously a scam. Why are we still…”
“Enough! Just go!”
With a sharp rebuke, Jian Ning immediately quieted down and left angrily to fetch the two from downstairs. Li Ke, however, leaned back in his chair, lost in thought, his fingers lightly tapping the desk. Logically, facing such a tricky fortune-teller, he should have lost some patience. But this situation was too bizarre. There were some details he hadn’t even told his disciple, yet Wei Yang had seen through it all. In his shock, this seasoned veteran of the Pi Sect couldn’t help but feel a bit uneasy. Of course, it was better to ask for more details personally.
Before long, Jian Ning returned with a sullen expression, followed by Wei Yang and Zhang Xiuqi. Seeing them enter, Li Ke didn’t stand up but instead smiled from behind his desk: “Mr. Wei, I heard from Xiao Jian that you’ve discovered something new?”
Wei Yang nodded at him, though his smile was gone: “We’ve found some clues, but it’ll take more time to uncover the root cause. Actually, I’m more curious if there’s anything Mr. Li hasn’t told us?”
This was the real second-level tactic, but Wei Yang executed it naturally, without any hint of manipulation, as if he had already uncovered the secret. Li Ke, as a member of the Eight Minor Sects, had learned these tricks from a young age and was adept at using various methods to extract information from targets. But faced with such tactics, his expression still betrayed a hint of unease, which was enough for Wei Yang to confirm his suspicions.
Before Li Ke could speak, Wei Yang nodded: “Just as I thought. Mr. Li, have you also been feeling unwell lately?”
Li Ke remained silent for a long time before finally waving at Jian Ning: “Xiao Jian, step out for a moment. I need to discuss something with Master Wei.”
Completely taken aback by his master’s sudden change of heart, but not daring to defy him, Jian Ning clenched his teeth, shot Wei Yang a glare, and left in frustration. With no outsiders present, Li Ke sighed deeply: “Master Wei, there are some things I didn’t mention, but they’re rather private and not easy to talk about. This… for the past two months, I’ve been having some issues downstairs.”
As men, there was no need to elaborate on what “downstairs” referred to. However, for the head of a men’s hospital to discuss such matters with a feng shui master was rather absurd. Wei Yang was quite surprised. It was obvious that evil energy could harm the body, and this General Manager Li certainly wasn’t as healthy as he appeared. His statement was just the usual ploy to test the waters. But who could have guessed the problem was in that area!
Despite his surprise, Wei Yang maintained a calm and composed demeanor. He asked lightly, “The ladies clearly have signs of Yin deficiency-related evil energy. How does it manifest for you, Mr. Li?”
Li Ke’s expression turned awkward: “Mine is a bit strange. Downstairs only works when I’m at the hospital. Outside, it’s completely unresponsive… At first, I thought it was a lack of stimulation or excitement, but later I realized that wasn’t the case. Then the haunting started downstairs, and I knew something was wrong…”
Such a blow to a man’s virility was hard to talk about, and Li Ke stumbled over his words. He had been keeping mistresses at the hospital for quite some time, and things had been peaceful and enjoyable until two months ago, when suddenly, for some unknown reason, his manhood started acting up. At the hospital, it was full of vigor, but once he stepped outside, it was completely useless, even with the help of little blue pills. This had shocked him, as no matter how much he fooled around, he had to maintain peace and harmony at home. Being a son-in-law wasn’t easy, and if this couldn’t be resolved, it might raise suspicions from his wife and damage his image in front of his father-in-law! This was a major issue concerning his inheritance of the Jiao Yang Group, and he couldn’t afford to capsize here!
Despite Li Ke’s halting explanation, Wei Yang seemed to understand his predicament effortlessly. He nodded gently: “Just as I thought. There must be something sinister within the hospital causing such a strange reaction in you. Now, that thing has likely grown powerful and needs to be dealt with as soon as possible.”
After a moment of contemplation, he added, “However, that thing is hiding quite well. My senior brother and I haven’t sensed any activity yet. According to what people downstairs have said, it probably becomes active at night, causing disturbances. But if we wait until night to deal with it, the danger will naturally increase. Why don’t you think about where you and the ladies have been alone together, and we’ll start checking those places one by one.”
As he spoke, Wei Yang was also making plans in his mind. Since entering the hospital, apart from detecting the evil energy on the two of them, the Little Celestial Master hadn’t shown any other reactions. The simplest conclusion was that something was blocking the evil energy from leaking out, so only those who had been in close contact were affected. Logically, the evil energy would be more active at night, making it easier to detect the problem. But who wanted to catch a ghost in the middle of the night? It was better to investigate thoroughly now and resolve the issue as soon as possible.
This time, Li Ke didn’t dare to hide anything and laid all his cards on the table: “The operating room and meeting room on the seventh floor, the two general manager’s offices, the small meeting room, and the lounge on the sixth floor, as well as a few reception rooms on the fifth floor… ahem… they’re all possibilities…”
Holy shit, Wei Yang cursed inwardly. You’re really something, old man. You’ve practically played around on all three floors! But his expression remained serious: “In that case, we’ll check them one by one. We’ll need you to come with us.”
“What? Isn’t it enough to just send Jian Ning?” Li Ke was startled.
Wei Yang smiled faintly: “In matters like this, it’s not good for too many outsiders to know. Moreover, the evil energy on you can serve as a guide, making it easier to trace the source. Don’t worry, with my senior brother and me here, we won’t let you get hurt.”
More importantly, bringing Jian Ning along would only cause trouble. It was better to take the main person involved. If they did find something, they could show off their skills and increase their credibility. However, Wei Yang would never voice these thoughts and simply gave a dignified reason.
Li Ke was truly hesitant, but as an old hand in the game, he knew to follow the experts’ advice. Finally, he gritted his teeth: “Alright, I’ll go with you!”
That’s exactly what Wei Yang wanted to hear! He stood up and smiled at Li Ke: “Then please lead the way, Mr. Li.”
