Under the Blizzard

Do you want to know what makes a madman?
——
The interrogation lights burned into my face. I squinted past the glare and made out Qin Yuezhang’s face.
What a striking face he had. Even twisted in fury and contempt, he was stunning.
I laughed despite myself, turning the silver shackles over in my hands. “Consultant Qin, answer me this: shouldn’t a murderer’s son become a murderer himself?”
He scowled, grinding the insult out through clenched teeth: “Madman.”
——
Qin Yuezhang shoved me to my knees in front of the grave’s cold stone. The face in the black-and-white photo still wore that youthful smile, frozen as it had been in life. The gravel beneath my knees bit into my skin, yet watching the agony warring in Qin Yuezhang’s eyes pulled a laugh out of me.
“Qin Yuezhang,” I asked, “in your eyes, does anything but filth run through my veins?”
He seized my neck in a vice, crushing the breath from me as though he truly intended to end it right there. “Madman!”
——
Yes. You’re right.
A madman is exactly what I am.
So remember me. Remember me forever.
I despise everyone in equal measure.
Including my own loathsome self.
Psychologist Gong (Qin Yuezhang), driven mad by a madman × Unhinged Shou (Yan Ru), who will ruin everyone.
