by Slashh-XOAnd just like that, the feud between Pan Hao and Xu Ran was sealed.
After dumping that bucket of water, Xu Ran dropped the bucket and bolted. Only a fucking idiot would stay put. That difference in build made it clear that if they actually fought, he’d be the one on the ground, ready to be messed with.
But after a few steps, Xu Ran realized he was still butt-naked. Running around the bathhouse with his dick swinging while getting chased down. What the actual fuck was this.
Pan Hao had long legs and covered ground fast. It didn’t take many laps before he caught up. He grabbed Xu Ran by the back of the neck. His grip was so strong that if he had grabbed the front instead, Xu Ran was pretty sure he’d be dead by now.
Out of the corner of his eye, Xu Ran saw the rest of the guys in the bathhouse watching them, dumbfounded. Maybe they were wondering what kind of fucked-up kid drama they had just walked into.
“Still running? I’m gonna beat your ass bloody,” Pan Hao growled.
Xu Ran shrank his neck and shouted back, “Come on then. You got balls? Let go of me first!”
Pan Hao sneered. “Let go? In your dreams.”
Xu Ran glared back. “What are you trying to do with all these people watching?”
Someone nearby muttered, “If you’re gonna fight, take it outside.”
Pan Hao thought about it. Beating someone up in front of a crowd at their age was a little over the top. He let go.
Xu Ran took the opening and hauled ass, bare cheeks wiggling as he ran off. Pan Hao watched his back and let out a cold chuckle.
Even if you couldn’t recognize faces well, by day three of military training, Xu Ran had no trouble picking that asshole Pan Hao out of the crowd. Probably because Pan Hao was also staring right at him. The two of them mentally choreographed an entire fight scene in their heads.
Just as it got intense, the drill instructor shouted, breaking the illusion into pieces. Xu Ran returned to formation. He was seventh from the left in the second row of the boys. No wonder he hadn’t seen Pan Hao yesterday. What the hell was it with northern guys being so damn tall.
Surprisingly, the next few days passed without incident. Pan Hao didn’t pick a fight, didn’t cause trouble. Xu Ran thought it was suspicious. He figured the guy must be plotting something bigger. Every time he returned to the dorm, he would check every damn face until he was sure Pan Hao wasn’t there before falling asleep in peace.
It wasn’t that Xu Ran was scared. If this had happened back in high school, with Pan Hao messing with him like that, it wouldn’t just have been about throwing a bucket of water. But now that he had just arrived in the North, his feet hadn’t even fully settled, so he knew to hold back.
Besides, knowing when to yield and when to stand firm was a fundamental principle for any man.
Thanks to the bathhouse incident, the story spread through the dorm like wildfire. A bunch of guys came up to ask him about it. For a moment, Xu Ran thought he was suddenly popular. But the way they asked was just full of amusement. No admiration, just laughing their asses off. At first it made Xu Ran blush. After a while, he got used to it.
Military training was almost over, and Pan Hao still hadn’t done anything. Xu Ran’s initial paranoia faded into calm. Turned out the guy was just a paper tiger.
While in the cafeteria, Xu Ran saw Pan Hao walk past him. He couldn’t help but roll his eyes at him, but Pan Hao acted like he didn’t even notice. When finding a seat, Xu Ran deliberately sat across from Pan Hao. As he chatted with the people around him, he said, “You know, there’s a kind of bear that’s really big but super cowardly. It gets terrified of anything smaller than it. Hahahahaha.”
Pan Hao took two bites of his food, paused for a moment when he heard this, and Xu Ran caught the movement, but there was still no reaction from the other guy. Xu Ran’s confidence grew as he saw this.
Over the next two days, for some reason, whether intentional or not, Pan Hao was rarely in Xu Ran’s line of sight. Xu Ran, eager to provoke him, couldn’t find him anywhere, and it felt boring. He was just waiting to get through these two days until he could move to the new dorm and escape from the roommates who snored so loudly it shook the room at night.
Now, the new dorm was arranged, and he had already met one of his new roommates.
But to his surprise, it was fucking Pan Hao.
Enemies really do love fucking crossing paths.
Xu Ran sighed as he finished unpacking. The new dorm had four beds, desks tucked neatly under each bunk, with small wardrobes beside them. Everyone had their own little space. Not bad, actually.
The other two roommates hadn’t shown up yet. Xu Ran was bored out of his mind. He leaned against the desk, staring at Pan Hao’s back, and that mischievous little urge started bubbling up again.
“Hey, Pan Hao. How tall are you?” Xu Ran asked casually. He didn’t really expect a reply, but a moment later, Pan Hao said, “One ninety-five.”
Xu Ran gave a loud “oh-ho.” “What the hell do you northerners eat to grow that tall?”
Xu Ran was the type that would annoy the shit out of you once he got comfortable. A complete chatterbox with a dirty mouth. Thankfully, he had a good-looking face that made up for all the shit that came out of it.
Pan Hao didn’t even look back. “I grew up eating rice. What else? You eat shit or something?”
Xu Ran slapped the desk. “What the fuck did you just say to me?”
Pan Hao didn’t respond. Xu Ran leaned back and snorted. “You know there’s a kind of bear. Even though it’s big…”
“Shut up,” Pan Hao cut in.
Xu Ran kept going, getting more hyped by the second. He even changed the version.
“Even though it’s big, it’s a coward. Dumb as fuck too. Makes every other animal wanna bully it. Then it ends up scared of even smaller shit.”
He cracked up at his own story. Pan Hao shoved the last piece of clothing into his closet and slammed the door shut.
Xu Ran’s laughter stopped instantly.
Some people were sensitive to changes in the air. Xu Ran wasn’t exactly that sharp, but the second Pan Hao turned around and faced him, a bead of cold sweat rolled down his back. His smile twitched awkwardly. The look on his face was downright stupid.
Pan Hao had his hands in his pockets as he walked toward him. With that height and build, he didn’t even need to try. The pressure was overwhelming. Xu Ran felt like the guy’s body blocked out everything.
Still looking down at him, Pan Hao said, “Keep yapping and I’ll fuck you up.”
Xu Ran remembered the threat from the bathhouse a few days ago. But the guy hadn’t actually hit him back then, right? Just talked big. That thought gave Xu Ran a bit of courage.
“Don’t just bark if you ain’t gonna bite,” he said.
Then he added, “You know there’s a kind of bear—”
“Fuck!”
Pan Hao grabbed the back of Xu Ran’s collar like he was picking up a damn kitten, and dragged him straight toward the door. Xu Ran seemed to realize what was about to happen and started flailing his arms in protest, yelling loudly, but it was all in vain.
The door slammed into the wall and bounced back, hitting Xu Ran’s arm. He let out a loud yelp, but Pan Hao ignored it and carried him down the hall, pushing him hard against the railing.
Xu Ran’s feet lifted off the floor. His stomach pressed into the edge. They were on the fifth floor. Not that high, but falling from here would be no joke. Damn, Pan Hao was actually serious!
“Hey hey hey… wait a second, don’t do anything stupid…”
Xu Ran knew when to fold. In that moment, he was ready to drop his ass in the air and offer it up if it meant surviving. Pan Hao curled his lips into a cold smile.
Xu Ran blurted out every pleading he could think of, but Pan Hao wasn’t having any of it. Suddenly, he asked, “Do you know why we’re in the same dorm?”
Xu Ran thought to himself, How the hell would I know? And can you let me go first, damn it?
But he still forced a smile and said, “Huh? Haha, why’s that? I guess it’s fate, right?”
A coldness oozed from Pan Hao’s eyes, and Xu Ran inexplicably shuddered. He then heard Pan Hao speak in a chilling tone, “I requested it.”
