    UPDATES ON TUESDAY AND FRIDAY!
Hello! Thank you for reading and supporting ASFTB. Your comments and support are my extra motivation to update and translate a story. I appreciate it if you can comment:)

The blazing flames roared and danced wildly, towering high as they rose with the cool evening breeze. Behind Li Lingfeng, they resembled a terrifying, man-eating monster that devoured everything in its path.

Jian Chengxi sat motionless, staring at the man in front of him.

Having been pushed by Wang Zhe and crashing into the wall, the pain in his shoulder was sharp and burning, but it seemed to pale in comparison to the shock he had just experienced, leaving him numb all over.

Tears fell from his amber-like eyes, landing perfectly on Li Lingfeng’s cold fingers.

Li Lingfeng lowered his gaze, his rough fingertip brushing across Jian Chengxi’s overly delicate face. His voice was deep and hoarse. “Don’t cry.”

Jian Chengxi’s lashes trembled slightly, and he caught the scent of blood through his flaring nostrils. Realizing whose blood it was, his scattered thoughts slowly began to gather. His brain finally clicked back into place, and with that, a wave of intense nausea surged up.

He suddenly stood up, but his legs gave way, nearly causing him to fall to the ground.

Li Lingfeng was quick to catch him, but Jian Chengxi pushed him away with force.

Leaning against the wall beside him, Jian Chengxi hunched over, repeatedly gagging. “Ugh… ugh…”

After vomiting what was in his stomach, he continued dry-heaving.

His fragile body continued to tremble. Coming from a peaceful world, it was the first time Jian Chengxi had encountered a world where life was as insignificant as grass, where he saw the brutality of this era. The overwhelming shock triggered a stress response in his body.

Li Lingfeng, a man accustomed to life and death on the battlefield, furrowed his brow and stepped forward, intending to support him. “You’re not…”

Jian Chengxi flinched, taking two steps back and shaking him off, leaning heavily against the wall.

    Li Lingfeng stood still, watching.

Opposite him was his fragile yet beautiful little wife. That delicate body seemed so fragile, and just moments ago, he had been holding his lover’s hand, dreaming of fleeing together like in a past life. For that man, he had been willing to risk his life to leave him behind, yet now, Jian Chengxi wouldn’t even let him touch him.

Not far off, the flames raged like an ocean, and the tide of darkness in his heart swept over him like waves, relentless and consuming.

Li Lingfeng’s voice was cold, and with a bitter smile, he spoke, “He’s dead. Are you really that upset?”

    Jian Chengxi’s eyes widened.

    He wasn’t upset at all!

    He was terrified!

A surge of frustration swelled inside him, and before he could speak, the tears fell. Jian Chengxi could no longer hold back, his voice filled with grievance, “Why would I be upset that Wang Zhe is dead? I wasn’t even close to him.”

The pain in his back and arms was excruciating.

The physical pain, mixed with the shock, made it impossible for him to hold back his tears. All the emotions he had bottled up through the night came pouring out. “He suddenly rushed at me and forced me downstairs. I was already so scared… why did you have to be so harsh with me…”

Not far away, the crackling of flames echoed through the air.

Yet the darkness in Li Lingfeng’s heart slowly began to fade. Looking at the person before him, he lowered his voice and asked, “It wasn’t an elopement?”

Jian Chengxi didn’t catch it. “What?”

He truly hadn’t heard clearly, and just as he was about to ask again, Li Lingfeng, who had been standing steadily in the distance, suddenly rushed toward him. “Watch out!”

A shard of debris, scorched by the flames, shot out with a sharp sound. It was aimed perfectly, hurtling directly toward Jian Chengxi, who was standing by the corner of the wall.

Li Lingfeng swiftly pulled him into his arms, shielding him completely. All Jian Chengxi heard was a low grunt from the man.

The massive shard struck his shoulder, and it seemed to shatter the silver armor protecting him. A faint trace of blood could be seen, the wound looking severe.

Jian Chengxi couldn’t focus on his own fear, realizing that Li Lingfeng had been injured while protecting him. Concerned, he quickly asked, “Are you okay?”

Li Lingfeng pulled him to the side, standing him securely. With a stoic expression, he pulled the shard out of his shoulder. The sharp piece, resembling a fragment of a battleship, dripped blood as it was removed.

Jian Chengxi pressed his lips together, unable to bear it. He tiptoed, about to move closer to take a look.

Li Lingfeng’s eyes, however, betrayed no emotion. He seemed as powerful and indifferent as a monster, speaking coldly, “I’m fine.”

He tossed the shard aside without a second thought, and it hit the ground with a loud clatter.

Jian Chengxi winced just from watching, quickly protesting, “There’s no way you’re fine! Let me take a look…”

Li Lingfeng didn’t even blink, as though the injury wasn’t his at all. “On the battlefield, the ever-changing wormhole environments are far worse than this. People die every day. This kind of injury is nothing.”

Jian Chengxi’s eyes reddened, and after hearing those words, his entire body trembled, his lips quivering.

What seemed like a life-or-death matter to him was nothing more than a routine occurrence to Li Lingfeng. This man was powerful and terrifying, and in his presence, Jian Chengxi felt as small and insignificant as an ant.

Li Lingfeng’s mind, however, kept replaying those words from earlier.

    He was threatened…

    It’s not an elopement.

It was just a simple sentence, yet it seemed to calm his heart, which had been filled with so much bitterness and rage since his rebirth.

His brain kept repeating those words, and the atmosphere suddenly grew eerily quiet.

At that moment, voices could be heard not far away:

    “Help!”

    “Someone, please save me…”

    “Where’s the doctor?”

    “Is anyone there?”

Jian Chengxi snapped back to his senses. They were standing at an intersection. Not far away, the plaza was the site where two warships had collided. The plaza, surrounded by a fountain, was spared from the spreading flames, but many residents in the alley had been injured by the pirates’ flying ships and falling debris.

In the nearby alley, people were crying out in distress.

With a tired step, Jian Chengxi leaned against the wall, faced the towering flames in the distance, and walked out.

Then, he witnessed a scene he would never forget.

On the ground in the alley lay several people in pairs or small groups. Some had been struck by falling trees, others were clutching their legs, crying out in pain. The cries of children, along with the disheveled, dirt-covered faces of the people, seemed to burn into his heart as they echoed along the shattered, chaotic streets, bathed in the flickering glow of the flames.

Far above, in the distant Sky City, a grand banquet was being held, filled with song and wine.

In the dim and desolate underground city, people lived in misery, their lives as fragile as weeds, with tragedy unfolding every single day.

The rich feasted on food and wine.

While by the roadside lay the frozen bones of the poor.

Someone, dragging their family member along, finally reached the door of a medical clinic, helplessly banging on the door. “Open the door! Please, doctor, is there no one here? Please, save my brother!”

    No one responded.

Sky City was at least a twenty-minute drive from here, and the incident had only happened ten minutes ago. However, if they waited another ten minutes, many might miss the critical window for help.

Just as the person at the door was about to collapse from exhaustion, a figure suddenly rushed out.

Jian Chengxi barely managed to support the two people, gritting his teeth against the pain in his own body as he spoke, “Come inside.”

The two of them stood frozen, staring at him.

In the glow of the fire, everyone was covered in ash and dirt, but Jian Chengxi’s clothes appeared much cleaner. His face, though streaked with tears and blood, carried a look of unwavering determination. His back stood straight, and in that moment, he seemed like the purest and most radiant angel.

    Just then—

Li Lingfeng stepped inside, handing him a medical kit.

Jian Chengxi’s eyes lit up, and he looked up at him, asking, “Where did you get the medical kit?”

Li Lingfeng, towering and broad-shouldered, had several new cracks in his silver armor. Yet, his back remained straight as he replied in a low voice, “The emergency medical kit from the warship.”

It was only then that Jian Chengxi noticed the burns on the back of his hand, though he hadn’t realized when they had appeared.

For some reason, Jian Chengxi’s nose suddenly tingled, but all he heard was Li Lingfeng saying, “Use it on them first.”

    Jian Chengxi nodded firmly, “Mm!”

With the medical kit, everything became much easier. Jian Chengxi tried to open the kit, but the latch was so tight he couldn’t get it open. He struggled with it a few times but failed.

The older brother, holding his younger sibling, anxiously called out, “Can you do it or not?”

Sweat began to bead on Jian Chengxi’s forehead.

Then, a large hand, much bigger than his, reached out and easily opened the latch. Li Lingfeng cast a dark glance at the people nearby, his voice low and cold, “Why are you talking so much?”

The older brother, who had only dared to shout at the seemingly fragile Jian Chengxi, didn’t dare utter a word in front of Li Lingfeng, who looked like someone not to be trifled with.

Jian Chengxi pulled out the contents of the medical kit. Though his movements seemed a little clumsy at first, once he began handling the instruments, he moved with practiced speed and precision. He sprinkled hemostatic powder on the wound. The young boy, in excruciating pain, squeezed his eyes shut and opened his mouth in a wail, “Ah!”

    “Endure it!” Jian Chengxi urged.

His hands trembled slightly as he used the instruments to carefully remove the splinter from the wound, but his movements remained swift. He quickly cleaned the wound, then grabbed a piece of gauze from nearby to stop the bleeding. The blood even soaked into his fair hands.

“Ah…” The young boy continued to struggle in agony, and Jian Chengxi shot a stern glare at the boy’s older brother. “Come here and hold him down!”

The older brother, stunned by the glare, subconsciously obeyed the command.

While Jian Chengxi worked on the wound, Li Lingfeng was also busy. The man carried the injured people as if they were mere children, lifting and carrying them one by one, slowly bringing them all into the clinic.

Under the light, the boy’s leg was bandaged expertly.

Jian Chengxi wiped the sweat from his forehead and said, “It’s done. Take him to rest. Once the doctor returns, it’ll be fine.”

The boy, still in pain without any anesthesia, continued to wail. Through his sobs, he asked, “Are you sure it’s done? Why does my leg still hurt so much? Am I going to be crippled? Are you really a doctor? Can I trust you?”

Jian Chengxi choked on his words. In his past life, he had been a doctor, but in this life, he wasn’t. It was hard to offer any real reassurance.

    Just then—

Li Lingfeng, leaning against the doorframe, coldly glanced at the boy. “Afraid of being crippled?”

    The boy looked at him.

Li Lingfeng’s expression was blank, and he spoke slowly, “If you’re so worried, it might be better to just cut off your leg. That way, you won’t have to worry about whether it’s treated properly or not.”

    “…”

The room fell silent for a moment.

The boy took several deep breaths, and his tears only flowed more fiercely!

Jian Chengxi was both frustrated and amused. On one hand, he appreciated that Li Lingfeng had stood up for him, but on the other hand, he tried to comfort the patient. “It’s okay, it’s okay. He was just scaring you. We’re not going to chop off your leg. Don’t cry anymore. Big brother, please help your brother to the bed over there to rest.”

The older brother nodded and, as he walked away, softly muttered, “Thank you.”

Jian Chengxi smiled gently, shaking his head, signaling them to go rest.

There were still other patients in the room. Just as he was about to attend to them, the sound of aircraft overhead drew his attention. Warships appeared in the sky, and their division of labor was clear. Most of the soldiers were focused on extinguishing the fire, while a smaller group began descending from the sky to the streets, helping the injured citizens.

Soon after, the doctor arrived, hurriedly followed by assistants and nurses from other clinics, all rushing to the scene.

“I… ugh… I really didn’t expect this. Just when I got back… ugh… I had to come right away.” The doctor leaned against the doorframe, quickly putting on his white coat. “Hurry, send the severely injured to the… ugh… operating room!”

The nurses hurriedly began to move into action.

Outside, the deputy general quickly entered, cupping his fists in salute before speaking in a firm voice, “General, after receiving your orders, I immediately activated the flying warships and led the soldiers to pursue according to the route. The supplies that were being transported have been located.”

Li Lingfeng gave a slight nod. “Count them carefully. Arrange for people to assess the destroyed buildings in the city and comfort the civilians.”

“Yes, sir,” the deputy general replied.

“Also…” Li Lingfeng’s gaze darkened, his eyes growing even more somber. His voice grew colder as well. “Have the commander of the stationed troops come to see me tomorrow. I want to see what kind of person would allow such power to be in the hands of a mere military commander—letting someone slip through the cracks and steal even the keys to the supplies!”

The deputy general took a deep breath, understanding that the marshal was serious. He immediately cupped his fists and said, “I will handle it right away!”

With the soldiers’ involvement, the chaos in the underground city finally started to subside.

Li Lingfeng was speaking to his subordinates outside the door. When he turned around, he saw Jian Chengxi in the first-floor hall, assisting the nurses in helping the injured and applying first aid to stop the bleeding.

A man, clutching his arm, looked out at the warships flying overhead and grumbled, “We really are out of luck.”

The room was filled with cries of pain.

“Today, we can’t even go to Sky City. We don’t even get to claim the supplies, but we’re getting hurt because of them.” A short-haired giant, towering and dissatisfied, complained, “These soldiers are up there living in luxury, while we common folk suffer down here.”

The others murmured in agreement, joining in the quiet discontent.

The clinic had no soldiers inside, most of them were outside, which is why they dared to speak freely.

The room was filled with complaints, everyone grumbling in dissatisfaction.

    Yet at that moment—

Jian Chengxi threw the bloodstained cloth into the basin and shot a glare at the giant. “Do you even know what you’re saying?”

The giant froze, especially since just a moment ago, Jian Chengxi had been gently tending to his wounds.

Yet now, the slender and beautiful elf, hands on his hips, with a hint of anger in his eyes, spoke up, “The soldiers have risked their lives and shed blood on the black hole and the insectoids’ planets. Do you think they face constant life-threatening danger for what? It’s so that people like you can live peacefully in the underground city. They’ve been gone for three whole years!”

The giant man, stubborn as ever, retorted, “It wasn’t for nothing. They didn’t just go to fight for nothing, they were given promotions and material supplies, weren’t they?”

“You’re talking nonsense!” Jian Chengxi’s voice grew more heated, his eyes reddening, and he couldn’t even understand why he was so angry. “If they could trade the safety of their families for these three years so they could be with them, who would care about this little bit of supplies?!”

His voice rang out, strong and firm.

Outside, Li Lingfeng quietly watched him, but his mind drifted back to many years ago, when Jian Chengxi had just given birth to their child. At that time, he had dismissed Jian Chengxi as a mere commoner from the underground city, someone unworthy of being brought back to Sky City. He had urged him to join the military, considering him a useless man.

    So many years have passed…

    He… seemed to have changed.

At that moment, all the other patients in the clinic had overheard Jian Chengxi’s words, some of them visibly moved.

    Slowly, people started speaking up:

“I think what Xiao Jian said is right.”

“At the beginning, when it looked like I was about to be hit, a warship flew in and knocked the pirates away.”

“The soldiers inside that warship must have been military personnel.”

“They risked their lives to protect us.”

    “I can understand that…”

Others nodded in agreement, and the giant man’s position became awkward. He glanced at Jian Chengxi, sheepishly.

Jian Chengxi, holding the basin, was about to leave.

The giant man spoke up, “I’m sorry.”

Jian Chengxi paused for a moment, secretly letting out a sigh in his heart. He turned back, giving the giant a playful hum. “Next time you spout nonsense like that, I’ll have my husband take you to the insectoid black hole to mine coal.”

The giant man was startled, “Huh?”

Jian Chengxi couldn’t hold back his laughter, letting out a soft chuckle. “Just kidding.”

The other patients followed suit, laughing along.

The small prank seemed to lift the heavy atmosphere in the room, scattering everyone’s worries and making the mood lighter.

Jian Chengxi placed the basin aside and was about to leave when he nearly bumped into Li Lingfeng, who had just walked in. He froze, awkwardly standing still, unsure whether his little joke had been overheard.

Li Lingfeng merely gave him a brief glance. “Finished?”

There were too many injured people, and the clinic staff was overwhelmed. Jian Chengxi could only help as much as he could, and now, finally getting a moment of rest, he nodded.

Just as Jian Chengxi was about to rest—

His eyes widened. “Oh no, Xiao Chen is still upstairs!”

He quickly tried to run upstairs, but after such a long night and with his low blood sugar, the sudden rush of emotions made him dizzy. Before he could take two steps, his vision went black, and he nearly fainted.

Li Lingfeng’s quick reflexes caught him just in time.

Jian Chengxi’s head was spinning, and the pain made him feel miserable.

Li Lingfeng furrowed his brows. “I’ll go find a doctor.”

“It’s fine, it’s fine!” Jian Chengxi grabbed his hand, massaging his temples as he spoke softly. “It’s nothing serious. There are so many injured people to take care of right now, I can’t be causing trouble. It’s just low blood sugar, I’ll be fine after resting for a bit.”

On the battlefield, Li Lingfeng had seen everything, from amputations to life-threatening injuries, but for some reason, when Jian Chengxi frowned in discomfort, his heart twisted with unease.

Jian Chengxi grabbed onto him, his voice soft as he pointed upstairs. “The child…”

    Li Lingfeng frowned. “What?”

“The child is still upstairs.” Jian Chengxi’s voice trembled, and he looked as though he might cry. “He’s still in his beast phase. The doctor said children in their beast phase need companionship the most…”

Before he could finish, someone suddenly scooped him up.

Li Lingfeng’s grip was strong, and Jian Chengxi instinctively let out a small gasp, wrapping his arms around his neck. Li Lingfeng held him like one would hold a child, yet his hold was steady and firm.

Jian Chengxi looked up in surprise, but only saw Li Lingfeng’s sharp jawline. “You…”

Li Lingfeng’s voice was cold. “You can’t walk, so I’ll carry you.”

Jian Chengxi fell silent. He was, in fact, exhausted.

Being so close, he could smell the faint but undeniable scent of blood on Li Lingfeng, the coldness of his armor making him feel as if he were back at the scene of Wang Zhe’s death. All the memories flooded back to him, and he froze, his entire body tensing.

When they reached the upstairs room, Jian Chengxi opened the door to the bedroom and immediately felt a wave of relief upon seeing the little snow leopard curled up in bed, fast asleep.

Most of the time, cubs in their beast phase were in deep sleep, and the even rhythm of the little one’s breathing was steady. The snow leopard was nestled in the cloak, comforted by its Father’s spiritual energy, sleeping peacefully.

Jian Chengxi gently stroked the little snow leopard’s head, his eyes reddening. He murmured, “I’m so glad you’re okay.”

Li Lingfeng closed the curtains by the window.

Outside, the military warships continued to fly, handling the aftermath of the chaos.

Jian Chengxi froze for a moment before growing more anxious. He turned to Li Lingfeng and said, “Suisui is still at home. With all the noise here, she’s bound to have woken up. When I left, I asked Grandma Li to take care of her, but Grandma Li is already an elderly woman.”

Li Lingfeng said, “I’ve already sent soldiers to watch over the house.”

Jian Chengxi felt a little relief in his heart, but his worry soon returned. He bit his lip and finally spoke, “I still have to go back. The child is too young. If Suisui wakes up and can’t see us, she’ll be scared.”

Even though he knew he wasn’t the original owner, after six months of living with the child, he had already come to see her as his own.

Jian Chengxi walked over to the bedside, his gaze falling on the plaza that was the only route home. It had already been consumed by the raging fire. A sense of despair washed over him as he murmured, “How are we supposed to get through this…”

Li Lingfeng bent down, gently picking up Li Chen. He spoke calmly, “I’ll have someone bring a flying ship over.”

Jian Chengxi felt a surge of relief and surprise. This was the first time he felt truly thankful for Li Lingfeng’s identity. At least now, with the convenience of his position, it would be much easier to go home and check on the child!

After boarding the warship, this was Jian Chengxi’s first time stepping onto one.

The young soldier who had accompanied them wore a military uniform, saluted, and then smiled at Jian Chengxi, saying, “Hello, Madam!”

Jian Chengxi wasn’t quite used to his new identity, and could only awkwardly nod with a forced smile.

The warship moved quickly, and this was his first time being in a ship with Li Lingfeng at the helm. He had expected to feel nauseous like when riding with the doctor, but to his surprise, the ride was incredibly smooth, with not a single bump. It seemed the doctor had exaggerated a little.

Soon, the flying ship arrived at their home.

Jian Chengxi quickly got off the ship and hurried into the house, pushing the door open. He anxiously scanned the room and called out, “Suisui?”

    The house was eerily quiet.

Just as Jian Chengxi was becoming more anxious, a soft, childish voice came from upstairs. “Daddy…”

Jian Chengxi’s head snapped up, and he saw Li Sui Sui, hiding behind the cabinet, slowly coming out.

The little girl was still in her pajamas, her small face showing signs of fear. Jian Chengxi’s heart immediately shattered. He quickly ran over, exclaiming, “Suisui!”

Once he held her in his arms, he finally felt a sense of relief.

“Are you alright?” Jian Chengxi gently stroked the little girl’s head. “Were you scared?”

Li Sui Sui stood in his arms, looking surprisingly calm. She then asked, “Where did Daddy go?”

Jian Chengxi quickly explained, “Your gege was sick, so Daddy took him to the hospital tonight. Grandma Li was supposed to take care of you, right? Where is Grandma Li?”

“Oh,” Li Sui Sui replied, then added, “Grandma Li fainted from the explosion noise and is lying on the bed. I’m the one taking care of her.”

    “…”

    That was quite the surprise.

Jian Chengxi was both amused and helpless, but he also felt a sense of warmth. “Aren’t you scared, Suisui?”

Li Sui Sui puffed out her small chest, proudly saying, “I’m not like Snow White who only eats apples! I’m not scared!”

Seeing the little girl so strong, Jian Chengxi’s heart softened. He hugged her gently and said, “Our Suisui is also a princess.”

At that moment, Li Lingfeng walked in, carrying Li Chen in his arms.

Jian Chengxi quickly took his son from Li Lingfeng, saying, “I’ll take Xiao Chen upstairs to sleep.”

    Li Suisui nodded.

He turned to her and said, “Suisui, come help Daddy arrange your gege’s blanket.”

Li Suisui, also a bit concerned about her brother, immediately and obediently followed. Despite being only three years old, she acted like a little adult, understanding and not crying, as she helped her Daddy with the tasks.

When they reached upstairs, Jian Chengxi indeed found Grandma Li unconscious.

He arranged for Suisui and her brother to sleep together and then went over to check on Grandma Li. After confirming that she was just shocked and there was nothing seriously wrong, he finally let out a sigh of relief.

Li Suisui crawled into bed, and when her brother started feeling uncomfortable, she cuddled with the little snow leopard and fell asleep beside him.

Jian Chengxi tucked the blanket around Suisui and softly said, “Suisui, sleep first. Daddy will go downstairs to check the doors and windows.”

    Li Sui Sui obediently nodded.

Jian Chengxi let out a quiet sigh of relief. After going downstairs, he saw Li Lingfeng standing by the window, communicating with his subordinates. The man leaned against the window frame, the moonlight casting long shadows on his figure. His voice was deep and powerful, calmly organizing tasks, giving off an inexplicable sense of reassurance.

The moonlight poured in, and Jian Chengxi found himself staring at him absentmindedly.

He was truly scared of this man, but in this chaotic world, it was Li Lingfeng who had protected him and the child’s safety.

While he was lost in thought, Li Lingfeng had apparently finished his communication. He turned to look at him, and in a low voice, asked, “Is the child asleep?”

Jian Chengxi snapped out of his thoughts and nodded. “Mm…”

The air fell into silence once again.

The distance between the two of them felt distant, like a towering beast and a harmless little creature.

Jian Chengxi spoke softly, “Grandma Li might need to stay over at our house tonight. She’s old, and the shock caused her to faint. Suisui and her brother are sleeping together.”

    Li Lingfeng nodded. “Mm, so?”

The room was so quiet under the moonlight that even the sound of a pin dropping could be heard.

Jian Chengxi waited for a while, but finally couldn’t hold it in and said, “Our bedroom… only has one bed.”

He had wanted to say, “Are you going to find somewhere else to sleep tonight?”

    What he hadn’t expected was—

Li Lingfeng casually nodded and said, “Mm, then let’s sleep together.”

Jian Chengxi’s eyes widened in surprise. “Huh?!”

Li Lingfeng raised an eyebrow. “Is that not okay?”

Jian Chengxi was incredibly nervous. To be honest, he wished he could be as far away from Li Lingfeng as possible. However, remembering that they were still technically husband and wife, he felt it might be inappropriate to refuse. So, he forced himself to nod. “Alright, then you go take a shower first.”

    Li Lingfeng nodded. “Mm.”

As he watched Li Lingfeng walk away, Jian Chengxi finally breathed a sigh of relief. It wasn’t until he relaxed that he realized his legs were actually trembling.

Jian Chengxi could only sit on the nearby sofa, trying to catch his breath. The moment he thought of how Wang Zhe had died, it felt as though the smell of blood still lingered, and the fear in his heart seemed endless. The longer he sat there, the harder it became to bear. He valued his life dearly, and the greatest fear he had was that, one day, if the things the original owner had done, like abusing the child, were exposed…

    Would Li Lingfeng kill him?

Jian Chengxi’s heart was filled with mixed emotions, and the thought of running away crept back into his mind. He was just an ordinary person, why did he have to bear all of this? Now that the children were with Li Lingfeng, who would never let them suffer, shouldn’t he seize the chance to run before they went to Sky City? What was he waiting for?!

    Run…

    Run…

Jian Chengxi’s thoughts surged within him, and with a haze clouding his judgment, he stood up and hesitantly walked toward the door.

The system suddenly popped up:【Detected: Host’s life safety value is decreasing, current value is 29%.】

Jian Chengxi continued walking toward the door.

    【28%】

His heart pounded in his chest as he took another step.

    【27%】

    Jian Chengxi: ????

Not believing it, he continued to take two or three more steps.

    【26%】

    【25%】

Finally, the system couldn’t hold back and directly said:【Your life safety value is below 20%, warning. If your life safety value drops to 0, you may die.】

Jian Chengxi was stunned, his eyes wide. Just as he was about to speak, footsteps came from upstairs. The sound froze him in place. Even though he hadn’t turned around yet, he could feel the sharpness directed at his back.

    Then—

He slowly turned around and met a pair of dark, deep eyes.

Li Lingfeng was leaning against the railing, his gaze settling on him. His voice was steady, with a hint of coldness, as he spoke. “At this hour, where do you think you’re going?”
