Just as Jian Chengxi finally reacted, albeit a bit late, and realized what kind of outrageous words he had said.

Li Lingfeng seemed to let out a barely audible chuckle. “If Madam wants, it’s also possible without internal injuries.”

Jian Chengxi’s little face flushed, his eyes were red, and his voice still had a hint of a sob as he whispered, “I didn’t mean it that way.”

Li Lingfeng didn’t pursue the topic further.

The clothes, half fallen on the ground, were his military jacket.

Li Lingfeng bent down to pick it up and lifted his gaze to look at him. “What are you going to do with it?”

The pain in Jian Chengxi’s body eased a lot. His voice was soft. “I saw that your clothes had some loose threading, so I sewed it up a little for you.”

Li Lingfeng’s gaze seemed very sharp. It landed on the inner shirt—the heart outlined in black thread. There was still an undried drop of red blood on the heart, completely fused together.

The man’s gaze lingered for a moment longer. His voice was deep, hoarse, and magnetic. “What is this?”

Jian Chengxi felt inexplicably guilty. “I was just casually sewing, and then I accidentally pricked my finger.”

He had just finished speaking, when the child ran out of the study. Li Suisui called out, “Father!”

    Li Lingfeng nodded.

Li Suisui walked over and saw the clothes in Li Lingfeng’s hand, as well as the small pattern sewn by his daddy. The little girl’s face showed a thoughtful expression as she asked, “Is that Daddy’s love for Father?”

Li Lingfeng raised an eyebrow. “Is that so?”

Li Suisui nodded her little head. Her voice was childish and sweet as she said, “Mm, Daddy said that sewing a butterfly pattern for Suisui means he loves Suisui! Suisui likes it very much~”

So sewing patterns for others is also love.

Li Lingfeng’s dark and deep eyes focused on Jian Chengxi.

    Their gazes met.

The tall handsome man with a calm and reserved demeanor curled the corner of his lips and spoke slowly, “I like it too.”

    Jian Chengxi: “…”

    Wuwuwu.

I don’t want to live anymore!

    The next day.

    The children went to school.

Feiyun and Mrs. Rabbit really arrived as scheduled.

Jian Chengxi had already instructed the gatekeeper to allow people in, so he had prepared the fruit cans and a small dish of cut fruits early on.

When Feiyun entered the yard, she saw the dark-colored Wang Cai.

She was stunned for a moment.

The dragon cub was also a little stunned. After all, this family lived in isolation from the world, and there were almost no strangers coming to the house. It almost immediately straightened its back and watched the visitor warily.

    Until Jian Chengxi came out.

Jian Chengxi smiled and said, “Don’t be afraid, this is the dog we keep at home.”

    Wang Cai growled angrily twice.

    Stupid human.

    It’s not a dog!!

Feiyun sighed in relief, smiled, and said, “What a smart dog, it can even understand human language.”

    Wang Cai: “…”

You’re the smart one, your whole family is smart!

Mrs. Rabbit, with a timid personality, nervously said, “It looks so fierce.”

Jian Chengxi squatted down and patted the dragon cub. He said softly, “No, although it looks fierce, it’s actually very gentle.”

Mrs. Rabbit looked at Wang Cai.

    Wang Cai bared its teeth.

    Mrs. Rabbit: “…”

Does he have some misunderstanding about gentleness?

A small interlude—Jian Chengxi invited the guests inside.

He brought out the fruit cans and plates then said softly, “The time was tight and I didn’t have time to make more, please don’t mind.”

Inside the fruit cans were the fruits that had been soaked.

Feiyun looked at it and said, “Aren’t these fruits really sour after being soaked?”

Jian Chengxi smiled and said, “I specially made this using a lot of sweet fruits, then I added some sour juice squeezed from sour fruits, and soaked them together. It tastes sweet and sour, very refreshing.”

Feiyun and Mrs. Rabbit both heard of this for the first time.

Jian Chengxi opened the can and said, “You both should try it.”

Feiyun took it and cautiously took a bite. Her eyes instantly lit up. She looked at Jian Chengxi, somewhat excited, and said, “It’s delicious.”

    Jian Chengxi smiled. “Isn’t it?”

Mrs. Rabbit was also a bit excited. She covered her lips and said softly, “It’s sweet and sour, not too greasy, and it’s crunchy, very fresh to chew.”

It’s better than most of the desserts on the market.

Jian Chengxi saw that they liked it and was happy too. “Then you can take some more back with you.”

Mrs. Rabbit hesitated and said, “This fruit is really delicious. I want to take some back… let Yueyue try it too. Maybe she will like it. That child’s appetite has been poor recently, she refuses to eat and has lost some weight.”

    “…”

Jian Chengxi didn’t know what to say.

On one hand, he felt it would be better for the child to be raised by herself, but thinking about Mrs. Rabbit’s situation, he felt like saying anything was pointless.

    Forget it.

    Everyone has their own destiny.

Jian Chengxi stood up and said, “If the child has a poor appetite, eating more sour food can help with digestion. I have another bottle here with more sour fruits. You can take it back and let the child eat it along with other food.”

Mrs. Rabbit stood up and looked at Jian Chengxi.

The afternoon sunlight fell, and the person in the kitchen getting the can was slender and tall. Their profile was gentle and beautiful.

Mrs. Rabbit’s eyes turned red, deeply moved. “Mr. Jian, thank you. You are truly a good person, no wonder the Marshal cares so much for you. I… I don’t know how to repay you.”

Jian Chengxi smiled and said, “We are all parents. How could I not understand your love for your child? However, I also hope that when you love your child, you love yourself more as well.”

    He had noticed before.

Mrs. Rabbit tended to have a people-pleasing personality.

People like this always end up suffering a lot of grievances.

Jian Chengxi handed her the can and noticed the scars on her arm. He lowered his brows and eyes. “You have to love yourself first, only then will others love you.”

    Mrs. Rabbit’s hand trembled.

A tear slipped from the corner of her eye and fell onto the fruit can.

    She was an orphan.

She was chosen by Fuchs because of her beauty.

Others said she was lucky, but only she knew how unbearable Fuchs’s endless torment and violence were.

She once thought she finally had a home, but she didn’t realize it was just another hell. No one had ever cared for her, and she never expected it to come from the mouth of a stranger.

    Evening.

    The Fuchs family.

Mrs. Rabbit was getting ready in the room.

The door outside was suddenly opened, and the butler spoke, “Second Madam, Lady Lehua asks for you to come over.”

Mrs. Rabbit was stunned for a moment and said cautiously, “What’s wrong?”

Could it be because of the day she secretly went to see Yueyue. She’s going to settle the score now?

The butler only said, “The lady didn’t say, she just asked for you to come over.”

Mrs. Rabbit hesitated for a moment but still got up and went over. She arrived at the hall but didn’t see Yueyue. She only saw Lady Lehua sitting on the main seat. The woman was dressed in gold and silver, her body adorned with jewels, exuding a glamorous aura. She was of the angel race, looking sacred and noble. Her round face appeared smooth and delicate with a refined and noble look.

Lehua glanced at her and spoke, “Did you go out today?”

    Mrs. Rabbit nodded. “Mm.”

Lehua slammed the table and said in a stern voice, “You have a lot of nerve!”

Mrs. Rabbit shuddered. She didn’t have time to react before being hit on the head by a cup. She was in so much pain that she couldn’t lift her head.

Lehua said, “That fruit can is filled with those lowly things from the Underground City. You dare to give it to the young lady? Do you think having you as her mother from Underground City isn’t unlucky enough for her?”

Mrs. Rabbit’s voice carried a hint of grievance. “It’s not like that. It was given by the general’s wife. Their children are eating it too.”

    Lehua paused for a moment.

Li Lingfeng’s name is well-known. Who wouldn’t be a little afraid of it?

Not long ago, Byrne was ousted and the Fuchs family’s daughter called off the engagement. The entire imperial capital saw the joke. Without the support of the chairman, their family business also declined.

Lehua glanced at her. “You really have some ability to be able to connect with their family.”

Mrs. Rabbit hurriedly said, “No, Mr. Jian is just kind-hearted, that’s all…”

Lehua let out a cold laugh. “You call him so familiarly, yet when we asked you to deliver the gift to him, you couldn’t even do that. You couldn’t handle a small task for our family? Useless thing!”

Mrs. Rabbit’s eyes turned red, and she didn’t dare to retort.

Lehua didn’t want to be angry anymore. She glanced at her coldly and said, “Yueyue has eaten quite a bit of that. She quite likes it. It’s rare to have something she likes to eat. Go get a few more cans.”

    Mrs. Rabbit was stunned.

She went to Jian Chengxi’s house today and saw that they only had a few cans left. Fruits in winter are already a rare thing. It was Jian Chengxi’s generosity, which is why he gave some to her and Feiyun. They originally planned to eat them too. How could she have the nerve to ask for more?

Originally, Mrs. Rabbit didn’t dare to argue with Lady Lehua.

    But…

She remembered how kind Jian Chengxi had been to her today, and with a determined heart, she dared to resist for the first time. She lifted her face and said, “Madam, it’s not that I don’t want to, it’s just that the items are already gone.”

    Bang!”

The table was slapped with a loud noise.

Lehua stood up, speaking from above, looking down. “It’s just some fruit. What’s so hard about getting it? Are you deliberately going against me?”

Mrs. Rabbit hurriedly shook her head. “No, no.”

Lady Lehua let out a cold laugh. “I thought you liked children so much, but it seems it’s not the case. Well, if that’s the case, I don’t think you should see them anymore!”

The whole hall was filled with the sound of her footsteps as she walked away.

Mrs. Rabbit, standing in place, seemed to have exhausted all her strength and finally collapsed, sitting down.

Her whole body was cold and it was somewhat frightening.

Her daughter was the only hope she had for living, but now, she had lost that hope.

She usually had weak and soft eyes, but now, no more tears fell. Her hands, placed by her side, tightly curled into fists, and the determination in her eyes grew stronger.

    Mr. Jian is right.

If she keeps being weak, she won’t be able to earn anyone’s love.

    She must save herself.

    The next day.

    During the afternoon break.

Jian Chengxi was with his two children, building a house for Wang Cai in the yard.

At that moment, a sound came from outside. He looked over in surprise and found that the visitor was someone he never expected.

Lady Lehua was holding Yueyue by the hand, standing at the door. She smiled and said, “Hello, Mr. Jian.”

Jian Chengxi was stunned, not understanding what she came for.

Lady Lehua was holding something in her hand and said, “I heard that the other day at the mall, my Yueyue had some conflict with your child. I came specifically to apologize.”

It’s said that you shouldn’t strike someone who’s offering a friendly gesture.

Although Jian Chengxi subconsciously didn’t like this woman, he still had to maintain politeness.

He still walked over and opened the door.

Lady Lehua was wearing a luxurious divine outfit. She didn’t look like a guest, but more like someone coming to inspect. Her tone was somewhat condescending as she said, “Is it just you all at home?”

Jian Chengxi nodded. “The General is at the military base and will return only in the evening.”

“You don’t even have a servant?” Lady Lehua smiled sarcastically, with a tone of sarcasm. “Mr. Jian, you really must be working hard.”

Jian Chengxi caught the implication in her words and replied, “We are just living as a family. We don’t have so many complicated relationships, and we don’t have that much work to do.”

    Not like Fuchs.

A whole bunch of wives and concubines, a flourishing array of beauties.

Lady Lehua was momentarily embarrassed, and just as she was about to speak—

    “Woof!!”

Wang Cai, who had run out from somewhere, bit onto the hem of her skirt.

Lady Lehua was stunned, then screamed, “Oh my gosh! What is this ugly thing? What is this? Quick, get it away!”

Wang Cai bit tightly and wouldn’t let go.

Jian Chengxi was stunned for a moment. Seeing Lady Lehua’s flustered and ridiculous appearance, he inexplicably felt like laughing.

In the end, it was still Li Suisui who called out, “Wang Cai, come back.”

The dragon cub bit a couple more times, then reluctantly limped back.

Lady Lehua was furious and cursed, “What kind of beast is this?”

Li Suisui also lowered her head and patted the dragon cub’s head, saying, “Wang Cai, you can’t bite.”

Lady Lehua’s expression softened a little.

    Who would have known—

Li Suisui continued, “Eating unclean things will make you sick.”

    Lehua: “…”

I’m going to fight with your family.

    Fortunately, the farce didn’t continue.

Although he didn’t particularly want to see them again, Jian Chengxi still let them in.

After Lehua entered, she looked around the house and then sat down, chatting casually with Jian Chengxi.

Finally, she got to the main topic and said, “Mr. Jian, last time, our second madam came to your place, and the fruit cans she took back were quite good. Yueyue has been wanting to eat more, I wonder if…”

Jian Chengxi didn’t expect it was because of this.

Actually, he didn’t make many fruit cans.

Usually, people take the initiative to send them. He’s never seen anyone come to ask for them.

Jian Chengxi hesitated for a moment and politely declined, “To be honest, you came at an unlucky time. We’ve finished ours too. The fruit trees from last time had a very small yield, so I didn’t make much. If Yueyue really likes it, I’ll send some more when the yield is higher next year.”

It’s not that he’s being stingy.

Sending to others is one thing, but you must prioritize your own child first.

Lady Lehua’s expression darkened. “Aren’t fruits from the Underground City everywhere? Do they even have to be divided by yield?”

Jian Chengxi’s smile faded. “Since they’re everywhere, why come to me then, Madam?”

Lady Lehua choked on her words.

She tried it herself, hadn’t she? Aren’t the fruits she collected bitter and astringent, hard to swallow?

Yueyue has been insisting on eating it.

    What can she do?!

    The two were talking—

    Suddenly.

From the kitchen, Yueyue’s voice came. “Cans!”

It was the fruit cans Jian Chengxi saved for Li Suisui and Li Chen. There were only two cans left.

    Jian Chengxi’s expression changed.

    However—

Before he could get there, Li Suisui had already walked over. The little girl had two braids and a strong presence. “This is what Daddy gave to Suisui, not yours.”

Yueyue held the can and said, “I want to eat.”

Li Suisui was not to be messed with. She could share, but absolutely not with this person. Her little face became cold, and her grandmother-like gaze turned fierce. “Give it back to me.”

Yueyue’s presence was no match for Li Suisui’s.

However, she had been pampered and spoiled since she was little. How could she tolerate this kind of humiliation?

The little girl was extremely angry.

Seeing that Li Suisui was about to take it, she turned around and threw the can on the floor, smashing it into pieces, crying and saying, “I won’t give it to you!”

    Bang!”

The loud sound startled everyone in the living room.

When Jian Chengxi came over, he saw water and glass shards all over the floor, but he didn’t rush to worry about the can. Instead, he immediately pulled his daughter over. “Are you hurt?”

Li Suisui gently shook her head. “No.”

Yueyue, not far away, looked at everyone and cried loudly.

Lady Lehua was heartbroken. She pulled the child over and said, “Don’t cry, don’t cry, it’s okay.”

While comforting, she walked to the side and said, “Mr. Jian, why are your cans placed so carelessly? What if Yueyue gets hurt?”

Jian Chengxi smiled in frustration. “I think the best safety measure is to keep an eye on the child and prevent them from being careless.”

Lehua’s face tightened. She was extremely angry. No one had ever spoken to her like this. She sneered and said, “How much do these cans cost? I’ll buy them.”

Jian Chengxi said expressionlessly, “These cans are free.”

Lehua looked at him in confusion.

Jian Chengxi looked at her, the smile at the corner of his mouth had a coldness to it. “I’m just not giving it to you.”

Lehua was so angry she was about to explode!!

    Meanwhile—

The two girls seemed to be talking about something. As they talked, Yueyue stopped crying and even chatted with Li Suisui with a smile.

Lehua walked over and took the child’s hand. “Let’s go.”

Yueyue was taken away, still looking at the ground with some regret. She even seemed to want to go pick it up and eat it.

Jian Chengxi’s gaze, however, fell on his own daughter.

Li Suisui’s expression was very calm, and it even had a hint of a smile.

    This was a bit illogical.

Is my daughter really this easy-going? She’s not even angry after her can was smashed?

Or is she just too angry to think clearly?

Jian Chengxi walked over, somewhat worried. He took his daughter’s hand and said, “It’s fine, daddy will make some more in a few days, and everything will be okay. Don’t keep it in your heart, okay?”

Li Suisui’s voice was crisp as she said, “Suisui is not angry.”

A smile appeared on Jian Chengxi’s face as he said, “Really?”

    Li Suisui nodded.

Jian Chengxi felt relieved. He rubbed his daughter’s head. It seemed that under his influence, his daughter had become cheerful and generous. Where would there be any signs of a villain? She was clearly a kind little angel!

The old father felt extremely pleased!!

    Life was becoming more promising!

    The next day.

    In the evening.

Jian Chengxi was cooking in the kitchen when the general returned from outside.

The two children were not far away, watching TV.

Jian Chengxi walked over. “You’re back? Why so late today?”

Li Lingfeng hung his coat on the rack. His tall and handsome figure was particularly striking. He said softly, “Tonight, there was a banquet for Fuchs’ birthday. The emperor personally invited their family to the palace as guests, and the princess personally hosted them.”

Jian Chengxi asked with curiosity, “And then?”

Li Lingfeng said slowly, “In the princess’s palace, Fuchs’ youngest daughter took a liking to a crystal crown. It was the princess’s favorite crown.”

Jian Chengxi became interested. “Did the princess give it?”

    So generous.

“The princess’s maid of honor naturally disagreed.” Li Lingfeng walked to the nearby sink to wash his hands and said slowly, “The youngest daughter, who didn’t get what she wanted, directly smashed the crystal crown.”

Jian Chengxi nearly spit out in surprise. “What?!”

Where did she get the courage to do that?

Li Lingfeng nodded. “Later, the Fuchs family was severely reprimanded by the emperor. The youngest daughter couldn’t be punished, so they punished the adults. Lady Lehua was also punished.”

    Jian Chengxi laughed. “So ruthless.”

Li Lingfeng said softly, “Later, the emperor asked the youngest daughter who taught her to do this. She said it was the other children who told her.”

Jian Chengxi was stunned. “Other children?”

    He hadn’t processed it yet.

Li Lingfeng turned around and glanced at his daughter, either intentionally or unintentionally.

Li Suisui listened with great interest, her little face looking extremely innocent.

Jian Chengxi suddenly remembered that afternoon. He walked over in a few steps and asked in a low voice, “Did Suisui say anything to Yueyue?”

Li Suisui shook her head. “No.”

Jian Chengxi let out a sigh of relief.

    Yet unexpectedly—

Li Suisui’s little body leaned against the sofa, her little face full of innocence. Her voice was soft as she said, “Suisui just told her she was so brave for throwing it. If she didn’t throw it, Suisui wouldn’t have known she was so amazing. She scared me! From now on, whenever Suisui has fruit cans, she’ll give them to her immediately.”

So Yueyue thought she could get things by breaking things.

Jian Chengxi was stunned. He hesitated. “Then…?”

Li Suisui blinked. “She didn’t say anything else.”

Li Lingfeng stood not far away, leaning against the cabinet. He said slowly, “Fuchs’ youngest daughter was also punished. She’s currently being punished by facing the wall in the ancestral hall for a month.”

“I see.” Li Suisui’s voice was soft and gentle. Her fair and cute little face lowered, then she whispered, “She’s so pitiful. Suisui feels so sad.”

    Jian Chengxi: “…”

    That’s for sure.

She even laughed out loud from the sadness.
