He woke up at the crack of dawn. Even though he’d gone to bed at ten the night before, wishing Moonhyuk a good night early to rest up and manage his condition, he’d tossed and turned all night, tangled in random thoughts.

When he opened his eyes, it was just past 6 a.m., right in the middle of maintenance. This time, SoGod had started maintenance two hours early. Since it was a raid update, they were doing everything they could to avoid summoning the three great swords of doom: extended maintenance, emergency maintenance, and unscheduled maintenance. But users were already grumbling, annoyed by the 5 a.m. start.

Either way, maintenance wouldn’t end until 11, so Dohee tried hard to fall back asleep, but in the end, he tossed the blanket aside and got up.

It was quiet outside. Moonhyuk didn’t seem to be awake yet, so Dohee took his time heading into the shower. The whole time, it still didn’t feel real that today was Demon Hunter launch day. Or that he’d be streaming again.

He’d been prepping the stream steadily. It wasn’t hard. Honestly, the most important thing was just keeping himself grounded, making sure he didn’t get swept up or too nervous after such a long break.

He hadn’t posted any announcements about returning to stream on purpose. He figured if he just went live out of the blue on update morning, he’d get way more attention.

When he came out into the living room after his shower, he locked eyes with Moonhyuk, who was quietly on his tiptoes, pulling out a cereal bowl.

    “Uh… you’re up early?”

Moonhyuk greeted him with an awkward expression. Dohee, shaking the slightly damp hair he hadn’t finished drying so he could put on treatment, smiled.

    “Hungry?”

    “Oh, uh… a little?”

“Don’t eat cereal. Let’s have a proper meal. I bought some side dishes, let’s eat right. You won’t have time to eat properly once the raid starts.”

At those words, Moonhyuk obediently put the cereal bowl back and took out a rice bowl instead.

Good thing he’d cooked the rice the night before. Dohee took out a few side dishes, reheated some soup, and served the rice. It felt a bit too fancy for breakfast, but if there was ever a day to do it, it was today. Even Dohee, who rarely ate breakfast, sat down to join.

    “Um…”

    “Yeah?”

“We won’t be able to eat like this during the raid, right?”

Dohee burst out laughing at Moonhyuk’s glum expression. What was he supposed to do? He wasn’t even worried about the difficulty of their first raid, he was more concerned about not getting to eat. It was adorable.

“We won’t be able to have a full meal like this, but I’m going to order some stuff like kimbap and bread that we can snack on during breaks. Let’s just lay it all out next to the desk. You can drink as much of that chocolate drink you like today, too.”

    “I-I’ll just have one…”

Even now, he still quietly insisted he’d only have one. Moonhyuk always limited himself to one can a day of the chocolate drink he loved. It was silly and so very Moonhyuk that Dohee could only shrug.

    “Okay.”

Talking with Moonhyuk about what snacks to eat during the raid finally made it start to feel real, today, they were really aiming for that Demon Hunter full clear. Dohee asked first.

“Did you sleep at all, hyung?”

    “Ah… Honestly, I was too nervous… didn’t sleep well. B-But I’ve got good stamina, so I’m fine!”

No one even said anything, but he was already jumping in to defend himself. Dohee let out a dry laugh.

“I didn’t say anything. I couldn’t sleep well either. Is Daeyoung joining today?”

“Oh! I got his GameTalk ID yesterday and messaged him, he said he can sub in for all three days. Even if we clear it earlier, he said he’ll cover all three. I already let my boss know too…”

    “That’s a relief.”

He hadn’t had much of an appetite, but watching Moonhyuk eat heartily brought it back a bit. Dohee slowly sipped his soup while mentally running through the rest of his to-dos.

He needed to order snacks for the raid, prep the stream, install the new cam and test it, and set up the new lights he’d bought. The new setup would take some time. This would be his first time streaming with his face visible, he wasn’t sure how people would react.

Even while clearing the dishes, his mind was busy sorting through the checklist. It took a few more minutes before he noticed Moonhyuk sitting quietly at the table, looking completely out of it. By the time Dohee finished washing up and started making coffee, Moonhyuk hadn’t moved. He was just sitting there, silently watching Dohee. His expression was so lifeless, he looked like he could’ve been asleep with his eyes open.

Dohee waved his hand in front of Moonhyuk’s face.

    “Hyung?”

    “…Ah, yeah?”

“What are you thinking so hard about?”

    “Ah, just…”

    “Just?”

    “…Do you think I’ll do okay? I really don’t want to be a burden…”

His face looked like he was about to cry. Dohee set his cup down and walked over to Moonhyuk. He leaned in toward the seated Moonhyuk, wrapped his arms around him, and gave him a few pats on the back. Moonhyuk flinched for a moment at the sudden hug, but soon relaxed into it, and that was just too precious.

Dohee had meant to comfort him, but truthfully, he also just wanted to hold him. Slowly patting Moonhyuk’s back, he spoke.

“You’ll do great. The guild said so too yesterday, remember? You’ve improved a lot.”

    “…Yeah.”

“Don’t be too nervous. And if there’s anything you don’t know, just ask me, okay?”

    “…Okay.”

“I’ll be right next to you.”

Moonhyuk nodded against his chest. Dohee’s heart fluttered. As he pulled the tired Moonhyuk to his feet, he beamed.

“Let’s get that full clear today, hyung.”

Anyway, the important thing was this:

Whether Moonhyuk, all tense and anxious, managed to pull his weight or not, whether he sulked or not, someone had to get the full clear.

And of course, Baek Dohee had every confidence it would be him.

<New Raid: “Lost Demon Hunter” Now Open!>

Ancient ruins slumber beneath the barren earth. From within, the “Lost Demon Hunter” emits a dark aura, corrupting the land.

Pray to the gods, and light will illuminate your path.

When the Empire’s swords gather, a new age of salvation shall dawn.”
