IF LINE EXTRA 5 – Your other biological dad is Yan Yushan.

It had been almost a week since the last time he attended a banquet.

The white handkerchief that had once belonged to Yan Yushan had been cleaned by Xu Xishuang, with all the bloodstains and cream washed away, restored to its pristine whiteness. Xu Xishuang then placed it carefully into a dust-proof bag and hung it on the wall beside his desk.

During that week, Xu Xishuang received greetings from Yan Yushan every day. Their conversations were brief—mostly just casual check-ins like “Have you gotten up?” or “Have you eaten?”—twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening, as punctual as mealtimes.

Xu Xishuang didn’t quite understand what Yan Yushan was trying to do. He had considered whether Yan Yushan might be interested in him, but the conversations seemed so normal, just friendly exchanges between acquaintances.

Xu Xishuang had once had a suitor who practically wanted to leap through the screen just to greet him. He was bubbling with energy, sending dozens of messages at once without pausing, and often throwing in bold, passionate declarations in the middle of their chats. Completely unlike Yan Yushan’s calm demeanor.

Xu Xishuang couldn’t figure out why Yan Yushan was doing this. He didn’t think they could be considered friends either—after all, they had slept together once.

Perplexed, Xu Xishuang finally turned to Wen Han, who had been in a relationship before, for help. After listening to Xu Xishuang’s account, Wen Han thought for a moment and then said uncertainly, “I think he probably just… wants to be friends with you?”

What Xu Xishuang didn’t know was that asking Wen Han this question wouldn’t get him the right answer. Although Wen Han had been in a relationship before, it was a failed one. The jerk he dated had never taken the initiative to message him—pain was the only thing he got out of that relationship.

After thinking for a moment, Wen Han added, “Maybe he’s checking in on your health, making sure you’re okay? You did cough up blood in public, after all.”

“True.” Xu Xishuang’s expression softened. Maybe he was just overthinking it.

Xu Xishuang felt that Yan Yushan didn’t seem as hot-tempered or violent as the rumors said. Not only did he point out when there was cream on his face and offer him a handkerchief, but after he vomited blood, he personally took him home. Ever since then, he’d been checking in on his condition every day. He must be a very thoughtful and gentle person.

With that conclusion in mind, Xu Xishuang made up his mind. The day before school started, he called Xu Qingci into the study, held him close, and said seriously, “Xu Qingci, I have something to tell you.”

Xu Qingci tilted his head. “Is it about my other dad?”

“Yes.” Xu Xishuang took a deep breath. Holding Xu Qingci gave him the courage to say things he normally wouldn’t, to finally speak the secret he had kept buried deep inside, one he hadn’t told anyone. “Your other biological dad is… Yan Yushan.”

“That Uncle Yan from that night,” Xu Xishuang added softly.

As soon as he said it, Xu Xishuang felt an overwhelming sense of relief. Holding the chubby little Xu Qingci, he gently stroked his hair, watching the Xiao Tudou thoughtful expression, waiting for him to respond.

Xu Qingci first tried to recall what Yan Yushan looked like, then remembered what he’d said that night. He hadn’t expected that the “Uncle” he liked so much would turn out to be his real dad.

Xu Qingci felt a bit happy, and then a bit disappointed. He tried his best to hide the shift in his emotions, but he was only three years old—Xu Xishuang still noticed his sadness and felt a tug at his heart.

Xu Qingci wrapped his arms around Xu Xishuang’s neck and asked softly, “Daddy, does Father Yan know I’m his child?”

Xu Xishuang fell silent, then replied in an even gentler voice, “He will know one day.”

Xu Qingci was a smart child. A long time ago, when he realized that other kids all had a mom and a dad, he began to understand that he was different. He was clearly born from his daddy, but Daddy, Uncle Wen, and even Grandma and Grandpa all told others that he was born from a woman he didn’t know and had never met—that was supposed to be his “mom.”

At first, Xu Qingci didn’t understand and asked Daddy why. Back then, Daddy had stayed quiet for a long time before finally telling him, “Because you’re a miracle.”

“You’re a one-of-a-kind treasure in this world.” Back then, Xu Xishuang kissed Xu Qingci on the forehead. “Daddy actually can’t have children, but because you came into this world, Daddy wanted to keep his treasure, so he gave birth to you. Daddy, Grandma and Grandpa were afraid bad people would try to take you away, so they told a lie to protect you.”

After that, Xu Qingci was given a basic education in biology. He learned that men couldn’t have children, and that he was a special miracle baby—Daddy’s treasure—and that’s why he came into the world.

Daddy had gone through a lot of pain to bring him into the world.

After hearing Xu Xishuang’s answer, Xu Qingci nodded and hugged him tightly, burying his face into the side of Daddy’s neck, and said softly in his milky voice, “Mm.”

He stayed quiet for a moment, then asked in a careful, hopeful voice, “Then Daddy, will you be with Father Yan in the future? Will we be a family? Will he… like me?”

Even though Xu Qingci always acted like a little grown-up—well-behaved and thoughtful, never giving anyone trouble—in his heart, he still longed for love from the other parent he’d never met. Like any other child from a typical family, he wanted a complete home. Now that he knew who his biological father was, he was happy and nervous all at once, and a little afraid that the man might not like him.

“Of course he’ll like you. Our Xiao Tudou is so lovable, who wouldn’t like you?” Xu Xishuang smiled and kissed the chubby side of Xu Qingci’s face. “But as for the future, none of us know how things will turn out yet, so Daddy can’t promise anything right now. I’m sorry, Tudou.”

Of course, Xu Xishuang knew he could just say something comforting to make Tudou feel better. But deep down, he also understood how difficult this really was. He wasn’t sure if Yan Yushan would accept Tudou, or if Yan Yushan would be willing to start a family with him. He didn’t even know Yan Yushan’s sexual orientation yet. So he didn’t want to give Tudou any empty promises. If things didn’t turn out as beautifully as they imagined, it would be easier for them to accept—and hurt less.

“It’s okay, Daddy,” Xu Qingci said as he gave a kiss to the side of Xu Xishuang’s face. “If Father Yan doesn’t want to be with us, we’ll just find a new father.”

Xu Qingci looked at Xu Xishuang with a serious expression. “Even though I really like Father Yan, if Father Yan doesn’t like Daddy, and doesn’t like me either, then I won’t like him anymore. We’ll find someone taller, stronger, and who really loves us.”

Xu Xishuang couldn’t help but laugh. “Alright.”

“Daddy’s starting classes tomorrow, so I won’t be home much during the day. I’ll probably only be back in the evening,” Xu Xishuang told Xu Qingci. “You’re not going to kindergarten tomorrow, so do you want to go to the company with Grandpa?”

Xu Qingci’s eyes lit up, the disappointment from earlier completely gone. He nodded eagerly. “Yes!”

He was thrilled—not having to play with those kids who were always crying, screaming, or fighting, and instead getting to go to the company with Grandpa, look at ledgers, and listen in on contract discussions? That was perfect!

So the next morning, Xu Qingci happily got into Grandpa’s car and headed off to the company. Meanwhile, Xu Xishuang and his cousin Xu Lu got into the family car, where the driver took them to school.

Xu Xishuang and Xu Lu both sat in the back. Xu Lu was seated next to him, glued to her phone and letting out little squeals from time to time, muttering things like, “So handsome, too handsome. He deserves to be the number one in the entertainment industry.”

Xu Xishuang asked casually, “What are you watching?”

“I’m watching my idol’s new historical drama,” Xu Lu said enthusiastically, leaning in to show him her phone screen. “Look at my idol—Yan Yushan! The number one top in the entire entertainment industry. People call him a walking hormone machine. He’s the top A-list actor, the one who’s swept every major award. In this drama, he plays a young general.”

She kept rambling on, “Oh my god, that armor is literally glowing on him. His long-hair look is absolutely stunning. How are his features so sharp and defined? Is it even humanly possible to be this handsome? Wasn’t Nuwa being totally biased when she molded him?”

Xu Xishuang froze for a moment the second Xu Lu said the name “Yan Yushan,” then instinctively turned to look at her phone screen. When he saw the confident, dashing young general on display, he was stunned for a few more seconds. In his mind, all those titles and compliments Xu Lu had just rattled off didn’t seem exaggerated at all.

As the young general on screen galloped past on horseback, Xu Xishuang’s heart gave a subtle skip. He unconsciously pressed his lips together and then, as if trying to cover something up, looked away and shifted slightly to the side, putting more distance between himself and Xu Lu.

    Xu Lu: ?

Caught up in the drama, Xu Lu was puzzled for a second, then figured her cold and elegant cousin probably just wasn’t into historical dramas. She didn’t think too much of it, pulled her screen back, and went right back to watching—completely absorbed. Every now and then, she took a screenshot, capturing each of Yan Yushan’s knee-weakeningly handsome moments.

Xu Xishuang turned his gaze to the window and suddenly remembered that Yan Yushan hadn’t messaged him yet this morning. He hadn’t said “good morning.”

Realizing this, Xu Xishuang suddenly felt an odd sense of discomfort all over. He resisted the urge to check his phone and began questioning why he had already formed such a habit in just seven days. Why did he feel the slightest bit anxious and disappointed just because he hadn’t received a message from Yan Yushan?

He had never reacted like this when that other suitor from before didn’t message him.

What Xu Xishuang didn’t realize was that if it had been that younger admirer who didn’t text him, he would’ve just felt relieved—finally, some peace and quiet. But when it was Yan Yushan who didn’t text, he found himself feeling off-balance, his mind drifting toward their chat, tempted to open his phone and look at their conversation.

Maybe it was because he had always gotten what he wanted growing up, and because of his good looks and family background, Xu Xishuang had never been short of admirers. He had grown up with a carefree, independent personality, never including romance in his life plans, and he had never really met anyone who truly caught his eye. So when it came to these matters, he could be a little slow. If a suitor didn’t make their feelings explicitly clear, he might not even realize they liked him.

Just as Xu Xishuang was debating whether or not to take the initiative and message Yan Yushan, he heard his phone vibrate.

He immediately pulled out his phone, unlocked the screen, and saw a message from Yan Yushan right at the top. As usual, it was simple and direct: “Good morning.”

Xu Xishuang instantly relaxed. He leaned back into the soft car seat and tapped the screen lightly to reply: “It’s not morning anymore.”

Yan Yushan replied quickly: “It really isn’t. A director friend of mine asked me to make an emergency cameo, so I had to get up early and was pretty busy. I didn’t get a chance to message you until now.”

Seeing the explanation, Xu Xishuang couldn’t help but smile slightly, then looked at the next message that followed right after.

Yan Yushan: “What about you? What are you doing this morning?”

Xu Xishuang replied, “Heading to school to check in.”

Yan Yushan asked, “You’re still in grad school? Which university? What’s your major?”

Maybe realizing he was being a bit too eager, Yan Yushan immediately followed up with a sticker.

Xu Xishuang could tell that Yan Yushan didn’t usually send stickers, because the one he sent—labeled “Question”—didn’t actually mean a normal inquiry. It showed a panda man spreading his hands, looking speechless, with a string of question marks between his hands and above his head. It carried a tone of “absurd” or “unbelievable,” with a touch of dramatic sass.

Trying not to laugh, Xu Xishuang replied: “Yeah, I’m still in grad school. Law, at A University.”

Next to him, Xu Lu had just finished watching an episode of her drama. Feeling fully satisfied, she put away her phone and glanced casually to the side—only to catch a glimpse of the smile on Xu Xishuang’s face.

    Xu Lu froze, momentarily stunned.

There are many kinds of smiles. Though Xu Lu had always thought her cousin looked good no matter what kind of expression he wore, this particular smile—like winter snow melting into rippling spring water—was something she’d never seen before. She was momentarily dazed, completely captivated by his beauty.

Once she snapped out of it, Xu Lu was overcome with shock and curiosity. She was dying to know who was on the other end of that phone, capable of making her beautiful cousin smile like that. She couldn’t help blurting out, “Cousin, who are you chatting with? You look so happy.”

Only then did Xu Xishuang realize he had been smiling. He quickly reined in his expression, wrapped up the conversation with Yan Yushan by saying they would chat again at noon, and casually replied to Xu Lu, “Just a friend.”

A friend? What kind of friend could make her cousin smile like that? Xu Lu looked at him suspiciously for a few more seconds but couldn’t read anything from his face. She could only grumble to herself and turn her head away.

When they arrived at school, Xu Lu and Xu Xishuang got out of the car together. Xu Lu had already been at A University for two years and was now starting her junior year, so she was very familiar with the campus. She volunteered to take Xu Xishuang to the graduate school building to check in.

But as soon as they got out of the car, and she felt the flood of admiring gazes coming at them from all directions, Xu Lu started to panic. She instinctively shrank back behind Xu Xishuang, wanting nothing more than to flee the scene.

Standing next to a top-tier beauty really did require an incredibly strong mental fortitude. Ugh, Xu Lu told herself not to chicken out. She reached out and tugged on Xu Xishuang’s sleeve, whispering, “Cousin, let’s hurry up and go.”

This kind of situation—like being surrounded by a crowd watching a celebrity—was way too much for her to handle!

Xu Xishuang, on the other hand, was already used to this kind of attention. He nodded and quickly walked away from the central plaza with Xu Lu.

Only after his figure disappeared from sight did the crowd finally snap out of their daze. Quite a few people rushed to take out their phones and snapped a dozen pictures of Xu Xishuang’s back and side profile, then posted them on the campus forum, asking around for his name.

【Does anyone know the name of this heart-throbbingly handsome guy? Is he from our school? (picture) (picture)】

Replies came flooding in: 【This guy probably isn’t from our school, right? There’s no way I wouldn’t have noticed someone this good-looking before!】

【Hold on, what if he’s a new student? I think he might be a new graduate student. Any sisters out there who can find out his name?】

【Before clicking the photo: Let me see how heart-throbbing he really is. After clicking: HOLY SH*T WIFE!!】

【No way, he’s my dream boyfriend! My ideal type, ahhh.】

【Wait a minute, why does he look so familiar to me? Didn’t he act in a drama before? Is he a celebrity?】

    【Actually, I feel the same…】

【OMG I found him! His name is Xu Xishuang! He only acted in one idol drama before quitting the industry. He played the devoted second male lead senior—so handsome, sob sob. His Weibo is still up, everyone go look at this hottie!!】

【Huh? He’s an actor? Then he’s probably not from our school. I was still dreaming of finding an excuse to talk to him, sob.】

【Well, not necessarily. What if he quit the industry and enrolled in our school afterwards?】

【It’s not really okay to take random photos of people like this… Even if he’s an actor, he already left the spotlight. I think OP should delete the post before it blows up.】

The post quickly blew up, attracting more and more new viewers. Within the thread, a few anonymous users left comments like “He’s not even that good-looking” and “Washed-up actors really trying to make a comeback like this?”—but those quickly got buried under waves of other replies.

A few minutes later, a new post appeared. The OP had snapped a photo of Xu Xishuang’s student ID and was screaming in all caps:

【AAAAAAAH HE’S A SENIOR! A LAW DEPARTMENT EXCHANGE STUDENT SENIOR! I’M LOSING MY MIND, HOW CAN SOMEONE BE THIS GOOD-LOOKING UGHAAAGHHH】

OP:【I got up the courage to ask—Senior Xu said he’ll be studying at our school for two years! Girls, go go go! He might look cold, but he’s actually super gentle AAAAAH】

OP:【Okay sisters, cancel all plans—his orientation isn’t our gender (storm of tears)】

【?From head-over-heels to heartbreak in one second flat?? I was about to shoot my shot and OP slammed the brakes??】

【Why?? Why do all the gorgeous guys like guys, sob sob】

【Uhh, this feels kind of personal though? Is that really okay to say out loud? Seems a bit disrespectful…】

OP:【Sorry sorry! I got too excited. I’m deleting the post right now】

Although the original poster deleted the thread quickly, many people had already taken screenshots. Xu Xishuang’s identity and sexual orientation spread rapidly, and the rumors grew wilder. Even old photos from idol dramas he had acted in resurfaced.

Xu Lu only found out about it when her roommate messaged her, asking if the person next to Xu Xishuang was her.

Xu Lu was stunned and hurried to explain her relationship with Xu Xishuang. As she checked the screenshots her roommate had sent, she followed Xu Xishuang out of the grad building.

Because it was the first day of the new semester, the campus wasn’t just full of students—there were also many people from outside. This time, Xu Xishuang and Xu Lu attracted even more attention than before, accompanied by hushed whispers and some rather rude photos being taken.

Xu Xishuang frowned, and Xu Lu wasn’t happy either. She glared back and made an “X” gesture with her hands, signaling those people to stop taking pictures.

However, Xu Xishuang’s photos, along with the forum screenshots, were still posted to Weibo. It started with an account that regularly reposted content about handsome guys from various schools. The post drew in a huge number of comments, and soon, people began digging through Xu Xishuang’s own Weibo.

Xu Xishuang had always had eye-catching looks, and now that he was trending, promotional accounts began sharing his posts too. With clickbait like “former actor leaving the industry,” “national campus heartthrob,” and “top grad student,” more and more people flocked in. The topic was already brushing the edge of the trending list and still climbing.

Meanwhile, on another set, the actor filming with Yan Yushan messed up another take, causing the atmosphere on set to freeze a little. Everyone had heard the rumors about Yan Yushan’s temper. They glanced nervously at his unpleasant expression, silently praying for the actor and hoping Yan Yushan would go easy on him.

Meanwhile, on the other side, the male actor playing opposite Yan Yushan had another NG, and the atmosphere on set became slightly tense. Everyone had heard the rumors about Yan Yushan’s temper, and as they looked at his less-than-pleased expression, they silently prayed for the actor, hoping Yan Yushan would go easy on him.

The male actor was on the verge of tears. He wanted to wail.

Who can handle acting opposite Yan Yushan?! His presence is seriously overwhelming. He’s playing a guard who’s supposed to kill me, and I actually feel like he’s really going to cut me down with a sword. Isn’t it normal that I’m too scared to say my lines? At least give me a moment to catch my breath!

Cheng Tianwen, who had invited Yan Yushan to make a guest appearance as a favor, quickly stepped in to smooth things over. “Uh, let’s all take a short break, okay? Take a breather, reset, and we’ll try again.”

Cheng Tianwen gave the actor a look, and he immediately understood, dashing away from Yan Yushan’s presence.

Yan Yushan took the bottle of water Cheng Tianwen handed him, twisted it open, took a sip, then casually found a place to sit down. He glanced at his chat with Xu Xishuang on his phone, and his mood noticeably improved.

Yan Yushan was currently in a free period, not in Hengdian filming any leading roles—at most, he was just making a few cameos. Since shooting a drama could take months or more, and all he wanted now was to pursue Xu Xishuang, he naturally wanted to spend more time on what really mattered.

These past few days, his slow and steady “boiling frog” approach didn’t seem to be working at all. Even Yu Bai-ge had already quickly become friends with Xu Xishuang—not long ago, the two of them even arranged a trip to the manor together. Yu Bai-ge said Xu Xishuang was amazing at fishing and if it weren’t for the bucket already being full, he might have fished out the entire pond.

That night, they had a full-course fish banquet. Looking at the photos Ge Yu Bai had sent, Yan Yushan felt an itch of envy. He didn’t even know when he’d get the chance to have a meal with Xu Xishuang.

Just as Yan Yushan pressed on his screen, intending to say something to Xu Xishuang, he heard Cheng Tianwen muttering beside him, “That face and bone structure are both top-tier… I wonder if he’s interested in acting… Hm? He had acted before? Xu Xishuang, that’s a nice name.”

Hearing Xu Xishuang’s name, Yan Yushan’s typing paused. He turned and asked Cheng Tianwen, “What are you looking at?”

“I’m looking at the trending topics on Weibo,” Cheng Tianwen replied. “Check out the last one. Says a retired actor named Xu Xishuang went to A University for grad school.”

    Yan Yushan raised an eyebrow.

He tapped open the trending post and immediately saw a photo of Xu Xishuang. It was clearly taken in secret, without his permission. His expression in the picture showed a trace of impatience, and judging by the setting, it looked like A University.

Yan Yushan casually glanced at the comments, slowly furrowing his brow. He reopened the chat with Xu Xishuang: “I saw you’re trending. Has anyone been bothering you?”

Xu Xishuang was also looking at the trending page on Weibo. When he saw Yan Yushan’s message, he replied with a bit of unconscious trust and a hint of playfulness: “Yeah. They’re so annoying.”

On his way to the cafeteria, he had already been asked several times for his contact info and whether he was interested in debuting as a celebrity—it was beyond frustrating.

Yan Yushan replied quickly: “Got it.”

Xu Xishuang looked at the message, not quite sure what it meant. His cousin Xu Lu, walking beside him, was getting irritated by the constant stream of people approaching them. Annoyed, she asked, “Cousin, should we call Uncle and ask him to help take the trending topic down?”

Xu Xishuang was just about to nod when Xu Lu suddenly exclaimed in shock, “Eh? The trending post is gone! The whole hashtag’s been wiped!! What the heck, did some kind soul at Weibo finally grow a conscience? Or did the system crash? Or maybe—some celeb who paid for a spot on the trending list saw you taking their slot and knocked your post off?”

Xu Xishuang froze for a second, then lowered his head to look at the message Yan Yushan had just sent. He pressed his lips together and slowly typed out a question: “Was it you who helped take down the trending topic?”

Yan Yushan had been dying for a chance to show some affection so of course he wouldn’t let someone else take credit: “Yeah.”

Xu Xishuang’s fingers paused over the screen. Then he replied sincerely: “Thank you.”

On the other end of the screen, under Cheng Tianwen’s ghost-struck stare, Yan Yushan smiled contentedly. “No problem.”
